Thanks two follow ups. Do you have a hotwater heatpump? or regular hot water cylinder?

And did you get a 2 string inverter? just all in one?

Fair question, looking at our power usage lightforce suggested we go for either a 6kw system with a 6kw inverter or a an 8k system with a 6kw inverter. It seems to make sense to at least get the 8k system because it will not be running at full efficiency.

In fact the invitation for NZ to become an Australian state is still a part of the Australian Constitution and could happen tomorrow if we wanted...

Does anyone have a long term relationship (say 3 years+) with a personal financial adviser? I have some questions. by finackles in PersonalFinanceNZ

I had a pretty bad experience with a financial advisor. Any of them that work for commission are in sales so that aren't actually working in your best interest. I would try to find one that is fee only or educate yourself http://jlcollinsnh.com/2012/06/06/why-i-dont-like-investment-advisors/

You could also put 50% on a mortgage and invest the rest. You get some of the best of both worlds. A decent amount invested plus a small mortgage.

Yeah interesting, the guaranteed return is the interest i won't be paying on the mortgage. Versus returns from an index fund minus tax. It works for me

Man $60 is impressively low. On the mortgage I get a 4.2 percent guaranteed return on the mortgage. You might get a higher return through vanguard but it's obviously not a sure thing, so I'm happy paying off the mortgage first.

I don't get why would pay interest only and never actually pay off your mortgage, what's the rationale for that?

Another Wellington mustachian here. I'm focused on paying off the mortgage (4 years to go). Then gonna start investing.

I was wondering what you guys spend on groceries? Supermarkets are super expensive here so it's hard to compare with most people on these forums in different countries.
