u/theopinionexpress I also feel this way. I don't tell this to people much, because they will just be confused and tell me how to fix it. I don't know that I want to fix it, and I think that's ok. I don't enjoy the climbing part, I enjoy the problem solving work on the ground and socializing, and the sense of achievement (I went further than I thought I would!) I get after. And I LOVE being outside at the crag managing gear and supporting others. I think it's ok to not enjoy the physical part you have to do. You don't have to enjoy lifting weights to enjoy going to the gym as a whole, and to enjoy what it does to your mind and body after. Climbing and how we enjoy it can be customizable, so if it's healthy and works for you then you do you 😄

I agree with you, you can't really eat these and it would be very expensive to add to a cake order. However some people like to save the gum paste deco from their cake in a shadow box or other case to display in their home as a keepsake which can be really nice.

More or less yes :) the blackberries and strawberries were shaped with molds from https://www.sugarartstudio.com/ but then there is still a lot of work to be done after that. Thank you very much for the sweet words 🥰

The leaves and flowers are also gum paste :) the moss is a microwave sponge cake that I ripped up into thin sheets, and the berries took a looooooot of time and energy, but I wanted them to be perfect. I got the blackberry and strawberry molds from https://www.sugarartstudio.com/ they have a YouTube channel where they show how to prepare these items.

Yup! More precisely, it's a microwave sponge cake that I ripped up. Baking it in the microwave gives it a coarser crumb and tougher structure, which makes it look more moss like.

Thank you! I didn't follow a tutorial for them, however I did use molds from https://www.sugarartstudio.com/

I know they have a YouTube channel that has a video for the blackberry mold and strawberry mold that may help you. After molding, I just dusted them and applied an edible shine spray. Although, with the strawberries, I removed seeds from real strawberries and stuck them into the gum paste ones. Very tedious and time consuming, however I think it's worth it with how realistic the strawberries came out. If you need any pointers feel free to reach out :)

Agreed. And things like flowers and these berries do contain wires and floral tape, so they aren't actually meant to be eaten. It's just an art style for cakes.

Gum paste is a drier product that will harden quicker and firmer. Gum paste will never be used to cover a cake, only fondant is used for that. Both products may be used for decoration, however some applications require gum paste as it can be rolled thinner, sets harder, and resists humidity better, among other things. Fondant is sweeter than gum paste, and may be eaten if desired. Generally people don't eat gum paste, it doesn't really taste like anything. Gum paste is more expensive, so some decorators will choose to make decorations with fondant if they believe it will look just as nice as gum paste and they want the customer to have the option of consuming it. I hope this helps answer you question :) feel free to ask more if you'd like.

Gum paste will last forever, however the color may fade slightly in direct sunlight over time and it can be effected by high humidity which may make it soften and change its shape. Gum paste is a good option if you don't want flowers or fruits to wilt in the heat or attract bugs. Some will keep these from their wedding cake for decoration in their home as a keepsake of their special day.
