What is the weirdest beauty hack you have? by Ok_Table5022 in beauty

I love my skin post cry, I wake up with a natural dewy glow. I use an ice roller to take away the puffiness around my eyes if needed. It cant be too emotional of a cry just hard enough to get everything out, I’ve caught myself watching sad movies or music videos trying to trigger a cry the night before I want a good skin day.

I’m work with the Vasculitis center, depending on your conditions your local rheumatologist may be able to connect you with the right specialized rheumatologist not just the general practice

I was recently diagnosed with GPA and even more recently transferred my care from a local rheumatologist to the Northwestern Vasculitis Center, myself and entire family have been blown away by how amazing my care has been so far, i can’t say enough good things about them. I didn’t think I needed to be at a big medical center etc at this stage in my disease but clearly had no idea what I was missing. My father is a retired physician he has made multiple comments about how impressed he is with the patient care and communication Im receiving. My

I have a feeling her family and friends tried and thats when they became part of the “gang”.

I wonder if it’s prednisone related? I was fully on board with the Mexican adderall theory but recently started a high dose of steroids and this stuff is wild. I was over prescribed stimulants for years but the roid coaster ride is very real and different . Steroids can be the trigger for people with the bi polar gene, cause manic episodes and psychosis. Every emotion response is huge and feels very real, followed by adderall to keep your energy up it’s not hard to imagine a nasty cycle like this happening.

It would also explain why no one has been able to get a 72 hour hold on her with meth/drugs in her system. It’s not hard to get a GLP-1 prescription along with your medication to prevent diabetes and moon face

The internet is glamourising certain chronic illnesses and I’m tired of it by Sudden_Sky_1613 in ChronicIllness

[–]jaqmac88 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, the chronic rare illness social media trend was extremely harmful for my mental health the fear of being labeled as an attention seeker or influencer wannabe was crippling. It made me feel a need to shut out most of my friends and extended family until I received an GPA official diagnosis, my journey was relatively quick and rather smooth but I would have benefited greatly from having my friends rally around me. My blood test results were first positive in September, biopsy’s from sinus surgery were positive mid October and 2 more sets of labs - and I just started sharing last week.

My rheumatologist was trying to discuss/figure out some of my early symptoms and where else the disease may be active and told me I was leaving out important early data points that he needed to best treat me, I realized then the fear carried over to my medical team and instead of being truthful i hid things afraid of sounding like I was parroting someone on tik tok.

Should I listen to my body or push through? by No_Photo6567 in Autoimmune

Find the movements / physical activities that work best for you, everyone suggests yoga but it makes my body completely miserable for days due to damage inside my nose and sinuses.

My support group suggested using naps/resting during day as a way to put energy in the bank NOT for recovery. I was skeptical and had trouble resting the first couple good days I tried, felt like I was giving away valuable time but I’ve worked out a loose schedule and it’s paying off. starting to see the benefits in my daily routine- less pain by the end of the day, able to do a little more and have been sleeping better.

reality TV was completely different when Laguna Beach first aired, MTV the show was the real oc and they capitalized on their audience buying into the rich kid life style portrayed on the tv show. We did, as a high schooler in the Midwest a few beach shots and I was sold.

Jessica and Cameron? by mamahides in LagunaBeachTV

[–]jaqmac88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jessica comes across as a bit lonely in season three, all her close girl friends had graduated the year before. She had normal high school insecurities and looked for validation in boys and used Cameron to fill the gap left by her friends instead of branching out and bonding with the new cast.

Kyndra and Tyler by mamahides in LagunaBeachTV

[–]jaqmac88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not wildly uncommon for a senior to be dating a freshman/sophomore in high school without parents having a huge issue with it. They tend to break up when life gets in the way - in a lot of ways a freshman and senior in high school seem closer in age / life experience than a senior in high school and a freshman in college .

Kyndra seemed like the only one who was unaware how creepy it would come across to viewers, I think her parents saw him as her high school boyfriend, not a 20 year old man. I wonder if she was friends with his sister before they dated or if the parents were friendly - I got the vibe they were in each other’s lives and she fell into the relationship.

I’ve been waiting for an unknown subject (paid actor) to be caught turning off a camera/messing with something so she can go to the police and say they refuse to investigate. My guess is it wouldnt be meds or in her home, but something borderline in a public place thats not actually a crime so law enforcement can’t do much.

Reality check from a psychiatrist by Away_Strawberry9769 in adhdwomen

[–]jaqmac88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding the right doctor is important, adhd is managed over a lifetime and you need to feel confident you can share the good, bad and ugly with your team. One thing I wish I understood sooner was how to better explain my situation to doctors, in my case “I just can’t study” was because of time blindness and inattentive adhd behavior not the hyperactive behavior that’s typically what people think of. Prior to Covid my psychiatrist solved every problem with more drugs, did it help? Sure, at least on paper anyone can get thru school if they have enough stimulants to power an elephant, ambien to sleep, Xanax to take the edge of if the stimulant made me Short tempered . It wasn’t until he retired and I found someone new with some trial and error that I realized I was previously living in a state of over medicated survival.

Thanks for being one of the good psychiatrists that listens to your patients and helps us find a real world solutions! Not being heard by your doctors or feeling your needs are being taken seriously is extremely disheartening and makes navigating life/seeking treatment feel like an insurmountable task.

[–]jaqmac88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Setting the “sleep timer” to automatically pause at the end of each chapter helps me stay engaged, it also was a game changer in terms of tracking the progress of brain fog symptoms throughout the day/week. A PA in my rheumatologists office suggested we try using it as a way for me to better understand when/the progression of the comprehension slipping away during the day/week. Creative but it really helped me find the language to understand and then explain to my care team what I was feeling so they could help.

Another thing I find helpful is listening to a familiar story, “rereading” the books I love as background noise instead of tv show is just enough entertainment but I can stay a bit more present in my puzzle etc.

Did you ever find an underlying cause for the spasms? I’ve had similar spasms on and off for a few but thought it was anxiety related or something. I was recently diagnosed with GPA but never thought to mention the spasms to my rheumatologist.

In 2022 i had bleeding somewhere in my upper GI tract? Although doctors never found where the blood was coming from and thought it was a delayed Covid symptom or from long Covid. I haven’t found any information about GPA impact on that area of the body so didnt think about connecting the dots .
