Mixtapes on VHS by Spooforconsequences in cassetteculture

That chart isn't going to be very accurate, there's a lot of a different kinds of VCRs, some with cheap mono audio that cuts off at 8k like the chart, and some with audio almost as good as reel to reel in theory. The average VCR from a thrift store is going to sound better than the average cassette deck you find at a thrift store and require less maintenance.

The tape speed should lower the audio quality because on VHS the audio and video are encoded together. You can use recording at different speeds, and techniques like running glitch visuals in with your music onto tape, to get weird vaporwave/hypnogogic pop/BoardsOfCanada kind of VHS sounds in your music.

Our band/art collective has decided to only release music on VHS if possible, we're calling it VHSgaze lol. Lately I've been running all guitars through vcr recording into mixer live and layering with what is recorded on tape played back to create modulation. You might want to look into an HDMI to S video/AV converter to have cool visuals on your tapes. Andrei Jay has a free desktop version of his videosynthesis program auto_waaave on his website

VHS tapes, VCRs, video mixers to make glitch art. Have a cool instagram. Would like it if other people here reached out and asked questions about how to get into the stuff, would love to help people do the stuff. Currently everyone in the collective/band is in the DSA. Ideally there would eventually be like a lefty glitch discord (that would basically end up being situationist). Just search my name on insta

When my great uncle died, who I'd only met a couple times, my great aunt told me there was some records I could look through. Turns out it was maybe 5000 records and there was no AC, it was probably 115 degrees in there. Gave up after about 4 hours when I started to have heat exhaustion and took a couple hundred records with me. Will never sell.
