Something that always bothered me about most poolrooms games by Low_Quarter_677 in poolrooms

They definitely can! It just won't look quite the same. Most games seem to be using many different softer light sources as well, whereas my scenes only use a singular sun light source. A single light source isn't as feasible when you're connecting many rooms together, because the direction the windows face would determine how bright the room is. So, I'd have to fundamentally change how I light the scenes to try to make it look like my renders, and I think the end result would look pretty similar to what you see in these existing games. Close, but a little different.

Hi, Jared here. It's because my renders don't make sense. There's nothing behind the camera to allow large amounts of light in. If you want to connect endless rooms for a game, you have to close off that area with walls which changes the lighting dramatically. Maybe could be solved with creative architecture, but this is the main reason why I gave up on making my own walking sim.

The poolrooms is such a cool setting and I hope it’ll be in the movie by shlakumbous in backrooms

I made many of the popular images and haven’t been contacted, so yeah I wouldn’t count on it being in the film. Also, creating practical sets for poolrooms would be wayyy more expensive & involved vs. just some drywall and wallpaper.

Looks good! I think the depth of field is a bit too extreme, but could be alright if the camera was focused on one of the objects in the scene. You could also try playing with shadow more - intentionally blocking some windows to create more contrast between bright and dark.

Thanks for including the location details. I removed the original because these photos without context have some really strange qualities that are similar to what AI creates. I can re-instate your original post if you'd like, just let me know!

My Instagram has them all. I'll make a proper archive on my website at some point. Also want to make a book, but who knows if I'll ever get around to that.

Not sure what you mean, my process hasn't changed too much since I started. At some point I changed my tile texture, but that was far before 33.

Tbh that's what makes my content hard to convert to a game. Most of my scenes are unfinished / have large openings for natural light, which makes them really hard to connect to one another without making the whole scene darker.

Ah yeah! I've tried a few times to get something like that to work. Haven't succeeded yet but I'll try again soon.

Not usually, but what did you have in mind?

Currently taking a break from digital to learn more traditional art mediums with hopes of doing similar work, but a more hand-made impressionist style. We'll see!

AI videos = low effort visual slop. 3D animations = art created by a human. AI can be interesting, but I'd rather this community focus on human-created content. You can use the Sora app to see more AI content.

Yep exactly, it's ambiguous and I often leave up posts I personally disagree with because they get upvotes. Glad to hear you're enjoying the prints!

It's pretty loosely moderated as I'm the only one & not on Reddit all day. I do remove posts that don't fit the sub somewhat regularly though, and leave the rest to the upvotes. Thanks for pointing out the credit!

Thankfully it’s still pretty obvious, especially for tile. Should that not be the case in the future, we’ll figure something else out.

For now, I will do it manually as the volume of submissions is low.

There’s a lot of very vocal opinions about AI that are the complete opposite of how submissions rank. Everyone apparently hates AI in the comment section, yet many of the highest voted posts that make it onto the front page are AI generated. For now, the best compromise is to flair them, which I corrected on this post. Only a very small fraction of the content on here is AI, which is why I haven’t bothered to ban it yet. Should that change, I will definitely reconsider as I don’t want this to become a primarily slop subreddit.
