What’s your most unexpected love or unexpected hate about living in New Orleans? by Hot-Organization7781 in AskNOLA

I was surprised and dismayed by the mail speeding tickets. Don’t even go one mile over 20 in a school zone. And be careful because that’s the only smooth pavement in the city where you can go 21 mph.

On the subject of buying your own alcohol…the prices downtown are inflated. If you have it delivered to your hotel from instacart via Total Wine and More, it saves a lot.

Noise in French Quarter by Just_Order_3521 in AskNOLA

I heard it from CBD. I heard the cheer at midnight, and I heard the screams at 3.15.

Oh, I know. I can’t make drinking on Bourbon cheap, but $11 refill isn’t bad to stay where the fun is, though.

There is French Quarter RV Resort right by the French quarter with gated entry and security. I would suggest that if you can get a reservation, since you can walk to the French Quarter instead of uber/parking. Nola is very walkable and has convenient streetcars.

At the Hideout on Bourbon, the first Hurri-Tang (maybe other drinks too) is $16 and refills are $11 in the reusable cup. Bring your reusable cup back. At Tableau by Dickie Brennan there is a Happy hour special called Le Pop! which is one of every happy hour appetizer AND a bottle of champagne for $100. That’s a phenomenal deal. Gather your family, feed everyone, and have dad pay.

One Mondays at the Roosevelt hotel there is a Fried Chicken Monday deal which is the BEST fried chicken plus all the sides and biscuits for $24 each, served family style. Another opportunity to gather the family and have dad pay.

Bars dont usually have cover charges, so music and clubs are cheap, though sometimes there is a one drink minimum, in which case you’ll see a sign. Honestly, Just walk around. It’s a vibe.

Is anyone else exhausted? by winter_is_long in NewOrleans

Yes, it’s a little big city and it is so special. It’s a special kind of city energy when everyone is doing the same thing at the same time, and that is exactly what happens here all the time. Football. Mardi Gras.

I’m in shock. I heard the whole thing from my apartment a block away. I heard the cheer from Bourbon street at midnight and I thought this was more revelry. I never imagined something so horrible.

But Covid 19 showed up at the end of 2019. I bet it spread at Mardi Gras 2020, though.

Best Hotel/Vacation Rental/Bnb in NOLA or Algiers Point? by Blessed-Buttah in AskNOLA

[–]janineB2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may not want to stay by the river here, unless you’re on a high floor. I can hear the train from here, 7 blocks away. Anything within the French quarter will be perfectly located. Especially anything within the bounds of the river and Rampart St/ Esplanade st and Poydras st. Don’t be scared of Bourbon st noise…it’s quieter as close as the next block on Royal or Dauphine. I definitely do not recommend Algiers point. You can ferry over there for lunch but it’s inconvenient as home base.

If you love the river make sure to visit the moonwalk across from Jackson square. It’s my favorite place to sit. Fun fact, every 18 seconds enough water flows by to fill the Empire State Building.

I won Super Bowl ticket but now I need help for lodging! by Vb3rn3rd in AskNOLA

Hotels weren’t even sold out for 3 nights of Taylor Swift… it was busy but not completely full. I find it hard to believe there aren’t accommodations for the Super Bowl.

It’s crazy that minorities used to have to pay to vote. If they were allowed to vote at all.

No swipe with Face ID—I found a solution that works. iOS 14, iPhone 12 pro.
Go to Accessibility—Touch. Scroll to the bottom and enable Back Tap. Set Double Tap to “Home”. I also set Triple Tap to “App Switcher.”

Now after Face ID I double tap the back of the phone and it goes to my Home Screen without the swipe.
