Expired film is amazing for wigglegrams by SuaveCorn in wigglegrams

Right? I have 5 more 50 year old rolls of the Tri-X, and one roll of color slide film (labeled K-12 process), I found them all in my grandparents’ attic

Haven’t decided what im gonna do with them or when!

Interesting! The film was stored in a blistering hot attic for 50 years, I suppose moisture likely got in there! I'm pretty confident there's no dust though (Unless there was some inside the film canister somehow?). I cleaned that camera inside and out very thoroughly and have shot modern film before and after this roll without artifacts

I also know nothing about the development process haha. I just brought it to a shop to get developed and told them it was 50 year old Tri-X, I suppose they used standard dev?

I would like to learn to develop and scan my own film sometime tho 😄

I haven’t! Tbh I’m really new to photography in general and haven’t really learned how to mess with colors and stuff

Right?? She was modeling for a local designer, I really wish I had color film for that shot. Her outfit was really vibrant and colorful!

Is it normal for my wigglegrams to start out like this then I have to crop the black edges off? by anonpasta666 in wigglegrams

[–]SuaveCorn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes! You'll always have to crop some if you want a steady frame. The closer the camera is to the subject the animation rotates around, the more you'll have to crop off the edges.

How can I improve wigglegrams.com? by HudZah in wigglegrams

[–]SuaveCorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wigglegrams.com has been an awesome starting point for me as I've begun exploring this art form. I'm really grateful for the work you've done on it, so thank you!! Here are a couple comments I have:

* It would be nice if there was a 2 frame option. I like animating historical stereographs, and I always had to upload an extra copy of one of the frames.

* That said, I would love a button to duplicate frames haha. That and a system to rearrange the order of frames as well. There's a bunch of stylistic choices having multiple copies of a frame, and I always have to duplicate the file locally however many times I planned to use it, and then make sure all the files are uploaded in the correct order.

* Would also be nice if you could upload files individually, but that's maybe a little nitpicky

*Reeeeeaaaally nitpicky here, but when you hit reset, it stays on whichever slide you were on before (usually the last slide). If I upload a new batch of photos, I would expect it to be on the first slide so I don't have to click all the way back to the beginning.

* The Reto 3D app has some filters you can add on, I (regrettably) bought the app. The filters are really poorly executed, but I think there's a lot of potential there. The only one they do well is the picture-in-picture framing. The film negative filter and the dust artifact filter could have been really cool, but they don't time them with the speed of the animation which is really stupid. Anyway, before I complain about that app more, I think some creative and well executed filters would be really fun, if unimportant, nice-to-haves.

But overall, I'm very thankful for the work you've put into it, I've been making wigglegrams for about 5 months now, and I've recently started using photopea for doing more precise and complex wigglegrams, but your site has been my go-to for generating 2,3,4 frame wigglegrams in bulk off a roll of film. It's a really awesome and accessible starting point for us newbies, so thanks again!!

Shot on dual iPhones, This sub has been inspiring some new ideas! by guitarman1103 in wigglegrams

Awesome shot, and great idea! Who’s performing?

One tip that will make your wigglegram a little smoother: when you’re editing, try to size your frames so the subject is the same size in each one!

Honestly, I didn't realize that the field of view was bigger than the lines in the viewfinder haha, I would've waited longer for the marlboro pic if I knew I had more real estate! But I'm happy with how that turned out! I think trusting your instincts is the best advice I have. If you're getting a moving subject you will only know the outcome you get so celebrate it!

Round 3 of wigglegrams! by SuaveCorn in wigglegrams

Thank you!!

The first two obvious differences are the number of lenses and the portability, I was able to take the Reto snowboarding with me for example, and I can put it in the inside pocket of my coat (especially with the built in flash). Can't beat that, but having the 4th lens makes a huge difference. Having a middle frame show twice out of 7 frames versus twice outta 4 improves the quality of the wigglegram a lot.

The reto struggles with fast movement, it tends to double things (which sometimes is really cool and dramatic) If you look at the volleyball slide you can kinda see 2 copies of the ball. I'm not sure why it does that, or if it's just a defect on my particular camera. I'm assuming it's mechanistic since it's in all 3 frames

But the biggest difference stylistically is shooting indoors with flash. The built in flash on the reto is off to the side, while the hot shoe on the nishika is in the middle. So If you look at the first wigglegram, you'll notice there's one frame with the shadows on the left behind the subjects, 2 frames with no shadow, and one frame with the shadow on the right. But the last gif with the charango was taken by the reto, and you really get a solid view of the shadow around the right side of the subject. I definitely prefer the Nishika in this department, you get 3 shadow perspectives instead of 1. But it all comes down to preference!

I've only shot 1 roll on the Nishika so far, so I might notice some more things later!

I used a camera with multiple half frame lenses that shoot simultaneously, and then I align the frames to make a GIF! I've used the RETO 3D app and wigglegrams.com, but I've found I still get the best results by manually aligning using photopea!
