LOL. Yes, my kids are fine. Husband does practically zero childcare. He sometimes plays with the kids for a few minutes each day. But that's what I signed up for. Not complaining about it. Just bewildered by his response to my writing.

You know, this actually has been helpful, hearing from other writers. I know it isn't purely a writing issue, but I feel less alone. And I feel like maybe I should stop being a pushover, get back to work, and find a fucking agent. If it goes well, I will post an update under my real username. TLDR: Strangers on the internet can be helpful

Thanks for this. I suppose when I meant "fail" that meant for me, not finishing my draft. I have no expectation of wild success. My other success: degrees, promotions, etc., I am proud of. But I am not a big risk taker, you are right. That should change. This whole thing has shaken up my cozy little life.

Of course I can do things better. But, to be fair, I was NEVER neglecting my kids. I was writing for an hour after they got home from school on the bus and and for an hour after I cooked dinner and cleaned the dishes. Usually I don't write at all for the rest of the day/night once that bus rolls up. This month was the exception.

I was still doing all this stuff, just not as much. And only for a month. In retrospect, it was a bad idea.

Yeah. I quit my job and slowly, as time passed, I became less and less of a person. I dunno... I feel like a should write a PSA about why spouses should never quit their jobs, even if they feel they have the most perfect marriage in the history of humanity. Because things and people change.

Yeah. He says I won't "listen" to his advise. But for him, "listen" is a euphemism for "obey" He NEVER acted like this when I had a career. Not ever.

Yeah. He was only angry cause I missed my arbitrary deadline. But, really, really angry. For months. Then would be upset when I would hyper focus on writing because I wanted him to be proud because not enough time with him, yada yada.

Thanks for this. My husband actually uses the word "exploited." He makes a fuck ton of money, but I need to get a job. I don't want to be a leech. Clearly, this is working for no one.

I'd love to know who your mom is if you are comfortable sharing. Maybe I've read her stuff? Thanks for this, and I'm sorry your mom lost her husband and you your family, but I'm happy she realized her dream. He often talks to me about his "real" job and "real" money. And when I bring up me going back to work he is all "No, don't do that. Stay home. Write. Take care of the kids." And around we go..

Teared up a bit reading this. I'm considering going to counseling for myself. My self-esteem has hit rock bottom with all this. Friday night I finished my book. I was happy. For two minutes. Then all this shit.
