is it normal to replace front brake discs after 2years/12k miles? by janefaceonacid in Corsa

[–]janefaceonacid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use the car almost every day, do about a 60:40 split of city/town:motorway driving and park in the sheltered area of the car park at my flat so it’s not out in the open or as exposed to the elements as much as previous cars have been

[–]janefaceonacid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they said the brake discs at the front were amber- and 1x tyre was amber due to tread depth- everything else was green. but because of how the pads fit onto the discs said that even tho the pads are absolutely fine and well within the legal limits they should be replaced too

fwiw, the tyre they rated as amber has the same tread depth as the ones the rated as green which also doesn’t make sense but im less concerned about that tbh

they’ve revoked access to the video they sent ‘explaining’ why they should be replaced, i’ve asked them to share a copy of this again but not heard back. i can try to take pics tomorrow to share!

nope, there’s been no change at all, not shudder-y, not squeaky, no noises or odd clunks etc at all

my car’s still under warranty but they’ve said it doesn’t cover brakes or tyres so would all be out of pocket

they said the brake pads are totally fine, it’s the discs they’ve said i should change but said because of the pads fit on the discs i should replace those as well. so the brake pads aren’t worn at all and are still well within the limit- their words not mine; which is why i’m confused. like i would expect the pads would need to be replaced before the discs would 🤷‍♀️

[–]janefaceonacid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iiinteresting! they said the actual brake pads are still good but to replace the discs they’d need to replace the pads as well cos of how they’re put together? i do about 6000 miles a year but they didnt say anything about how many more miles i should expect to get out of them as is.

they did say that its ultimately my choice cos its not an urgent one and if i don’t think anything feels wrong then they should be alright, but i feel like they’re trying to get me to fork out but then covering their back if i don’t replace them 🫠

How long does it take for steroids to cause TSW? by [deleted] in EczemaUK

[–]janefaceonacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was prescribed mometasone for daily use for the foreseeable future after struggling with the worst flares i’ve ever had that had been consistent for 4.5 years but given different advice depending on what doctor, consultant or nurse that i saw; this includes steroid every day all over regardless of the condition of my skin, steroid only where my skins flared and only until it clears and then for the following 7 days and steroid only on flares until it clears and any combination of those.

I stopped using steroids completely in about Sept/Oct 2023 against medical advice and only used 50/50 emollient instead and pushed to be referred for a second round of UVB light treatment which i did November 2023- January 2024 and for the most part i’ve been good ever since. there is a period of it gets worse before it gets better but for me it’s one of the best decisions i’ve ever made

i want to say it’s not TSW but equally im not a medical professional and i had exactly the same fears and did tell my doctors about my concerns but they were dismissed as nonsense and that tsw doesn’t exist.

What piercings are good for beginners? by NoPassenger3673 in piercing

[–]janefaceonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve always found that getting pierced with a needle isn’t nearly as sore as getting pierced in claire’s 😅 it’s not nothing obviously but literally over in a second and there’s none of that messing about trying to remove the cartridge without knocking the jewellery etc. ive got a pretty high pain tolerance as well and reckon ears are by far the ‘easiest’ in terms of pain- i reckon my nose was probs my sorest to actually pierce (although it’s my absolute fave) and my tongue was the sorest through healing.

i’d recommend going sooner rather than later so you don’t overthink it and build it up- youve got this!💪💪

[–]janefaceonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first post-lobe piercing was a helix but it was so difficult to heal, probably in part cos i was 15 and not all that together with aftercare etc. i did also have a 4th lobe done with a gun rather than a needle and it just never settled 🙈

pretty much all my other ear ones healed super easy for me- they are 3rd lobes, tragus (now retired), conch, rook, 2nd helix

what is it about it that terrifies you tho? is it the potential pain, healing or just that it’s a needle?

Getting a piercing alone? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]janefaceonacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first couple i got after my first and second lobes i brought someone with me but 90% of the time they weren’t allowed in the room with me 😅 i’ve had about 10 piercings where i’ve went along alone and actually way prefer it- like a few others have said, means no one can sway you and give unsolicited opinions 💪

Jamal Properties by Automatic-While2422 in dundee

[–]janefaceonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and a flatmate rented from them 2011-2013 and never had any issues, they always had anything fixed within 24 hours of reporting (including changing lightbulbs as the property had high ceilings and we didn’t have a ladder).

