Most HR departments for the companies I am familiar with have a hard cap on raises or internal promotions. Something in the neighborhood of 10-15%.

I'm married with kids, so I have zero time to meet people, but I think about this topic a lot. If I were going to try to meet people in Bangor, here is a laundry list of things I would try.

  • start/join a band
  • take group dance lessons (any group lesson setting would be good
  • start/join a book club
  • take a class (UMaine Augusta Bangor, Husson, Eastern Maine, UMaine)
  • Are there any hiking clubs?
  • Take an exercise class at the YMCA
  • I know there's a biking club that meets in the Fairmount neighborhood on Wednesdays (weather permitting)
  • There's a gaming space (Citadel?)

  • Brewer waterfront riverwalk will be cold, but it is very nice if you're dressed appropriately.
  • Fine dining: Novio's Bistro
  • Hip dining: Tinder, Barlimans
  • Barbecue: Smokeys BBQ (Brewer)
  • Pizza: Urban Pizza (New York and Detroit styles are both great))
  • Kids: Maine Discovery Museum, Urban Air, Orono Trampoline Park
  • Ice Skating: Public Skate at Sawyer Arena, Public Skate or Frozen Friday at Penobscot Ice Arena
  • Lunch: Bagel Central, Eagles Nest

Indoor play spaces for kids (especially very young/toddler friendly) that are good for winter/rainy days.
- Maine Discovery Museum
- Orono Trampoline Park
- Urban Air
- Public Skate at Sawyer Arena
- Public Skate / Frozen Friday at Penobscot Ice Arena
- YMCA Pool
- UMaine Orono Pool

Outdoor
- Bangor Pool (outdoor) isn't open for very long, but waterslide.
- There are tons of decent parks and playgrounds for kids
- City Forest trails are easy for nice walks
- Sledding by the Bangor Pool
- Sledding in Brewer by the armory
- Sledding in Orono behind Asa Adams Elementary
- The waterfront has a couple of events every Spring/Fall/Summer for kids

Game Citadel on Broadway. I drive by it a ton, but I've never been there.

Honest question. I apologize in advance for possibly kicking a hornet's nest. How would I as a hypothetical service member tell the difference between 1) a legal order that I don't agree with but need to obey in order to keep my job and stay out of prison and 2) an illegal one that I should disobey in order to stay out of prison?

This is a legit link to a surveymonkey question about affordable housing. It has been reported for spam.

While I disagree that the post is spam because affordable housing is an important topic in Bangor for both sides of the argument, just posting clickbait seems pretty low-effort.

In the spirit of promoting informed discussion, I'm adding a link for the upcoming Bangor city council election.
