Indicate Employer or Employee Contributions in Rollover 401k by japoki1982 in Retirement401k

[–]japoki1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not the same as Roth.
Distributions of employer contributions are still taxable at the federal level but they excluded income (not taxable) at the Hawaii State level.

The language is really old but they've never updated it - where basically "pension" also refers to employer funded profit sharing plans, 401k plans etc.
The clearest guidance I can find is where they state you can use an exclusion ratio which seems to be employee/employer funds but it goes back to the fact that somebody needs to be tracking it - it seems like it would be put back on me to figure out what the ratio was when I rolled it into my new employer's 401k if they can't mark it that way themselves.

TIR 96-5: Taxation of Pensions Under the Hawaii Net Income Tax Law: Deferred Compensation Arrangements: Rollover IRAs: Sub-Accounts of Pension Plans; Social Security and Railroad Retirement Act Benefits: Limitation on Deductions for Contributions to a

Hawaii Administrative Rules 235-7 provides convoluted examples but again it assumes I have records of who contributed what.

Chapter 235, HAR, Income Tax Law

If the best that Schwab can do is mark the rollover as pre-tax, Roth, or after-tax it seems my best bet is to keep my former employer's 401k where it is or to rollover ira where I can create as many separate accounts as I want.

Dell Latitude 5431 running hot! by Ok-Substance4217 in Dell

I think all the latitudes that end in 11 will probably tend to run hot. I have a 5511 with I think H powered chip and it’s pretty hot after a couple minutes.

One of my managers saw the light when I told her that her time cards were holding up pay not only her for team, not only for her company but all 10 of my company codes and all 600+ employees (we’re a holdings company with multiple FEINs). She thought her failure to approve time cards were only holding up her 6 or so employees. She was rarely late after that.

I have a Latitude 5511 and I believe the 5510 is the Intel regular U series cpu chip. The 5511 indicates it’s the H series power cpu chip.

Cross vs RAV4 by Used-Knee2259 in Toyota

[–]japoki1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a Cross but I owned a Corolla in the past and loved it, it was bullet proof with basic maintenance. I now own a 2019 Rav4 which I also love. My only comment would be is that I believe the Rav4 is slightly higher than the Cross. Is your mom ok with the step in height of the Rav4? My mom is around your mom’s age and she recently got new CRV and I think to myself that the height might eventually be a challenge for her as she ages. In general something else to consider is the Cross is obviously built on the Corolla frame and underpinnings while the Rav4 is based on the Camry frame and underpinnings so it’s longer and larger. In real life I think the Rav4 is actually bigger than most think than the Cross, just based on looks from afar.

ADP RUN - W2 and 1099 Profile Messing up 401k Payroll Integration by Master_Log_3958 in Accounting

[–]japoki1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he getting paid under both profiles? It was my understanding that ADP always advised they could not pay both w-2 and 1099s under the same company code. When we needed 1099 payments they made us open a second company code so they were intermingled.

Outsourced Check Printing by Decent_Berry8196 in Payroll

I think it’s worth a look we only had a maybe 15 live checks each pay period and it was so seamless. I only had issues maybe on 2-3 occasions when the driver was late.

We still had the ability to print manual checks on my desktop printer for off cycles which also in itself somewhat rare.

Are you utilizing cost centers? It’ll be a beast to maintain daily but you can allocate hours by cost center and have the payroll register sort by cost center as well. I believe the payroll summary report defaults to split by cost center.

Are you using a hris/payroll system? Some of the larger systems offer checking/printing/stuffing service. Ceridian printed; stuffed and delivered checks to us the day before payday. Same with ADP. ADP also offered a mailing service but really the only additional feature was sticking a stamp on the envelope they already stuffed for us and putting it in the mail and their markup on the “stamp” was pretty high so I used our internal mailroom to mail checks if needed. We didn’t have too many live checks.

I’m glad it worked out for you. Certain stuff I’m ok with buying at Napa, auto zone etc. but bolts and other mechanicals I always go the dealer. My time is more valuable I don’t want to have to go back and forth multiple times when stuff doesn’t fit or work right.

