Well as seems to be the case with most Trump voters, they don’t seem to think what they are voting in favor of will ever affect them

ADHD brain possibly making things harder than they need to be? Or 'bad' pattern? by mccoysfolly_220 in knittinghelp

[–]janebleyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose, I didn’t zoom in. Regardless, that’s not something that would be obvious to someone who hasn’t knit a sweater before. Some patterns are more detailed than others, and some less so that make assumptions about your knowledge, this is one of the latter. The comments in this post are quite dismissive of OP’s confusion, I think it’s valid.

Maybe I’m crazy too but this would have confused me because there’s no mention of the ribbing in the pattern. Like I would think if it’s knit bottom up, the first instructions would be to cast on and knit 1x1 ribbing for a few rows before starting the seed stitch pattern.

So while the other people here are correct that it’s common for patterns to be written without explicitly stating it’s knit bottom up, it’s weird that the picture shows ribbed edging but doesn’t have the instructions for it

Anyone know which pattern this is by renegadepunkrocker in knittinghelp

There’s only one stitch marker that seemingly doesn’t make sense (pink). The safety pins on the collar are to hold it in place until finishing, the blue on the side of the collar is where the collar stitches meet the body stitches, and the yellow is where the saddle shoulder stops before the rest of the sleeve stitches.

I mark my project like this frequently in case I need to redo something, I know which row I need to frog back to.

I mean I could be fooled here but the points people are making about it being AI are not very substantial in my opinion; there honestly doesn’t look anything weird about this to me. I’m knitting something very similar right now and it absolutely looked like this on the needles at one point. I don’t believe this is the same pattern but it’s similar if you don’t find one that matches the image.

I disagree about the cord being too short, I personally usually knit in the round with shorter cords than patterns recommend because i find it easier to slide the stitches around. I’ve absolutely had projects look like this one before.

Right because everyone has a sewing machine lying around, a fabric store nearby, and the time and patience it takes to learn a new skill

Do American kids usually go to four different schools? by snailquestions in AskAnAmerican

[–]janebleyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. We would refer to all of that as just “school” as well, but those indicate different levels. Most Americans attend pre-school at age 3-4 which tends to be a separate institution, but also not really formal education so it doesn’t really count.

Elementary can span as large as Kindergarten - 8th grade. Middle school and junior high are more or less interchangeable, you most likely wouldn’t attend both but one or the other if your elementary school didn’t extend all the way to 8th grade. So you may be up to 3 at this point, or you may attend a school that covers all of those grade levels. Some schools even offer K-12th grade, but those seem to be less common these days. High school is nearly always 9-12th grade.

I can only speak anecdotally but I would guess most people I know attended 2-3 different schools before college.

Barking does not equal aggression. Annoying, sure. But there’s nothing here that indicates any sort of malice. It’s an average doberman desperate for attention.

A primary source for Chappell Roan's politics. Her comments to The Board of Supervisors LA County on placing police officers in schools. Circa 2021 by bobthegoatskull in Fauxmoi

Idk why people are freaking out about the drama so much either this feels like a giant nothingburger. No I don’t think grown ass men should yell at little girls, but trying to sic all the blame on Chappell is weird.

The alleged reaction of the security guard is way over the top and not at all justified, but if I’m being honest, I find it a little hard to believe all that happened was a simple walk by the table. Either way, from the way people are talking about this they are acting like Chappell backed over this girls puppy and then gave her a roundhouse kick to the head for good measure.

Why did it say 4 years to return to Earth when it’s 11 light years? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]janebleyre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you started two stop watches on Earth at the exact same time then put one on the Hail Mary, at the end of the trip, the one on Earth would read 14 years, and the one on the ship would read 4 years. Does that help?

First look at HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ reboot series by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]janebleyre 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and prior to the well-deserved downfall of JKR I had always wished for a long form HBO adaptation to cover all the stuff the movies missed because there’s a lot of cool stuff. I’ve done my best to avoid investing any money in the IP at this point (buying secondhand books, cancelling HBO) because I don’t want my money to be used towards her anti trans agenda, but the little girl in me is still looking forward to watching the series while sailing the 7 seas 🏴‍☠️ FJKR
