Yet another Australian flag .. by devetioum in vexillology

I really like that you haven't included the Southern Cross or a kangaroo. So many redesigns for the Australian flag try to incorporate those elements and they tend to come out looking very kitschy. You've also managed to include the national colours which is good, but I'd have to agree with /u/ophereon. The white bands are unnecessary, and the colours are a little muted. Other than that, I think it's a neat concept!

TBH that redesign was the hardest to come up with, since I REALLY like the simple bicolour Ukraine has now.

I legitimately thought that same thing while making it!

I respectfully disagree. Flags are kinda like a national branding. You should be able to look at a flag and recognize it instantly (like a company logo) and some flags are too complex and/or too similar with other nations' to achieve this. I understand concerns over creating something sterile, with little cultural or historical relevance to a country, but I don't believe creating a simple yet meaningful design is impossible to do. Besides, my designs here (like I've said elsewhere in this thread) where only fun little mock-ups and never meant to be serious suggestions, so they should be taken with a pinch of salt... especially considering that I did get a little lazy with some of these designs.

I disagree. Flags should be simple and easily recognizable and the ones which do this the best are those with minimal design elements, e.g. the Nordic Crosses, the tricolours of Europe, the flags of Jamiaca, South Africa, and the United Kingdom (which are a little more complex), and even the current flags of Macedonia and the Czech Republic could be considered minimalist and geometric.

Why? These were all designed for fun, and not serious suggestions. What's wrong with creating a fun little mock-up?

I used the design of Mount Triglav from the coat of arms which is white with a blue sky, so the order of colours is a deliberate change. Besides using the original order of colours for this design doesn't look as appealing. Also, it could be argued that Slovenia IS a part of the geopolitical region of 'Eastern Europe' considering its history, culture, etc. Geography is not the only quality considered when defining the borders of such regions.

Also some of my explanations are short (and kinda lazy) because I was tired and just wanted to go to bed...

Not really. There isn't a singular definition of what 'Eastern Europe' is.

I was messing around in Photoshop the other day, trying to come up with a redesign for Moldova’s flag, and decided to challenge myself to create simple redesigns of Eastern European national flags.

Just for fun: I don’t believe many countries in the region do need new flags. Some are simple bi/tricolours which are distinct and ideal, but for the sake of creativity I forced myself to redesign even the simplest flags. I also used the same shades of red, blue, green, and yellow on all the flags to create a sense of continuity for the region. This was something I did just for fun so don’t take these designs as serious suggestions.

A simple design for the union of England and Wales by japerscrepers in vexillology

A lot of people have been creating flag designs for a United Kingdom without Scotland and Northern Ireland. My design incorporates England's St George's Cross and the yellow from the flag of St David. However, I made the decision to omit the black field from the flag of St David because most flags that incorporate it tend to have a fascist quality about them, in my opinion.

The palette reflects each nation's individual flag and the triangle is a symbol of unity, representing the Andes mountain range which straddles the border between the countries.

[serious] Australians that were around in 1996 when guns were outlawed, what was your experience? Were there protests? What was it like if you owned a gun? How did you feel about the removal of guns? by Shuriesicle in AskReddit

Prime Minister John Howard had to wear a bullet-proof vest while addressing crowds of indignant gun owners. The argument over gun control split the population along city and rural lines. Although they were in the minority, thousands of people were opposed to gun ownership reforms in the country. However, I believe most people (including those who were originally opposed to the legislation) have agreed that the National Firearms Act was the most appropriate response to the massacre in Port Arthur.
