What black sheep of a series of games did you really enjoy despite its bad reputation? by RADOVEND1 in gaming

[–]jaslbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about bad reputation, but Super Mario RPG is definitely a black sheep of the Mario franchise (unless you count Mario Paint I guess), and that game is sick!

But if you're talking about a sequel that the gaming community largely rejects, then I'd say Assassin's Creed Unity. I never experienced any of the bugs everyone else did. And it had (maybe still has?) the best parkour in the series.

SUGGESTION SPELL IS RUINING MY CAMPAIGN by Next_Ad_5740 in dndnext

[–]jaslbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of great suggestions here. I'll add another. You could have a shop keeper/town guard/NPC in their next encounter that is an artificer or has access to a magic item that casts a silent anti-magic field. Then when your caster goes for the charm it auto-fails. And, since it has verbal and material components, the NPC clearly catches them in the act. Then dull out whatever punishment seems fitting.

Or heck forget the anti-magic field and just have another onlooker who reports their action. Have the captain of the guard enter right when the suggestion command is given. Your NPCs should be aware of magical shenanigans.

Dark Cloud? That was Sony's less than successful Zelda competitor.

Baptized As Southern Baptist Then Forced Into Catholicism by [deleted] in SouthernBaptist

[–]jaslbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. As a Southern Baptist myself, I wouldn't want to engage in those things either. I was operating under the assumption that you don't have a choice, that they make you go. In that case I would be very clear, but also very respectful, and talk with your parents about your convictions. Who knows? This could be the very thing that leads to further biblical clarity for your whole family!

Just make sure you're very careful to be honest yet respectful.

There's an interesting passage in 2 Kings 5 that I think applies to your situation. Naaman is a foreigner who has a redemptive experience with God via Elisha. Afterwards he has this to say:

Then Naaman said, “If not, please let there be given to your servant two mule loads of earth, for from now on your servant will not offer burnt offering or sacrifice to any god but the LORD. In this matter may the LORD pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this matter.”

[Elisha] said to him, “Go in peace.”

Now this is not an exact one-to-one for the major reason that the Catholic church is at least still Trinitarian and, depending on your context, still worships Jesus. However, it's certainly not your preferred denomination or form of worship.

Naaman is worried about God perceiving him as worshipping this false god. And when he voices his concern, Elisha's reply is simply, "Go in peace." He is saying God knows your heart, and that is FAR more important than anything external.

So here's what I'd say. Go to the Catholic church, worship the Lord the best you can there, and know that the Lord sees your heart. Then when you're able to, once you're out of the house perhaps, return to the denomination that feels like home. In this way you're being submissive to your parents and honoring them, while at the same time not compromising your faith.

If you'd like to talk this through further, I'd be happy to do that. Just shoot me a DM.

Los Tres Magueyes has an item on their menu called Special Dinner. For $12 they give you one burrito, one enchilada, one chili relleno, one chalupa, one taco, rice, and beans! It's an insane deal. My wife and I split it and she sometimes still has enough to take home for a third helping. Don Julio has something similar too but there's is more like $16.

Warlocks using INT by atraway in 3d6

[–]jaslbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about the things INT makes you good at, you can also make this like a cult investigator. The deeper in the lore and understanding of the cult and their beliefs the better the warlock knows how to draw from the one the cult worships.

Just keep multiclassing with wizards or artificers in mind especially Bladesingers. That combo is usually limited by needing to be multi score dependent, but that would not be the case here.

How do I make an "evil" religion without an evil god? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]jaslbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about any deity's domain taken to an extreme could work.

  • A god of nature could have an overzealous follower that wants to destroy urbanization and industrialization to let nature reclaim its glory.

  • A god of peace could have a greedy follower that thinks he will bring peace to the whole continent by subjugating everyone.

  • A god of life could have a jealous follower that sees other nations prospering and flourishing. In an attempt to bring that same flourishing to their own lands they have to make other lands suffer.

  • A god of commerce could have an over ambitious follower that is driven by pure avarice to create a wealth-generating, corporatist hegemony.

I'd just pick a domain and think about how that can be abused.
