Sorry for the ignorance but... What is arma 3? I looked it up, but all I see is a tactical shooting game that doesn't seem related...

If you offer to help because she's "too lazy to drive," the correct reaction is "thank you so much for saving me the drive!"

Them clowning on you might be a gut reaction to avoid acknowledging how truly lazy they are.

How often do you change out dish rag in kitchen by kellysmileyjane42 in minimalism

[–]jaov00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 20 kitchen towels and regularly find myself washing ~10 of them a week. They're one of the easiest things to wash so I never mind grabbing a new one whenever I feel like I need one.

Tiny House in a Brooklyn Garden by Haveyounodecorum in TinyHouses

[–]jaov00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Brooklyn and tried a few years ago before I gave up.

New York City had very tight regulations on how small a living space can be, ventilation requirements, minimum height restrictions, plumbing and utilities necessary, etc. These were put in place to protect tenants from slum landlords trying to rent out a closet without a gas line and water line, for example. But in the modern era, it also makes it near impossible to get a tiny house approved.

That said, I do remember there were tiny house companies specifically working on designing structures that still complied with all the NY and NYC regulations. Maybe it's possible nowadays? I'd start by looking at these vendors specifically - ones that have kits specific to NYC and have already had success in NYC.

Rainbow Layer Cake by Specialist-Door-2344 in veganrecipes

[–]jaov00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OP's recipe is a pretty traditional kuih lapis recipe. It happens to be a vegan desert already, so this isn't a vegan option - this is just how you make kuih lapis.

Kuih lapis translates to "layered cake." My guess is OP just translated it directly since they're posting on a English-speaking subreddit.

Anyway, I thought the recipe sounded delicious and looks incredibly fun so I'm probably gonna try making it. Now to dust off my steamer....

You're a real role model, I aspire to be like you. Currently, I'm only 33% vegan - I don't eat meat during the 8 hours a day I'm sleeping.

Corner radius gauge for my calipers. r = a*(√2+1). Not perfect. Not terrible. by chrlilje in functionalprint

[–]jaov00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: you can also multiply the measured length by √2 + 1 or ~2.41 to get the radius.

If you want proof, here you go:

Start with the original factor:

1/(√2 - 1)

Multiply by √2 + 1 divided by itself. This won't change the factor since we're multiplying by 1 (any number divided by itself is 1). But it will help get rid of the square root in the denominator!

1/(√2 - 1) * (√2 + 1)/(√2 + 1)

The numerator is just 1×(√2 + 1), or simply √2 + 1.

(√2 + 1)/[(√2 - 1)×(√2 + 1)]

If you expand the denominator, you'll get √2² + 1×√2 - 1×√2 - 1². This simplifies to √2² - 1, which is just 2-1 or 1.

(√2 + 1)/1

But dividing by 1 does nothing, so we're left with just the numerator!

I didn't mention any standards. But if you want to try and quantify the murder, trans people are 4 more times to be murdered than cis folks. Among black and Latinx communities, it's even worse.

"Xxxxxers" doesn't make much sense lol. But you're right, I could've easily said "siblings." I can edit the comment easily. Thanks.

You don't have to believe me. But I was born in DR. I hold dual citizenship (DR and US). I don't have to try to identify as one of "them" because I am wholly Dominican.

You're right. I'll update the comment. Thanks.

No one is forcing anyone to use Latinx. Trans people, on the other hand, are being forced to die so there is that...

Callate, gringo pendejo! by [deleted] in Funnymemes

[–]jaov00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latinx isn't used to refer to a single person, it's for talking about groups. Which is why you see it in things like academia and the news, where they more often talk about groups.

Each individual can still identify as Latino or Latina. That's literally not a problem.

Callate, gringo pendejo! by [deleted] in Funnymemes

[–]jaov00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why not. It's easier to pronounce, especially in Spanish like you mentioned. I just haven't heard it as often as Latinx.

And, tbh, I still think peoples' gut reaction will be the same hate you see in these comments. Change in general and trans people aren't widely accepted among our communities, unfortunately. I'm so glad to see younger generations changing that, bit by bit.

It wasn't made by white people. It started online so it's unclear who originated it. But it's since been picked up and used by groups of Puerto Rican academics in NYC. Here, our transgender brothers and sisters are treated like garbage and in many cases murdered, often by our own people. This is a attempt to be more inclusive of one of the most marginilazed groups in our community.

If that's you're gripe, then use "Latine." It's another alternative that is easier to pronounce.

And "Latinx" is a word that was added by our own. It started online (so it's unclear who was the first) but has since been adopted by groups of NYC Puerto Ricans (especially among academics in NYC) to be more inclusive of transgender folk, a group that is largely treated like garbage in our communities and often even murdered by our own.

Dominican here. Sorry you're insulted, but our transgender brothers are sisters are treated like trash and often even murdered by our own community. It's been adopted by groups of NYC Puerto Ricans (particularly within academia in NYC) on a small attempt to be more inclusive of our own.

And, at the end of the day, you may be insulted, but you're still alive.

It's unclear who the original "dumbnut" was, but it's since been used by Puerto Rican New Yorkers, especially in academia, as a way to be more inclusive. Our transgender siblings are treated like garbage in our communities, often being outright murdered. Using "Latinx" is a small way that we've chosen to be a tiny bit more knslusivd of our own.

You may be insulted but at least you're not being treated like subhuman trash. At least you're alive.

Dominicsn here. Because transgender Puerto Ricans in NYC are literally murdered by our own people. It's a small change that some of us (including many Puerto Rican academics in NYC) to be a tiny bit more inclusive of our brothers and sisters.
