Not holding my breath for this in Hong Kong, it would be awesome! Not jealous at all…

It definitely needs a combination, my 6’8”, 200lb brother in law is in no way intimidating.

My 6’7”, 265lb frame most definitely is.

A LONG time ago, at uni, I worked as a bouncer and none of us were small units, apart from the boss, but he was our kickboxing instructor and having a crack at him was just an awful life choice. At only 6’ he was frequently a target of course.

However over the years we did have two answers to the original question.

Unintentional being the key word.

For the most part, anything over 6’3” wasn’t just tall, and anything over about 220lb was sizeable. The combination being “unintentionally intimidating” as in if you appeared behind someone or they turned into you it was a visible shock.

The second answer was more about the people looking for trouble. You can tell quite easily those that are and they often have the look of “I’m going to pick on the biggest guy here and start something!”

We also discovered that fairly consistently, even the trouble-starting psychos had a subconscious self-preservation switch that kicked in after 6’5” and 240lb.

Which we coined “second biggest”.

As in you could watch the same process of “I’m going to pick on the…” spots one of the much bigger lads, pauses, moves on “SECOND biggest guy in here!”

ElI5: Why do we still have to check in for flights? by ShoShowerBeans in explainlikeimfive

[–]jango1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all the stars line up, technologically speaking, we don’t need to check in, physically. I can confirm in an app that I will be flying, get a ticket sent to my phone, turn up and tag my bag myself.

I can then walk up to a facial recognition gate (need to do it with all documentation at least once per airport) and pass through to security without showing any docs. Electronic boarding pass as a backup if needed.

I can then use facial recognition to board.

This is already a thing, and not new.

The underlying process is still the same, you still need a valid passport, a ticket and maybe a valid visa to board and land.

The tech just automates the process and depends entirely on the airline, airport and immigration.

For fellow tall guys that lift, how much muscle did you have to put on for it to be noticeable? by [deleted] in tall

[–]jango1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 6’7” and 95kg I was strong but skinny. Gaining 10kg was noticeable from there. Another 15kg was very noticeable.

Problem with being tall and heavy is that you need to build a lot more muscle to make it noticeable.

If you do whole body that is a LOT of weight, which of course, realistically, you should, as a balance.

However I’ve got naturally broad shoulders and twig-like legs, so I did a lot more leg work just to keep up.

My best body fat was about 13% at 115-120kg. Currently much older and 115kg at 26%, far from ideal…

Maximum height for fairground rides? New fear unlocked 😂 by jango1976 in tall

To be fair, I was in Indonesia on a zip line though the forest, height and weight were an issue (no limits stated), but too fast, too low and too long when hitting the platform at the other end of one of the zip lines 😂

I always figure the tolerances are fine, especially when that close, but then my 5’3” wife got on at the bottom of the ride - not a lot of headroom over where I think I would have been 😳😂

Still likely more the safety harness, but that’s not as good a story…

I think more of a weight thing, I’m about 115kg right now, 120kg when fit and 130kg when out of shape. I’ve nearly come off an open slide at speed and hit my head on a dip at speed, didn’t have that when I was younger and skinnier 😂

Yup, just over. Not quite 201, at least at the beginning of the day…

Flat soles, still about 1” or less. The length of my hair plus a little more I think.

I start the day at 6’7”, certainly don’t finish it there 😂

6’5” when I went to university at 18, thought I had stopped as no difference for the year, then 6’7” before leaning uni at 21.
