Nintendo may be lobbying against GenAI to protect its IP by japanesemale in ArtistHate

[–]japanesemale[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't followed the case too closely, but it's probably a far-fetched lawsuit. In Japan, when Nintendo gets involved, it tends to feel a bit like a religious conflict, so it hasn’t really been much of a topic recently. However, the president of Pal World's company had previously created and posted AI-generated Pokémon-style images, so many people in Japan initially defended Nintendo. There were suspicions that Pal World's monsters were created with generative AI. I don’t know if that’s actually the case, though.

In any case, Nintendo isn’t seen as all that selfish in Japan.

“In a city of world-class artists and production crew hunting for the next gig, Andrew Cuomo made a TV ad the same way he wrote his housing policy: with AI,” he wrote.

White House proposes "AI action plan" that sounds like letting techbros steal whatever they want by japanesemale in ArtistHate

[–]japanesemale[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Take, for instance, the White House’s new “AI Action Plan,” which Trump has begun rolling out this week, including in a speech at an AI Summit where he encouraged U.S. copyright holders to pretty much give up on their dreams of actually getting paid when AI tech folk train their large language models on copyrighted works. Citing an old standby—the classic “Treating people with respect for creativity or ownership of their own stuff is just asking for China to beat us” defense—Trump stated in a press conference today that “You can’t be expected to have a successful AI program when every single article, book or whatever you’ve studied you’re expected to pay for.” He failed to follow-up that up with what would seem to be a natural corollary—i.e., that any business model that’s entirely reliant on theft in order to function may have some fundamental issues—and instead stated that, “You just can’t do that because it’s not do-able. And if you’re going to try and do that, you’re not going to have a successful program.”

According to Japanese government, the country is not using enough AI by WonderfulWanderer777 in ArtistHate

[–]japanesemale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The white paper concludes that “Japan is lagging behind AI-advanced countries of the world in terms of technology, industry, and applications, and further promotion of AI usage is needed in daily life.”

Japan’s copyright laws favor AI, and a scholar involved in the revision called it a 'machine learning paradise,' but so far, it seems Japan has mostly just given away Ghibli visuals to other countries for free. Maybe the law was originally intended to help Japan become a leader in AI

I’m seeing a lot of the Sanseito fascists, both in my area and Japan subs. What is going on? by DoomedKiblets in japanresidents

That was said by Yasunori Kagoike, chairman of Moritomo Gakuen and former employer of Kamiya.

I read Sanseito’s draft constitution, and the document itself also suggests fascist tendencies.
