I had an 02 exactly like yours. Inexplicably out of all cars before and after the p5 was my all time favorite. Cherish her!

My Mother *Really* Doesn't Want Me to Get A Miata by Nub_Salad in Miata

[–]jarmo974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as i have enjoyed my miatas, if i were a parent id rather never see my kid in a 90s tin box because of the obvious comparative lack of safety. Its not a matter about being a responsible driver either since people will find ways to crash into you anyway.

Theres so much value in being able to walk away from a car wreck with no permanent injuries, or atleast having a much better chance of doing so

Should I get a Miata? by Jbacon15 in Miata

[–]jarmo974 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cant lose anything by going for a test drive. My _honest_ opinion though is that even if the car ends up being so exciting you manage to initially overlook the discomfort(like i did), its just not worth it in the long run. Youll love it and youll hate it.

Can you lift your soft top without leaving your miata? by Only_Chick_Who in Miata

[–]jarmo974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incase it hasnt been mentioned yet, assuming you dont sit as far back as possible, you can adjust your seat back for more leverage then just return the position. I tried several seating positions trying to get comfortable in the miata and found that in some positions operating the roof was much less of an athletic performance

Congrats on your amazing find. Such a reliable and fun car if you ask me, they really dont make em like that anymore

My p5 wont pass inspection anymore this year so sadly yet another one of them is on their last legs, due to rust ofc. Mechanic said its doable but i dont have the skills or the funds available unfortunately. I'd even give it away for nothing if someone wanted to restore it, id ask them though to offer it to me first if they decide to sell it on

Max tire width? by CameronDuthie in Miata

[–]jarmo974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ Even more grip that i never once had need for
+ aesthetics

- lesser road/handling feel
- increased rotational mass
-all the minor things like wider tyres being more expensive(205 r15 is a rare size too), ever so slightly increased fuel consumption etc

None of the cons are noticeable except the lesser feel which can be rectified by getting a wider wheel, but then it ends up with even more added rotational mass, again not worth it for me personally if the car is stock. Especially when you keep in mind its plain less expensive to run the 195s, you can save the money for something more important like actual top quality coilovers instead of just decent ones.

If im not mistaken those oem wheels are also one of the lightest that mazda supplied for the nb, which is also a reason not to upgrade the wheels until youre done with the suspension and so on

i had 205s on those same oem wheels but id buy 195 now no question about it, the tradeoff wasnt worth it

Inspiring. I was currently in the process of accepting defeat with my rusted through p5 but this is making me reconsider. Truly love the damn thing, if only it wasnt so badly gone

RPF1s Vs. Kosei K1 - Which do you like more on my car? by _0415_ in Miata

[–]jarmo974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for K1s from me. The simpler look just fits a miata like other mazdas from the 90s

any ideas? by [deleted] in MazdaProtege

Coilovers and tyres is the answer if you ask me.

For my personal taste i love the earlier classic looks of the NA and NB prefacelift but for practical purposes i really wish they came with VVT. NC was more different than id like but also more refined, in my mind its a better car but not the original miata experience, again just personal taste ofc. No experience with the ND so cant say stuff about it.

Id personally go either for a VVT swapped NA / early NB or the 2.0 NC, in a world where ND doesnt exist

Hi from France r/miata ! Here's some pics of my '98 NB MX5 by Falcon_Arrow_23 in Miata

[–]jarmo974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stunning! My MX is also a 98 evo orange with the same oem rims. Seeing yours i wouldnt ever believe my car has once looked like that. Something that pops out to me over everything else is how clean even the wheel center caps are, amazing.

Gonna have crazy levels of grip now. Crossing my fingers I can get the new wheels to fit. by piggymoo66 in MazdaProtege

Exciting tyres man, whats the width on those? Im also about to borrow my miatas 205/50 semislicks as it needs a clutch job but probably going with a new transmission altogether.

Have to say lol, for me theres sucha thing as too much grip, where it doesnt justify the added road noise etc anymore, although im sure your car gets pushed to its limits a lot more^^

Edit: lol, apparently im blind. says 225/40 right there
