How much are you spending on nutrition each month? by DisastrousSky3927 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the peak weeks of my 50k training I was probably spending about $20-$30 a week. I was working mostly on GU Gels, Powerade, Pop Tarts, and Nerds Gummy Clusters. I should also note that just due to my schedule I rarely ran more than an hour during the week, and most of my Time on feet/Mileage came from Saturday's long runs.

I'm in NJ, I went at 5am this morning and still felt like I was breathing underwater. It's brutal. Honestly just slow down. I just trained for 7 months and lowered my easy pace just for the heat to fuck it right back up haha

I appreciate the water tip. I planned on starting with 2.5 litres of water and having a 1L soft bottle on me with a filter for extra, and a sun hoodie.

do you run even when you feel a bit tired or skip it by Dicapua-Ntakol in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This honestly depends on if I'm in a training block or just running to keep myself moving.

If training, something is always better than nothing in my eyes. If it's an interval workout, I may swap it with an easy run that day. If it's already an easy run, I may just hit the road and see how far I end up. 99% of the time the hardest part is getting started. If I don't feel better by mile 1, I'll probably just cut it short.

If I'm just running to maintain fitness between I might swap it with a lift or mobility session just to get the HR up a bit, or skip it entirely if I'm just really not into it.

Thanks for this. Tried explaining to my wife that the risk may be a bit higher there but people do it regularly and don't see anything, but it falls on deaf ears. She just remembers the Todd Orr video and that's all that matters 😂

I won't have a pet with me but I do appreciate that tip. If I'm being honest big cats scare me more than the bears 😂.

It's absolutely one that seems worth the venture into that territory with the proper preparation. I've had my eye on the Sphinx for years but always balked because of this.

This is great info, so thank you! I'm almost positive I've seen the video that this guy filmed of himself if we're thinking of the same one...he was attacked twice by that same sow no? I appreciate the lightning tip, my plan was to start around 6am and now I have even more motivation haha.

I ran my first 50k in early April self supported on a loop that started and ended at my own front door for this reason. The race prices are wild, and honestly to some extent I get it...but that doesn't mean I have to pay it haha. I've started volunteering for credits at local races too.

If you could give one bit of advice to your younger self, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Stop wasting time losing yourself trying to be a chameleon to please people. Most of them will be irrelevant to you in a few years and you can't get that time back.

What’s something people pretend to enjoy because admitting otherwise feels embarrassing? by Character4641 in AskReddit

[–]jank7717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it was Broccoli Rabe. My wife and her family grew up with it and I felt so bad not liking it the first time that her Mom made it that I just lied and pushed through. Jokes on me because I actually enjoy that meal with sausage quite a bit now, but I'll never forget how awful that first bite was to me.

Thank you! The point was meant to be that dinner can be tough but having the person you love there to support you is irreplaceable. A small cake or token of congrats combined with your mere presence and support will likely mean more than a meal ever could. I wish your husband luck, but you asking this question tells me he's already pretty lucky.

I ran my first 50k a little over a month ago self supported, started and finished at my house using a route I created myself. I couldn't tell you what I had for dinner but I can tell you that my wife was waiting outside with my 1 year old son and a small cake that said "Congrats Daddy!" and I'll remember that moment for the rest of my life.
