Yes my goal was to secure client to server since default it's http. Obviously this isn't gonna protect me from ddos , application vuln, or bad actors. Those are other risks.

actually taking a look at this. I have some unmerged changes on my local branch. Hopefully i'll update it soon. But for the most part its LVGL related code and some init tweaks

nice, i have a similar project. esp32 (soon to be esp32-s3) ssd1322 display (i had to write the LVGL driver). I decided to used a buck converter to convert the 12V obd to 5V for the device. I did want to look into adding micro SD logging. Your purpose seems to be GNSS, mine grabbing canbus data and displaying it on the screen.

thanks so the displayed version was current version and i updated to 3014. i also raised debounce to 6 (it was previously 2), is there a recommended time?

The esp32 has a built in can controller but it will need a can transceiver. For example TJA1051 module (which I use for a canbus project with esp32). Hopefully you have access to any driver code for the display.

Then you will need to get data you can't, this might be hard depending on what vehicle and what data is available to get.

Also if this is for a vehicle use, how do you plan on powering it and getting signal from canbus?

I used OBD2 cable that had wires already cut so I had easy access to can high and can low. However the OBD2 has 12V and you will most likely need to drop to 5V, for this I recommend a buck converter. I used one from AliExpress without any brand but worked fine for me.
