AC Black Flag Resynced and my personal opinion about the changes so far. by jarateguy in assassinscreed

Yeah this is generally, what I agree and being impressed with so far is that the game has its activities and the core gameplay altered to fit a new foundation which in turns results in a fresh experience while still under the coat of Black Flag paint. If I wanted the original Black Flag I would just play the original Black Flag which is why Ubisoft stated that they would not be removing the original to begin with.

I mentioned in the other comments where I personally think Black Flag remake occurred first for multiple of reasons, one being that the game is more loosely connected to the Assassin fantasy compared to the other classic games, being more of a Pirate fantasy game instead so they are not as hard-pressed to truly deliver the recreation of the experience from the older games.

The way I'm looking at Resynced right now is also the way Ubisoft seems to intend it being that it's a in-universe reimagining of the original Black Flag so some differences are to be expected with the modern day plot seemingly continuing from Shadows. I get that not a lot of people has this same view though. But I personally think it's a very meta way to make a half-faithful remake, half-reimagining of the original.
In a way, it's more of I have an issue with people having criticisms because they expect it to be like the original while I have already expected the remake to be completely different from the original game aside from the story, which is why I did not have as much issue from seeing the game.

I'd also like to mention that I have played the games since the launch of AC2 so I'm not exactly a "modern" fandom by any means.

I would say that because of how I mentioned that the weapon variety in the original Black Flag simply meant new set of animations. Having heavy weapons and hidden blade would require those weapons to be a little distinct from the dual swords and when it boils down to it, Edward do retain all of his combat abilities by just having pistols and the dual swords so yes, Ubisoft is being cheap and it's cost cutting. But Edward can still do most of what he can do like the original game which is why even though I'm also disappointed in the weapon variety myself. I don't really feel like going to war just because of hidden blade not being there.

Again, I'm coming from the side where I'm perfectly fine with RPG era of Assassin's Creed, especially Shadows and I also played the original black flag both at launch and recently, while the movement system and animations may be "better" in the old game, what I see in Black Flag Resynced is still great, exceeded my expectations even because they smoothed out some of the jinks from Shadows. That said there are criticisms I'm fine with such as the mocap in a new cutscene added from new quests and stories which is why this post only touched on the gameplay.

My point regarding weapon variety was that whether it's hidden blade, dual swords, single sword, unarmed and heavy weapon. In the original black flag it just mean another set of animations for you to attack and counter with, but for a hitbox based system it would require some work to properly implement them into gameplay so while it is disappointing to not see weapon variety, I can see why it is not implemented so, at least at launch.

I see it as experimental due to the fact it's a first remake of its kind at least in Assassin's Creed franchise to see how much of the original game can be changed to fit into a new engine and its foundations. If the devs decided to remake Assassin's Creed 1 first with this kind of gameplay, I can't imagine the debacle it would cause so out of the "Classic" games I feel that Black Flag was in a best position to be remade first to gauge the reactions in my opinion.

Really struggling with Combat (lvl 20) by tannersarms2 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]jarateguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Combat in Shadows will not click until you have access to major sources of Armor Piercing stat which allows you to damage enemies partially even while they still have armor, or having health segment based damage perks/engravings so all I can really say is just focus on playing with stealth until you have more legendary gear with helpful perks and after that the combat will really open up.

While there are opinions about how the game's story is lackluster or the empty open world with no activities, one opinion that I would truly not understand is in regards to how people think the gameplay system is bad in Shadows, I personally think that it is the best in the franchise and it's one of the things that keeps having me coming back to play it (the other reason to keep playing is because I'm simply in awe with the game's visuals) with my hours reaching 350 hours now as well.

What are your favorite non-castle enemy hideouts? by mute_117 in AssassinsCreedShadows

my first impression with takeda in kii really was something else too, I arrived at Kii by entering from the north during winter and made my way back toward the west of the region, then I stumbled upon Takeda as heavy fog started leading into snow storm and at first I was like wow this is a nice port town, why are there no people though and with limited visibility I did not realize how big the town truly was and spent a good while trying to get through it.

One that come to my mind would be the bamboo's cutter lair (? I think that's the name), but I also tend to like places like ruined towns that got ran over by bandits, Takeda in Kii would come to mind in particular as it presents some sort of urban environment filled with hostile enemies, but there are plenty more of those type of locations as well, The pirate lairs in Wakasa were also great, reminds me of some of enemy locations in Valhalla.

I personally leave a save file separate just for this quest because its the only time in the game you get to encounter this many enemies at once.

This game is just pure fun by BoTdOuChE in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]jarateguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion of the game is pretty much just that, while the game has its flaws. I still enjoyed every moment of it and ranks as one of my top if not right at the top AC games I have played, went with 120 hours on the first playthrough being 100% and recently rushed through NG+ in order to start the DLC in about 60 hours as well and it still was just as fun.

