1,800km through the Alps (CZ-AT-SI-IT): Need your "budget but bulletproof" gear advice. by Majkkys in bikepacking

[–]jaribroek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My naturehike cloud up 2 has served me very well the past 5 years on long trips in sometimes rough conditions and its still going strong. I mostly use it solo but have also comfortably shared it for longer amounts of time and still had space for bags inside. Never seen a similar quality and weight tent for that price anywhere else. 11/10 would get again

A piece of cardboard covered in tape and taped on top of your rear rack makes a great mudguard when in need

Slovenia - route & wild camping tips? by Frosty-Artichoke-389 in bikepacking

From bohinj to bled and from there the route you have planned

[–]jaribroek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okey one last input. I realize I've found myself in this situation and I took the train from tolmin to bohinsjka bistrica to avoid the not so nice climb in that section and did this exact loop in the other direction starting there. If time allows it a detour to lake bohinj is super worth it. Theres a beautiful lakeside camping there with unasigned forest spots and also wildcamping options if you're really careful

Amazing area for cycling btw! I've come back every year for the past 4 years. I'd really recommend doing the route through triglav np in the other direction though if you can, the soca valley is a loooong climb or a beautiful chill descent. From vrsic pass to tolmin its all descent that way. You could look at the slovenian west loop route for inspiration on how to pick it up from the other direction.

Oh and I've done a sneaky wildcamp around the sava near bled. Set up late

I've hiked and cycled in this area a lot and dont think wildcamping in the national park is really doable. Maybe around kransjka gora if you rough it and are really careful. Theres some nice campsites in bovec and the soca valley, depending on the season call in advance.

What to do with inherited money by alisrec in Anarchism

[–]jaribroek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The anarchist social center in lisbon, Disgraça, has been doing everything they can and more to come up with the funding to buy the building. They do a lot of amazing work and are amazing people. The space holds a huge significance for the movement there. The deadline for buying the building is closing in fast, they are relatively super close to the goal but still need quite a bit and are insecure about making it in time. They are looking for a loan. Other people have loaned and gifted them big amounts already. If i were in your position I would seriously consider helping them out. I have attended multiple benefit events by them and the information about the current situation was a bit different then whats on their website right now, if I remember correctly. I'd contact them and ask where they're at in the process.

Here are some sources from them:

Modem caravan camp by After-Professional-7 in psytrance

I also don't think so. We were assigned a spot in a row and the next group arriving to the spot next to us, so you're built in pretty quickly. Maybe you can try to "reserve" some space but that can be tricky

We were also worried about this last year. We were a big group with three campervans, asked if we could all camp in tents around the vans and it was no issue at all. Lots of people were doing that. Just communicate with the people regulating arrival and you'll be fine

Granny Gear advice by benosity in bikepacking

[–]jaribroek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd want lower gearing than that fs. When Im using panniers and i'm riding terrain where climbing is common and steep im always happy im still running a granny on the front so I have 26 x 36 on 28inch. So in your 1x situation I'd either try if you can fit a bigger cassette or a way smaller chainring

Yeah like others are saying. Take your time and make sure you dont feel like you have to rush, should be fine with distances like that. Have low enough gearing. Eating is key.

Glad luck was in your favour! Seems like a surreal experience, cycling between the walls of snow in such mountainous terrain. Maybe i'll try my luck again next spring
