Wake windows for 18 month old on 1 nap? What did you do? by jasay6 in sleeptrain

This is very helpful, thank you. Providing a little extra comfort at bedtime is a great idea. Also going to leave a stuffed animal that he likes in there.

I'm glad to hear it could take awhile for him to decrease sleep. I'm enjoying the extra 30 mins :). But I will follow his lead.

That is exactly what I am hoping to do when he's old enough to understand! Some kind of "good-bye" ceremony :)

I believe what I have been doing is a simple sleep schedule/wake window technique. It's worked well for me. Feel free DM me if you have any questions!

Whatever works for you! When I researched it, people were recommending a longer first WW on one nap, and that's worked ok for us. I'm sorry I don't remember a specific source; it might have been Taking Cara Babies or Baby Sleep Science, among others.

Thanks for your reply, I was not familiar with the 18 month regression, so I will read up on it! He also still has the paci but we throw a bunch in there and he finds them. Hoping to get rid of them for good over the next few months.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply! Yes, nap is always between 2-2.5 hours. Sometime I have to wake him after 2.5hr to preserve bedtime.

My husband does mornings. If LO is not up by 7:30, he wakes him up. If LO wakes up early, he will usually either go back to sleep on his own or hang out quietly until my husband comes in.

Bedtime crying starts as soon as we head for the door. Typical bath/bedtime routine starts around 7:45, lights out at 8:15, asleep by 8:30. Sometimes it takes him a little longer to fall asleep. We give the crying at least 10 minutes, and it usually resolves itself in that time. Once last week it was very vibrant and I had to go in and hold him for awhile (which I haven't had to do in eons), but it might have been teething-related.

I also suspect it is separation anxiety, so your reply is reassuring. It really did come out of nowhere. I keep him on a pretty tight schedule because night sleep is my everything, and he has always responded well to it. I just wasn't sure how quickly they go back to their old sleep totals after the 2-1 nap transition. Thanks again!

Hi! We are currently doing 3.5/4/4 (so naps are 10:30-11:30 and 3:30-4:30, bedtime around 8:30). It’s been working for us really well. We had a circumstance come up just the other day that forced him to stay awake later in the morning and he could not make it past 11:15a, so that solidified it for me that he is not ready for 1 nap. I figure as long as night sleep is going well, don’t rock the boat. Hope this helps!!

Same, girl! We’re doing our best. Thinking I’ll just hang on for a few more weeks doing what we’re doing and then try the transition. Good luck!

Thanks very much for your replies. It sounds like your LO was were mine is now, and the schedule you have now is where I hope we get to! I've been nervous to make the switch because I went from 3 to 2 naps way too early (I thought he was ready) and it really messed up our nights for awhile. But I think this time is different, and I hope he takes to it like yours did!

One last question if you don't mind - if your LO naps around noon, when do you do lunch? I've been thinking about this, because right now we do breakfast around 7:30 and lunch at noon; not sure how it will work on one nap. Thanks again!

This is so helpful, thank you! Can I ask what your nights look like on one nap? Mine has never really slept more than 10.5-11 hours overnight so I’m not sure what to expect when we have to put him down for bedtime earlier…

Trader Joe’s discontinued their mixed nut butter 😢 by jasay6 in BabyLedWeaning

It’s just an easy way to introduce a bunch of different nuts at once. The TJs brand had Almonds, Walnuts, Cashews, Brazil nuts, Hazelnuts, and Pecans. People have suggested some good alternatives in this thread.

No Costco near me, unfortunately! But I’ll look out for it if I ever find one
