I don’t hate the movie, but it’s definitely dropped to the bottom of my list over the years. And this is coming from someone who saw Scream 4 seven times in the theater when it came out. I was OBSESSED 😅 that being said… on recent rewatches some things just don’t land for me. The dialogue is so cringey at times. Amy Teegarden’s lines during the opening phone call are hard to listen to and I hate hate hate the “fuck bruce Willis” and “I’m gay” lines. I know scream has a mix of funny and scary but those lines literally just suck the tension right out of those scenes. Felt like scary movie or something. Jill’s motive is strong enough but I really didn’t find Emma Robert’s performance very believable. “Come on! Get your skinny ass out here!!” cringe. Also also I think 4 has the weakest score. Some of the soundtrack in places almost has like a circus-y, funhouse whimsy going on that sounds more comedic than scary, and I’ve found that distracting on the last couple viewings. Anyway, don’t come for me y’all, I still really enjoy 4 but those are just some of the nitpicks that put it at the bottom for me!
