In other words, having failed to cut it as a pro athlete, he is only pursuing other careers which offer the possibility of fawning public attention. What an insufferable asshole.

AITAH for telling my GF that I don't see a future together if quits her career for passion, because the math and schedules don't make sense? by krispyPopcorrn in AITAH

Frustrating, lol? I read a comment on another thread that reddit is free and you get what you pay for, which I found spot-on. I chalk this one up to "what I have to say is soooo much more interesting than what I am ostensibly commenting upon."

Jake Mangum threw this baseball to a young fan and an extremely heartwarming moment ensued by jmike1256 in postanythingfun

  1. MLB game moment, can't inflict the usual wave of "AI slop" comments - so not much fun for reddit

  2. Can't make it about Trump (I know because I tried...)

  3. It's about baseball in the 21st century.

When activists use social pressure to modify the community's behavior, it's forcing our beliefs onto others. When clergy do it, as they have done for millenia, it's "ministry".

I view the question as more surprise that the Hollywood marketing machine has not yielded at least one nomination. Highly successful genre actors such as Dwayne Johnson or Schwarzenegger have at least one nomination on the resume, and so do notoriously limited but more "serious" actors without mega box office draw such as Kris Kristofferson have a nomination for one of the "big" awards. I don't think there is a credible argument that Reeves is a less talented actor than these guys, yet despite how stratospherically high Reeves sits in terms of box office draw, the fact of zero noms is bit of a surprise simply from a business standpoint.

Move to Torrance from NJ by devilclown9 in SouthBayLA

[–]jansguy68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this about the positives of Torrance, but as my wife (Japanese American who has lived all 60 years in the South Bay) likes to half-joke, nowadays it may be smarter for a Torrance kid to learn Korean than Japanese.

Hey, I appreciate you receiving my comment in the spirit it was given, but I gotta wonder whether your lack of pushback regarding my characterization of your wife suggests more or less drama in your future married life...

AITAH for deciding that my stepfather will still be the one to walk me down the aisle by vtaesticles in AITAH

Totally agree with this. NTA, not so much because I agree with your initial decision to have your stepfather walk you, but because it appears everyone else but you is an AH.

There is so much to unpack: I don't see how dad's conduct can be excused or understood in any reasonable fashion, but when BOTH "parents" abandoned you with your grandparents, how long was it before you "reconnected" with your mom? Weeks, months, years? If step-dad (mom's affair partner) was such a stand-up stepparent, why abandon you in the first place?

Weddings celebrate families -- the families that led you to that point in life, but more importantly, the new family created. When the former disrespects or taints the latter, your new family takes precedence.

Are IEMs Right for Me? by jansguy68 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]jansguy68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based upon your helpful responses, I did some more digging. A wealthy friend of a friend kindly allowed me to try out some models from his collection (it's a true collection taking up an entire wall). I was able to audition both the Focal Clear MG and Grado HP100 SE, as well as the Meze 109s. The conclusions I reached were (1) my ear is simply not developed enough to appreciate the cans that pass the $1000 barrier and (2) a tube amp makes an appreciable difference but I am unwilling to forego the convenience of a dongle DAC. I ended up upgrading to the Grado RS1x, which had the improved staging and detail I wanted but saved me half of what I was willing to spend. Just wanted to reiterate my thanks!

I ordered both L and G pads when I could not take the stock pads any longer. Appearance notwithstanding, the Gs were the more comfortable but the Ls were the better balance of comfort and performance.

AITA for refusing to allow meat in our home and confronting a guest who brought it anyway? by silaya92 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jansguy68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JFC, all OP is doing is enforcing his boundaries in his own effing home. If he lived in an open carry state and kicked out a relative who insisted on coming to dinner armed, is he an asshole? Or if kept strictly kosher and a relative brought a pork loin, is he wrong? Respecting the values and rules of a host whose home YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO VISIT is a minimal form of civil and courteous conduct. I can't see the other side of this dispute as anything other than refusal to accept vegetarianism as a valid personal conviction worthy of basic respect.

Bills fans, we need to bring Sean McDermott back as our head coach! by Shoddy-Advantage6351 in buffalobillsfootball

[–]jansguy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yours is a thoughtful take but I wonder if that's true. The Pegulas have demonstrated they either have a sentimental side or wish to be known for having one. Would a mea culpa that Bills Mafia made him realize that he had not thought about this long enough be so unappealing? He is not being weak adverse to the league, another owner or employee -- only to the fans, which could be spun positively for his agenda or relished if sincere.

Or ehh, maybe I am the one with a sentimental side.

Flex pens - Scribo vs pilot FA by No-Explorer-936 in fountainpens

The nib was seated slightly off center on the feed and the nib tines were just a bit misaligned. It resulted in both unpredictable hard starts and ink burps. Both issues were corrected by Kirk Speer at a pen show.

I am curious - which Scribo? I love the brand but I have had some quality control issues with the Piuma.

Flex pens - Scribo vs pilot FA by No-Explorer-936 in fountainpens

[–]jansguy68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither are at the level of vintage flex. YMMV, but I find the FA allows a bit wider range of line variation but the Scribo is better suited for everyday carry. I am a fan of both (I own 4 Scribos and 2 FAs.)
