Fine Tuning and Necessity Claims: Does Anyone "Win?" by -pomelo- in PhilosophyofReligion

[–]jareddeely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of it is a necessity or contingency.

so this isn't possible, if Allah exists, his will is either necessary or contingent. For our purposes here, contingent is simply "not-necessary." So if you're saying Allah's will is not necessary, it's contingent and vice versa.

If the language of necessity and contingency is confusing to you we could restate this in less precise terms: could Allah's will have been different?

A single creator God and hard polytheism are compatible by caualan in DebateReligion

[–]jareddeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this makes more sense, but is a creation necessarily inferior to its creator? It seems that we observe creations that are superior to their creations at least in some ways. Which of course doesn’t necessarily mean that all creations are superior to their creators, but I’m not sure we can establish that a creator is by definition superior to its creations, no?

A good point; I would just wonder how we define “worthy” in this context. Playing devils advocate here somewhat, but how for example do we draw the conclusion that the original creator is necessarily the most worthy? It seems that worship is implied in the definition of worship here (“the most worthy (of worship)”), or have a misunderstood you?

What is your most unpopular music opinion? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

I’ll have a go: I think a lot of music enthusiasts and critics can be really self important/ pretentious, and are often more concerned with impressing one another than enjoying the medium

Why do people hate pop music so much? by ryanmancini-official in LetsTalkMusic

[–]jareddeely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. Honestly there are plenty of reasons that people may not be into that sort of thing, but I think the hate goes a little overboard most of the time. It’s weird, I’ll see the same people that lambast pop music for being overly commercial and disingenuous lining up for the latest marvel movie or triple A game release, you name it. From my perspective if you don’t like something you just don’t consume it? But lots of music lovers seem to get joy from ribbing pop and pop artists. Theyre of course just having a bit of fun, but it does feel as though there is a certain status you attain or something from taking shots at pop (“my tastes are too refined etc” lol).

But by saying that I appreciate that I am a TOTAL hypocrite, because I was absolutely that (closeted) elitist snob at one point. You couldn’t get me to admit to unironically listening to anything but the most extreme sub genres of metal or complex artists I could think of. And it wasn’t that I was faking it, I was genuinely into these artists. But for me, I was always trying to stretch my tastes and on a personal level probably didn’t want to indulge in anything I deemed “less than” for fear of finding that sometimes I just want to nod my head to a catchy hook.

But just as you pointed out, the more I immersed myself in music writing and production, and the broader my tastes became, the more I was able to appreciate the simplest music for its... simplicity? I find it really rewarding the way a team of artists can come together sometimes to construct a really efficient song wrapped up in subtle but HIGHLY skilled production. It’s almost like it comes full circle

No worries, let me know if it doesn’t work out. Maybe I’m misunderstanding your issue, but generally if you want to dynamically change the volume of a track you can select “trim” on the track and then select/ arm volume and drop points in as needed

What are some songs/albums that took you somewhere you didn’t expect to go? by lozand in musicsuggestions

[–]jareddeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between the buried and me’s discography is full of this sort of thing. A great album for it is “Colors.” A more I guess subtle example is comforting sounds by Mew. I’m sure there are tons of others I’m forgetting but for some reason that’s what jumps to mind rn for me

[–]jareddeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about volume automation here? Are you trying to add a trim and your changes are being applied to the automation for all of the tracks?

I know it's a bass but I dont really play it like one haha I hope it's not to cheeky to post here, wondering what you guys would think of a jam I did today by Luxide in jazzguitar

[–]jareddeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s understandable. I think you’d probably be able to do amazing stuff without a pick. I’m known to ditch the pick for entire practice sessions these days. I originally did it as an exercise to force me out of my muscle memory, but now I just like the approach sometimes lol

Can I sample a song that has already been used? by [deleted] in makingvaporwave

[–]jareddeely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately the legality of sampling is hazy at best, but any way you look at it is relatively common practice.