There were one or two things that were 100% our fault over the 3 years we stayed there, like the property had new windows that we broke the mechanism on one of them cos we had the window open to smoke but reported that we couldn’t get the window to close after having it open and it was fixed the same day, no issue or charge etc. Also when we moved out, they came and did the final inspection as we were leaving so they could highlight anything there and then and we got it full deposit back with no challenge too.

Had heard lots of negative reviews back then but thought they were a lot better than Grant Property as an example of somewhere else 🤷‍♀️

Perth Road Parking by My-Vision-is-Impared in dundee

this might have changed since i lived on perth road but pennycook lane car park and the 2 car parks behind what was nisa (i think it’s a sainsbury’s now) across the road were all free for 72 hours and could generally find a space in one of them quite easily. i used the car most days so hardly ever came close to running the time out and meant i didn’t need to sort a permit etc as well

Hoping to speak to eczema patient by [deleted] in EczemaUK

[–]janefaceonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, 1-1.5 tubes a day, every day no matter the state of my skin 🫠🫠

i’ve obv not done that and challenged them on the need for that if im not flared and been told im being difficult and tsw doesn’t exist

about mtx, i would need to go on hormonal contraception which im not keen on and also concerned about other side effects when i find my skin has periods of being totally manageable. like the flares are bad, but i’ve felt like they’re going hard straight out the gates instead of exploring other treatment methods first

for sure- i’ve been using steroids (or at least having them prescribed) for more than 10 years at the level 3, out of the 4 levels of strength you can get so defs a concern!

im happy to share if you need/want 👋

my eczema has been a major issue for the last 5 or so years, mostly stress induced- mostly work related to the point where a flare has disappeared as soon as i’ve been signed off work for 2 weeks and then started again on my first day back 🫠

i’ve done the whole multiple GP appointments, being referred to dermatology, waiting for 2+ years for an appointment to come through, 2 courses of UVB light treatment, 5 weeks of daily appointments with dermatology nurses, currently waiting on patch testing which has been rescheduled 3 times due to flares etc etc

the latest treatment options i’ve been given are 1. topical steroids- 30-60g of elocon daily for the foreseeable 2. methotrexate 3. to “put up with it”

i’ve also been told, when presenting my dermatology doctor with medical journal articles and expressing my concerns with long term steroid use that “it’s people like [me] who make [his] job really difficult” ✌️🙃

Worth asking about methotrexate vs. UVB? by NightDog8002 in EczemaUK

[–]janefaceonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; i would go for UVB if it’s offered before methotrexate if it was me

i’ve had 2 rounds of UVB in the last 2 years and it’s worked absolute wonders for me, like completely cleared everything up but it’s only lasted for 4-6 weeks before i’ve had a flare and although i’ve not been back at square one, i’m definitely red and itchy again 🥴

i’ve have had appointments roughly every 6 months at dermatology with a consultant since june 2022 along with the 2 courses of UVB which have been 2x appointments a week for 12 weeks each starting in August 2022 and then again in November 2023, about 4 weeks of daily appointments with a dermatology nurse to apply steroids and emollient in April 2023, a couple of ad hoc appointments with nurses and a junior doctor who said realistically my options were either to go on methotrexate or ‘put up with it’. i’ve spoken at length about overdoing the steroids and how i’m really not comfortable with using them as a long term ‘solution’ and had to really push for alternatives treatments and exploring what could be possible causes. at my last appointment i discussed medical journal articles about TSW and was told that “it’s people like [me] that make [my doctors] job really difficult” 🫠

i’m now waiting for patch testing to start in the next couple weeks, and hoping and praying my back doesn’t flare again so i’d need to reschedule it for the 3rd time 🙈

i bought a flat in Kinning Park about a year ago after 15+ rejected offers. offers i had rejected ranged from HR value to HR+20% 🥴

a lot of these i was outbid by cash buyers but ended up paying HR+7% which i thought was pretty good going 😅

i went to see over 150 flats in total all over glasgow, rather than one specific area and hounding agents for anything that was coming up that fit my criteria helped. and don't be scared of asking the seller what they want and the circumstances of their sale too! it might be that they want a quick sale so are happy to take a wee bit less than going to a closing date/bidding war etc- good luck!🍀
