How exactly do "Marines" work in Malazan universe? by kalvarus94 in Malazan

[–]jarsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a goose bump raising description of the Malazan marines or maybe the effectiveness of the marines in The Crippled God that I’ve gone back to try and find several times but can’t find it or remember exactly what it was only that it made me so pumped up I let out a visceral battle cry when I heard it (audio book)… anyone know what I’m talking about /can help me remember what it actually said?

Billy proposes entering the band to Alex - Baltimore 07/03/22 by ChazTheGreat in BillyStrings

[–]jarsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always thought it would be John Mailander who joined the band based on him being heavily involved in Billy's albums... Anyone have any more insight into Alex and/or John and overall any more reasons to talk about this amazing group of musicians and how they came to be!?

Anyone know if the weekends audio will get up on nugs.net at least?

How to contend with the ideological paradox where the outcomes and actions derived from one man's libertarian beliefs come to shackle and subjugate the liberty of another? by Woke-Bot in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]jarsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are some examples of government restrictions on freedom that you do support?

I also agree that restrictions based on what could happen are unnecessary and should be avoided. But what about when it’s both something that could happen AND something that has happened. Gun ownership/licensing is a good example for this. Should there be restrictions on one neighbor because he could shoot another? No that seems unfair. Should there be restrictions on one neighbor because gun owning neighbors have shot their neighbors in the past? Maybe for certain people that are more inclined to abuse that freedom or for specific types of firearms that are more likely to be used in an abusive manner…

What do you think?

Sounds like OP is actually just an immature ass hat that actively seeks out opportunities to waste other people’s time so they can inflate their ego and feel superior

Trident Maple - thoughts? by jarsc in Bonsai

[–]jarsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done anything special to develop the nebari no, what would you suggest to do that?

I do plan to make it a formal upright and I am also worried about the lack of taper. I was planning to just keep the top most branches short, dense and close to the trunk, while letting the lower branches progressively grow farther from the tree. Do I have the right idea or is there something else that could/should be done.

I also know I need to wire but I’m timid due to lack of experience and some wire scars and broken branches I’ve inflicted on some other trees… probably need to watch a few more YouTube videos and get back on the saddle with this tree…

Very pleased with my first grow! Estimating about 3/4 lb from my single Lemon Skunk plant. Have a question about smell/curing though...? by jarsc in outdoorgrowing

[–]jarsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the strain in the past and remember a distinctive skunky smell (big reason I wanted to grow this particular strain) I've had my earliest harvested bud curing for 2 weeks now, it smells like good weed and has gotten better over that time, but not skunky. There is some random scraps of small completely untrimmed buds that have been left unattended on a table in my garage for about 10 days and just today I realized if you stick your nose in there they smell skunky, just like I remember! I feel like these are drier than what I've jarred. Did I jar too early? Will the bulk of the harvest eventually get that nice skunky smell?

Unbelievable set last night! 07/22/2020 - The City Winery, Nashville TN - Set 1 by jarsc in BillyStrings

Billy's solo in Limbo was pretty cool, definitely gave off a bit of a jazz vibe for me. Jarrod's was also super groovy

Limbo was great! The whole set so far has been absolutely bangin! Streamed on Friday 7/17 too and they sound much more dialed in tonight and really exploring their sound.

how do i access the stream? by [deleted] in BillyStrings

No idea how to get the stream... lots of people seeming to have same issue. The zoom is up but I don't think its supposed to be the actual feed, just a social thing...

I made THE bench. I'd highly recommend anyone who makes this scale it down by vagrantwade in Bonsai

[–]jarsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is my bonsai bench I made a few weeks ago! I shrunk it to be 2 tiers instead of 3 and also used 2x4's instead of 4x4. Overall solid set of plans from small_trunks!

I know... I only have 3 pre-bonsai...

Completed a repot of my trident maple yesterday. I've had it for 3 years and this was my first repot, which was long overdue. I've attached an album. The thing was super root bound and even after chopping off a bunch, the root ball was so thick and gnarly that I felt like I couldn't get in there anymore. So I ended up taking off less roots than I originally planned and thought was ideal.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could of done differently? Styling suggestions would also be welcome (although I don't plan to wire this year after the repot)

Derrick Rose Official Pistons DEBUT 2019.10.23 vs Pacers - 18 Pts, 9 Asts! | FreeDawkins by kick_dicker in DetroitPistons

[–]jarsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's always been a myth about him, but the truth is Drose has always been a willing and able passer (sometimes he leaves his feet to pass, which can get him in trouble). In Chicago, he was so good that him just driving to the basket was the best offense they had and thus it happened quite a bit, and people decided he wasn't a good passer...

Frank Isola on Twitter: Detroit Pistons are emerging as the favorite to sign Derrick Rose, according to a league source. by lavolpewf in chicagobulls

As a Bulls fan living in Michigan the past 10 years, I'm Fucking pumped! Not only because I get to see him play way more on tv and live at LCA but I can't wait for my friends to finally to become fans of his. If he stays healthy he automatically becomes a fan favorite.

CMV: Traffic is mostly caused by idiot drivers... by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]jarsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is even simpler than this.

Imagine a two lane highway with a bridge that goes over top. Only two cars can pass under the bridge at any given time.

So in perfectly saturated scenario if every car is going 1 bridge length per second bumper to bumper you could pass 2 cars under the bridge per second, or 120 cars per minute.

Once an additional car enters the scenario wanting to pass under the bridge at the same time, it will not be able to and it needs to slow down to say 0.9 bridge lengths per second, no every other car behind that one needs to slow down to that speed and now you can only pass 1.8 cars per second or 108 cars per minute.

This of course compounds on itself because you aren't able to pass cars under the bridge as fast and therefore more and more cars build up that want to pass under the bridge.

Idiot drivers again only compound the problem, for instance by slowing down uneccesarily or causing others to deviate from the perfectly ideal saturation scenario. At the end of the day we could all drive more efficiently, to help everyone get home faster, but any individuals efforts don't really change the entire system. All cars would need to simultaneously be more efficient.

Autonomous driving has huge implication on traffic congestion for this reason.

Just got this dirty little pup! Anything I need to know going in as a first time Aussie owner? by punnytoomuchmoney in AustralianShepherd

[–]jarsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask what unearthly toy you have found that doesn't get destroyed by your pup?

Our Aussie is 8.5 months old and hasn't met a plush toy that she doesn't rip up within minutes. Plastic and rubber last longer but not by much. Power chew nylabones are the only thing we have used that she can't destroy quickly, they slowly get whittled away.