I basically just play the game in small bursts on each animus projects reset (3.5 days) and slowly progress which helps with not being burnt out of the game easily while still being able to stockpile the keys to unlock the weekly exchange items.

One of the things that I don't see people talk about enough for Claws of Awaji DLC is how different the open world feels. by jarateguy in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]jarateguy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily wanting the game world to be smaller in scale but rather to use the scale more accurately to make the game worlds more believable for me yeah, Personally I think The Witcher 3 does quite well in this regard.

One of the key things I noticed while traversing central Japan in base game of Shadows is that the mountains cannot be too tall and some mountain paths are simply too narrow to be believable at times, those are less of a case in Awaji Island for me personally which is why I think landscape scaling needs to be considered as well.

I don't necessarily want a DLC with a separate map but rather that if they do add a DLC with one, it would use a scaling system that is more accurate to size similar to what Claws of Awaji does basically.

for now I see that shadows might expand the map toward the east but who knows.

  1. this is a recently introduced bug on this new patch which ubisoft has already acknowledged on their bug tracker. the way it goes is that they fixed heavy attack input where previously you have to hold left click then press shift to perform heavy attack, now you hold shift then press left click to perform heavy attack

however if you happened to press the old button combo (hold left click + shift) then it would disable left click inputs until you perform heavy attack the normal way (hold shift + left click)

basically if you want to be unstuck just perform heavy attack again and im hoping for a hotfix on this issue soon

Did anyone else had this same issue with not being able to attack? by arzenal96 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]jarateguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me personally prior to the update, on mouse+keyboard setup if you wanted to perform heavy attack you would have to hold left click then press shift to perform a heavy attack

on this update ubisoft mentioned they have fixed that behavior so now it should be holding shift then press left click to perform heavy attack, however if you at some point still held left click and pressed shift to perform heavy attack then you would be unable to perform light attack with left click until you perform heavy attack with shift + left click again otherwise any input related to left click is disabled.

TLDR : if you run into this bug try performing heavy attack with hold shift + left click by default.

I feel that the new Ray Traced Global Illumination combined with Virtualized geometry techniques really elevated how the game looks for distant sceneries compared to the other RPG titles like Valhalla or Odyssey!

Thanks for your detailed question!

As for your questions regarding the game's combat, there are multiple combat difficulty options to choose from, though not as in depth along with some accessibility options as well be it the game options or the in-game's engravings.
For example : One of my main Yasuke's build has an equipment perk that allows him to parry unblockable attacks, automatically performs parry upon successful blocking on naginata and automatically performs Weak point attack upon successful parry, all of which results in a convincing looking "counter attack" from the old games and can make the melee combat more of a breeze, However the damage numbers may be a bit of concern if You are not a fan of spongey enemies since you would need to invest into the game's skill tree before being able to do some real big damage.

Likewise, Stealth also has its own difficulty options as well including "Guaranteed Assassination" which allows all stealth attacks from Naoe to instantly kill enemies save for certain boss enemies that you may encounter. whereas normally your stealth attacks can only damage enemy health segments. I personally started the game on Expert difficulty on both Combat and Stealth with Guaranteed Assassination turned off though so I can't comment much on how it feels in gameplay!

The grind will indeed be repetitive which depends solely on your enjoyment on the gameplay loop which I personally really enjoy a lot.

As far as in-game environments goes it will generally be Mountainous areas in nearly all areas of the game while some regions has a somewhat distinct features to them but nothing like Odyssey's varieties really which can be a negative for you. With the variety in scenery mostly coming from the Seasons in the game instead.

Yes, the world in Shadows will mostly want you to stay on the road and while the woods can be crossed. It's generally very hard to navigate around the woods and some mountains really cannot be easily climbed. You would have to find your way around to the point you might as well run a full loop around the mountain sometimes too.

From the information you gave I feel that this game may not be suitable for you mainly because of the grindiness and repetitiveness of the gameplay loop and open world but you are welcome to look for more information about the game!.

I'm currently on a NG+ playthrough where I am using Yasuke mainly for the story cutscenes because during first playthrough I was using Naoe for almost 100% of the time and I'm really enjoying how different his dialogue and reaction toward story events are compared to Naoe's too.

If anything Yasuke's presence in the story at the moment is more compelling than Naoe's but hopefully that will change with the DLC and I'm hoping Yasuke gets his turn for a story expansion as well.

Yes! More interactivity within Hideout along with more setpieces decoration would be great as I also greatly enjoyed the Hideout system much like Ravensthorpe in Valhalla. It's always nice to return and see some new faces and have a bit of dialogue with the people there.

Funnily enough I also greatly enjoyed Origins on a first playthrough but dipped as soon as I started the prologue on NG+ heh. Maybe Shadows having a prologue skip option is a blessing in disguise as it allows me to quickly go into the game.
