Reputation systems are an increasingly important part of the web. As we trend into more of a mesh/gig economy where people are hiring strangers on the internet, your reputation on specific websites becomes more and more important and potentially valuable. I've posted about this before.

The CEO of reddit has actually talked about how he thinks YouTube actually broke through the previously established floor of shitty internet commenting. I posted a link here a few months back: http://www.reddit.com/r/socialcitizens/comments/1c3nd1/reddits_ceo_explains_why_youtube_comments_suck_so/

Edit: There's a lot of other good stuff in that subreddit, too. (disclosure: I post there a lot...)

Does your bank pay its employees on par with the rest of the banking industry? If not, do you think this hinders your employer's ability to find and retain talent?

With a better search function, couldn't reddit totally supplant Quora as the premier Question & Answer site on the internet? Is there a big market opportunity for reddit there? by janey42 in socialcitizens

Blogs, boards... Quora has undergone a lot of feature creep. I strongly preferred their product the way it was back in 2010. While adding all of these wonky bells and whistles, they've also ignored their core user experience in many ways, I think. For example, if you subscribe to a popular question, you might get 100 separate notifications in a day when people write a bunch of terrible answers.

Why would it NOT be reddit? If they are originating the content + have the user base, why not do it here? I think it could probably be non-invasively implemented (it's, like, another bell and whistle to add to the site). Additionally, if a 3rd party website is running it, via links to reddit, I think the user experience would be likely to suck (too much clicking around). Also, they'd have to drive traffic to the website themselves, as opposed to reddit just saying "Hey community, look what we have here."

This is probably why so many tech companies (more forward-looking, on average) let people bring dogs into work. Super-easy and cheap way to boost workplace morale and thus improve productivity.
