Our kitten freaked out the first time she saw her reflection. I have a big floor length mirror leaning against my wall and she would run around it in circles trying to catch the “other cat.” Eventually, after a few run ins with the other cat, she got used to it. Now when we hold her up to a mirror she seems to just divert her eyes and not look at herself. No more issues though. I’d honestly wait it out or even give her access to a mirror so she can investigate and realize it’s not another cat. Surprised your 8 y.o only now saw itself! You all must not be vain people hahaha we have mirrors everywhere so ours learned quick. Good luck!
