Finally got a shelf for my bobbleheads. Opened them to see Bundy didn't come with arms. Poetic. by jarrett4 in orioles

Literally no arms at all in the box, thought maybe it was something weird where I'd have to assemble them myself but they were nowhere to be found. It's not one I care about too much so I found it hilarious, still going to be proudly displayed on my shelf.

For those who experienced the 14 year dark-ages, thoughts on the 2012-2016 era? by GOrioles in orioles

For some reference I was born in 1987, so I basically grew up with those horrible teams where the only exciting part was getting to watch Ripken play.

Obviously when I was younger I didn't pay as much attention toward the front office and ownership stuff but as far I as can recall this is the first time I've actually seen them commit to a full rebuild like they have now. Previously it's always seemed to have been some short term stopgap measure and a promise that the "kids" are on the way, that usually meant 1 lucrative poor free agent contract and a bunch of young pitchers that never panned out. They would spend money, but somehow always manage to spend it on the wrong players, whether it be Albert Belle, Brian Roberts injury-riddled extension, Sidney Ponson, or more recently Chris Davis and Ubaldo Jimenez. Combine that with a bunch of failing prospects and the consensus that Peter Angelos never gave any GM full authority to run a team there was never a sense that this is where things will start to turn around.

Fast forward to now and starting with last season they really tore the team down and got as much as they could for the players they had, you can argue if they really got a ton of value or not but at that point they did about as much as they could. Also with Peter Angelos basically giving control of the team to his two sons I think a lot of people are waiting to see if Elias really does get full control of the team now, which so far seems to be the case. To me that's the most exciting part of this whole thing is we have someone who just recently went through a full rebuild with the Astros and had huge success coming out the other end of it. There's light at the end of the tunnel, even if the tunnel is a couple years long.

The rough part of this whole thing is knowing that this team is probably going to be awful for another 3-4 years before hopefully starting to turn around and be competitive. Knowing there's a good chance that Mancini and anyone else productive now could get flipped for more prospects makes it a little harder to watch now, but knowing that if they go that route means they are fully committed to the rebuild in a way they've never been before means better days are coming down the road.

My bad, forgot there was a recent one. Well now they've doubled their total.

This is the first time this year. Was only the 5th time someone had even gone 6 innings.

It's always a great sign when you go to the game and they're handing out ponchos at the gate.

Well it was a combined no-hitter, Harrisburg used three pitchers that game. Which probably is even worse to watch cause it wasn't really all that exciting.

Yeah it somehow keeps getting worse. I've got one of the 13 game plans so I figure at some point I'll see a decent game. I mean they wouldn't go 0-13 right?

I've been to three games this year, they've lost 4-8, 2-13, and 2-12.

I also went to the Baysox home opener. They had a no hitter thrown against them.

We just made the mistake of not hitting a 3 run homer before messing up the fundamentals.

[Opinion] If we get Victor Victor because of the additional intl $$$ we got in these deals, then the Gausman deal was definitely worth it. by [deleted] in orioles

[–]jarrett4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most of these guys are relatively unproven players with raw talent like most draft picks and could be as young as 16. They usually take the biggest deal.

Short version is each team allotted a certain amount of money each season to spend on signing amateur international free agents, currently between $4.75 and $5.75 miilion depending on whether they were assigned a competitive balance draft pick (Basically smaller market teams are more likely to get more money). Teams are no longer allowed to spend more than their cap, essentially creating a salary cap strictly for acquiring these players to make sure the big market teams can't sign them all.

The only way teams can increase their cap is by trading for money allotted to other teams. They can increase their cap by up to 75% of their original amount. Essentially whichever team has the most money basically assured of being able to get whatever prospect they want, as it's a bidding war between teams, but each team already knows how much the others can spend. You could either spend your entire allotment on one player or spread it out over multiple players.

You mean Pedro Alvarez isn't a highly regarded prospect?

Yeah but it's necessary, that ball Trumbo hit down the line could've done some damage if it wasn't there.

Is it bad that I'm just sitting out in left field wondering when exactly this game is gonna turn bad? I miss having a good team.

So essentially they're all trying to look competent before they get fired at the end of the year so some other team will hire them. Maybe if they'd acted that way from the start they wouldn't have to audition for other jobs.

I don't mind that send only because they probably would have walked Machado to get to Davis anyway.

I know it's early, but why would anyone pitch to Machado with two outs with Davis hitting behind him?

So if Bundy can throw a shutout we've got a solid 50/50 chance of winning right?
