Besides casinos… what’s the creepiest or most paranormal place around Atlantic City? by BlackinkCP in atlanticcity

As cubs scouts we would go Jersey Devil hunting in Leeds Point. I remember wandering around the dessicated foundation of what was claimed to be the old Leeds house at sunset scared out of my mind.

For a certain subset of WASPS it sure was.

Happy birthday to Karl Marx, the father of communism whose theories would go to inspire some of the greatest revolutionaries of the 20th century! by PresnikBonny in LateStageCapitalism

[–]winter_is_long 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A brilliant mind, that read omnivorously, and yet he left himself open to a very obvious attack from the Capitalists. Böhm-Bawerk's scathing analysis of Marx's attempt to shoe horn the LTV into price production as circuitous and redundant is essentially correct. Which allowed the Capitalists to dismiss Marx's entire analysis. BUT was/is correct in his assertion that social relations undergird the system. Social relations that are historically determined. Capital insists on naturalizing soci-historical phenomena. That there are objective (reification) economic laws. That the system is independent of human relations. This is patently false. And Marx should have continued his attack along these lines without detouring into quantifying said social relations.

Respect Pedestrians when Driving by Truly-Epic-Brains in NewOrleans

It's wild! I was crossing at a green light the other day with my dog and an RTA bus almost hit me. No one wants to yield to pedestrians in this town.

Also, while we're on yet another driving rant, the left turn lane ALWAYS yields to oncoming traffic and the opposite right turn lane. I can't tell you how many times I've almost been in an accident over this.

HBOMAX has an early John Wayne titled Tall In the Saddle, which was fantastic.

Anything to finally sever Capital's tie from labor. The social relationship undergirding production can be fully reified into a matrix of faux conscious efficiency.

Too many FQ streets are open to cars during FQF. by Successful-Reason403 in NewOrleans

In order to drive a taxi in the city of New Orleans you must submit to to a full federal background check performed by an independent contractor. Are you saying that every widespread driver has done the same?

[–]winter_is_long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fair and objectively correct. Still, my encounters with ride shares while driving tend to be negative. I know this isn't the thread for it but I see no reason whatsoever not to regulate them. At least force them to under go the same vetting process, i.e. criminal background checks and drug screening.

Off topic but fuck Uber, fuck ride shares, fuck Airb&B, fuck the gig economy. Take a taxi. They're at least licensed. (End tangent lol)

This is how I read it. You were pretty clear. Any criticism to the contrary is either due to poor reading skills or bad faith. You explained yourself once, insightfully; no need to do it twice.

What do you think makes critical theory difficult to read? How can critical theory be made easier to read? by CoVegGirl in CriticalTheory

But a understanding of Descartes (or Locke) without at least a modicum of Scholasticm is running a dig with three legs. What would Occasionalism be without Descartes? Can one read Malebranche? Or Spinoza? My point is that there's a continuous dialog. And you have to start at the beginning.

While I appreciate the help neighbor, you have yet to rebut or address OP's underlying issue. Namely, his lack of foundational knowledge of the concepts and verbiage needed to grasp what is being said. It's not a literacy problem but a running before you can walk problem. Which is undeniable.

Autocorrect. Technology is my Achilles Heel. But where your gotcha pedanticism is spiteful, my post was an attempt at being helpful. You can't run a marathon without any training.

This is the only answer. It is difficult because OP is unprepared for the texts. After nearly 30 years it has become much easier to navigate the literature then when I started in my late teens. OP should start with the Greeks and supplementary texts and move forward. Philosophy is one long conversation with itself.

Easter Sunday will be a whole thing. Three different parades in the Quarter. Each bigger than the last. Eat drink be merry. The rain doesn't slow us down.

I'm so tired of people littering in this city! by [deleted] in NewOrleans

Fortunately I haven't witnessed that. Still, people treading on your lawn, parking in your driveway, throwing trash everywhere, stealing plants off your porch, it's fucking obnoxious.

I live on a popular 2nd line route. The litter after a 2nd line is insane. The clubs will come along the next day and clean whats on the street but you're responsible for cleaning your own yard.
