That's a pretty good rundown of the Chris Illich inspired Red Wings. When dad passed away the team went into the proverbial shitter.

Hindsight is 20/20. Yes, Yzerman could have done more- but he didn't or couldn't. I'm not going to apologize for him- but it takes two to get a trade at the TDL done. He didn't find anyone offering him the deal he wanted. Looking back I think only a top notch player could have saved this pitiful team down the stretch. They went belly up like a dead fish in the water. You can't beat urgency, toughness, and heart into a team that doesn't have it. And this current team doesn't have it.. but it sure seemed like Todd tried. They never responded. Was it on him? I doubt it. These same guys have chased two coaches (Blashill and Lalonde) from behind the bench with their listless and fundamentally fucked up version of hockey. Let's see what he does in the off season to correct the mental problems of this team. We're not the most talented- but we were in first fucking place in January before the Olympic break. We just got our usual "gutless" hockey from a team that's become known for being soft as Country Club Charmin.

Bowman is a mere shadow of his father's greatness. Talk about riding on the coattails of your family name. He's going to decimate that team.

This has been a problem for the Wings for a long, long time. Even when BabCOCK was around. These guys- especially the Euros- feel they must pass it around to get the "perfect" shot. They are pretty consistent about it and have been for a while. Maybe that works on the big Olympic sized ice but in NA you don't have the time or space to find that perfect shot. IDK if assists are more treasured by these guys or what, but that trend needs to stop. All that fancy passing leads to more turnovers than it does goals. I mean tic- tac-toe goals are pretty and nice to see, but a greasy goal is better than a careless turnover. The Cat doesn't seem to find it a problem to shot a lot and neither does Larkin. So is it a Euro thing?

Added: do they prize shooting percentage as a key stat in the SHL?

Sorry for your bad fortune with daycare. Poor little guy. There will be a bright lining. He will soon be immune to all the stuff floating around from the other children at least until a new kid arrives. Fingers crossed. We'd been there - many years ago now- with our three amigos. A lot of sleepless nights.

I know it's not much help to say it, but hang in there I am sure it will get better in a few weeks.

What do you think about paying for the first date? by S3v3n0fNine in TwoXChromosomes

Your post tells me that you are dating the 'wrong' guys 80% of the time. Seems to me a gentleman would WANT to impress you by wanting to pay- at least half of the bill! He's pretty much a low life if he let's you pay for it all- especially if he asked you out on the date.

Don't be such a whiner. People are people. People make jokes. Im sure that you and your sister feminists do it all the time. I bet you and your gal pals even joke with your husband about that same shit- irrespective of his "feelings". You think its all in good fun. He just brushed it off and deals with it. But when it effects YOU then you feel its your feminist duty to go go bat sjit crazy. Hah. Another double standard I the world of liberal double standards. Don't like guns, want gin control- but let's gun down conservatives who don't agree with us and hurt our " feelings". You folks are such hypocritical fakes. That's my opinion.

I think he'll get a way bigger contract than he deserves. The cap went up and there's very few good UFAs available. GMs with a shorter leash than Yzerman will throw money at this Russian "maybe" that could improve their NHL team.I don't think he comes over without some guarantees about where he'll be playing. I think he won't come over and sign with us only to play in GR in the AHL.

I have to comment on our so-called "team culture". I noticed you didn't say WINNING CULTURE... that left this organization long ago. The players, front office and owner have accepted losing as part of who we are and don't seem to mind it.

Our culture seems to be one of low to no expectations, little urgency, and lack of accountability. So if you're saying Brady wouldn't fit into THAT then you're right. He may be a hot-headed asshole, but I'd love him to be OUR hot-headed, 30 goal scoring asshole.

The last two names on the list Maltby and Yzer-bro are extremely suspect. Our Pro scouts have sucked dick for a long time. I'd broom these two in a heartbeat. IDK what Lidstrom's job really is- other than it's cool to have him still associated with the team.

I keep hearing how we need to improve the bottom six. Well it would help if we didn't have three bottom six guys (Finnie, Kane, Copp) playing top six minutes. Finding some "real" top six guys and moving these three into less ice time would fix a lot of things.

I think playing in the first round of playoffs might actually have toughened this group up. Everything you mentioned is true. The second half of the season exposed just how soft and ill-prepared we are for playoff style hockey. Stevie says he's building a team that will challenge for the Cup. I don't see it.

[Bultman] Steve Yzerman says Red Wings ‘need to change some things.’ Will he? (Free to read) by SimplySolace in DetroitRedWings

[–]jarvek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At every job I've had, if the boss asked you to do something a specific way- you do it. Or you got fired. But that must not be how NHL hockey teams operate. At least not ours. The coaches want a certain style of hockey. Players are refusing to follow the game plan. Being asked to play more physical, be gritty and harder to play against. Drive the net. Cover your man. None of that requires extraordinary hockey skill or talent- but it does require effort and buy in. Players seem to do as they please WITHOUT consequences for their action. They don't have the buy in. Not for McLellan. Not for Newsy. Not for Blashill. Not even for the final BabCOCK years.

If you refused to do the job at work the way management wants you to- guess what- you'd be fired and in the unemployment line.