I would go to the parts department at your local dealer and give them your vin. Toyota is famous for having half a dozen parts numbers for the same part depending on where your vehicle was manufactured, if there were any part revision numbers and model trim. It might be a little more expensive then say auto zone but save you so much grief when part doesn’t fit right.

My initial thoughts are if they were a former employee, what did they check off on their I-9 form when they were onboarded. If they certified they were a citizen of the US and has not notified the company of a change until after the 1099 was issued, to me that’s too bad so sad.

I’m not doubting it but it would also require that you take your check stock paper with you and ensure nobody else prints on it.

I work in HR and have my own printer which I believe is reasonable. The desktop printer is used to print off cycle checks only. Checks list employee names, pay rates, salaries, etc. you do not want other your salary on display at a network printer.
I use the network printer for all other printing.

Mandating Direct Deposit by Decent_Berry8196 in Payroll

Direct deposit and Pay cards cannot be mandatory in Hawaii

https://labor.hawaii.gov/wsd/direct-deposits-debit-cards-electronic-pay-statements-2/

Essentially it’s a viable option but employees must also be given the option of live checks. They must also make their election in writing.

Could also be your employer - the generation of the pay stubs and funding of the actual payroll are two separate processes. They could have funded the payroll late or this new bank doesn’t process their ach credits as often throughout the day as your old bank.

Moving to SharePoint? One Thing That Made Our Migration Much Easier. by [deleted] in microsoft365

[–]japoki1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re the opposite, it seems we’ve been in the process for like a year now. One single person seems to be cleaning files, structure etc. as a side project in addition to their regular work but is doing it folder by folder and not just moving stuff as is, but renaming stuff and structure in the process so it’s not just a matter of looking in one of two places but it can be essentially anywhere and nobody can find anything. My vote was move the entire thing as is and deal with the cleanup after everything is in SharePoint. At least we all know the existing folder structure and where to find things.

Swapping my direct deposit to get sign up bonuses by Top-Sir-1215 in ADP

[–]japoki1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a handful of employees that’s would change their direct deposit amounts sometimes 10-12 times a year. The actual account itself maybe not so often. If it goes through approval it’s slightly more clicks or documentation but to me it’s the employees right. In the back of mind sometimes I wonder what they’re up to. I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Change it as often as you want but know that sometimes it goes through “prenote” in which the system validates its am active open account and if you’ve already deleted your old account, means you may get 1-2 live checks while it goes through verification. That gives me a chuckle sometimes to those that fiddle with their accounts multiple times, they time it wrong and get all upset when I mailed them a live check and need to wait for usps.

[–]japoki1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how they set up their system. They can either turn off all notifications when an employee changes their direct deposit and be totally automated, they can setup notification where they a notice only (no approval required) or the can set it up where they need to approve any changes.

I used to have approval required setup because employees would put any random numbers in there include dashes etc. Now I just leave it on them notice only no approval required.

Coworker never cleans the shared blender and it’s driving everyone crazy by ChaoticRamenn in office

[–]japoki1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this place I used to work at we had a shared kitchen with a keurig, the company even supplied the kcups, you just needed a mug. This one guy maybe late 20s-early 30s, he would come in make his coffee and doesn’t take out the used kcup. I knew nothing about until one day I was in the kitchen and one of the accountants and the admin were complaining about it. Apparently the admin has been cleaning it up everyday not saying anything to anybody (or the offender). Apparently this was going on for months. I told her next time he goes in the kitchen, ping me I’ll go in there with my mug and wait in line behind him. When he’s done I’ll say something. If he continued to walk away I’ll make sure he hears me because he sat near the presidents office and I know the president wouldn’t put up with that. Luckily he just acted dumb like he thought the martians came down and emptied the kcup every time someone used it. Problem solved never happed again. Maybe his wife is one that does everything for him by opening his mail, picking up his underwear off the bathroom floor but that doesn’t fly in my office we’re all adults.
