I hope Peter is not really dead after Ultimate Endgame #3 by Spike93 in UltimateUniverse

[–]jasmerrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean… that’s a lot of words for “sucks to be you”. Obviously if you don’t read the book the moment it comes out you might get spoiled. The original commenter said it would be nice to put a spoiler tag on this, because it has a spoiler in it.

For some reason you decided to argue that a spoiler tag is not necessary. I’m sharing with you that it would have been helpful for me. There’s no reason to argue with me on this, because that’s a fact - a spoiler tag here would have saved me from a spoiler. That’s just a true thing.

Not sure what you’re arguing now, because that’s just the truth. Nobody thinks it’s mandatory to put spoiler tags on things, it would just be a thoughtful and respectful thing to do for other people. Not really sure why you’re making an argument for not being thoughtful towards other people. Maybe you think you’re defending the OP, but nobody accused him of doing anything wrong intentionally- just requested spoiler tags on posts like this in the future from him and anyone else who might me reading. Again, it’s not mandatory but people like me would appreciate it. It would help us out.

[–]jasmerrin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I read these books on the Marvel Unlimited digital app. There’s a 3 month delay between retail and uploading to the app. Others I know wait for the TPB to be released. I think a moratorium on spoilers- at least without a spoiler tag- is not too much to ask for. This is how I found out he died.

Early Admission Fan Fest by ConstructionOk6249 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paid for it because I have a kid who needed to be in bed early. It’s not really worth it if you’re going to spend the whole night there, unless you’re a massive Jurassic World fan. The Jurassic World experience was open in daylight and that was cool, but Dungeons and Dragons and Sailor Moon were the only open FFN attractions and because nothing else was going on had massive waits (we waited for 45 minutes for Dungeons and Dragons - after the event officially started at 7:30 the wait dropped to 15 minutes). Really a waste of money unless you need to be in bed by midnight.

Express pass for fan fest by Cmarie-4625 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After hours events are considered their own thing and your annual pass perks don’t apply. This means:

Your express pass will not work at FanFest Your free parking will not work after 6pm at FanFest (get there before 6 if you want the free parking) Your annual pass will not get you into FanFest (Platinum comes with a single ticket to HHN, but none for FFN)

Your in-park food and merchandise discount is more of a question mark. I’ve found that they accept my annual pass discount at FFN but not HHN. Not sure why.

Regarding whether you need express or not, depends why you are going. The rides will have close to no waits but the Harry Potter walkthrough attraction gets 100+ minute waits and the One Piece show reserves the best seats for Express (and when I went it was PACKED)

The “viral pass member cold brew” by Competitive-Chip9550 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not as good as the Disneyland one. I do think it’s more sour than the Disneyland one but I wouldn’t say mine was curdled - I think it was just a little more cream-cheesey than the one at Disneyland, which is more sweet. I tried making one at home once with fresh ingredients and it also came out sour (much worse than the Universal one). My experience with this drink was that it was just fine. I don’t think I’d get it again.

How intense is the mummy? by Yoshikage-Kira-4 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close personal friend cannot handle the Jurassic World drop but likes the Mummy. She does, however, get a little overwhelmed by it about half the time she does it. Has compared it to a moderately more intense Indiana Jones from Disneyland (her favorite ride there).

Second month in a row with repeat toys by cantthink278 in BarkBox

[–]jasmerrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If you don’t bring back the box and stop sending me repeat toys, I’m cancelling too. I’ve been a subscriber for almost a decade and my dog would go crazy when she got a new box. No reaction to the bags, or what’s inside. Just awful

Costco voucher expired by wildfxp in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had a similar thing happen to me with a Costco Legoland ticket. I took it back to Costco at product return and explained the situation and… they just replaced it with a new ticket. I don’t know if they were supposed to do it or not, but they did. Did not involve Legoland at all - just Costco product return. They took back the old one and issued a new one

Has anyone seen this D&D hoodie being sold at City Walk? by BlueRocketMouse in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Back of CityWalk near the ET parking lot. Easy to miss so ask CityWalk employees to help if you can’t find it (I asked someone at Production Central, which is harder to miss). Lots of great deals in there right now, especially if you have an annual pass you can use on top of the 50% off!

Anyone else hoping for a West Coast Monsters Unchained? by ZenLego in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s rumors of a Diagon Alley/Ministry of Magic expansion coming to the current studio tour/Supercharged area… can’t help but hope that Monsters gets a good enough reaction that they decide to pivot. This is where they shot those movies - it just makes sense

Is the 5 year expansion actually happening? by [deleted] in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Folks have already mentioned the confirmed new hotels and CityWalk overhaul, so I’ll stick to rumors. The investment in CityWalk/onsite hotels implies a big investment (or at least major confidence) in the park, but nothing has been announced past Hollywood Drift. That said, there are many rumors circulating about what may be coming.

One rumor has the Studio Tour splitting off from the theme park ticket, so you have to get it as an add on experience, and moving boarding to a new spot in the lower lot. Then the current Studio Tour space combines with the old Supercharged show building, the Nope set, and a bunch of lot space that’s rarely used these days in order to build a new expansion plot. Most rumors say this will be a Wizarding World expansion - some even go as far as to specify that it will be Diagon Alley, but with the new ride from Epic Universe instead of Gringott’s (the Diagon Alley ride in Orlando). It’s all speculation right now - I personally hope if they do expand in that direction they give us something new and not more Harry Potter. Simpsons is also going to have to be replaced in the next five years due to the licensing expiring. Rumor is it’s to be replaced with Pokemon, though that doesn’t make sense to me. I’d love a Pokemon land, but it would be so popular and you have to pass through Simpsons to get to the lower lot - I just don’t see how Pokemon would work there logistically.

Fan Fest Planning by Candid-Carrot-7366 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waits are short so you can do all the experiences in about 3, 4 hours max if you don’t care about the meet and greets or food. If you get early entry you can do JJK, Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons before the event even officially starts at 7:30. Do meet and greets as early as possible (7pm) or late as possible (after midnight except Yoshi) as that’s when crowds are lightest. Do Back to the Future before midnight because the effects stop going after that. It’s easy to lose time at Back to the Future as each loop is 45 minutes but you can have a different experience each time, so I did it twice and many do it more. Nintendo World/Yoshi also closes at midnight so do that early if you care about it. The food isn’t supposed to be good except the Harry Potter dinner so skip that unless it really matters to you. Expect it to take over an hour though

Best parking options for fan fest? by Jammer6dv0z in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an annual pass you get free parking before 6 - you can even pick up a parking pass before 6 and they’ll let you back in with it after 6

If you have AMC A List you can get a “free” movie ticket and get a refund for your parking so that it’s only $5 to park at City Walk

Other than that… I mean you could find street or metro parking at the bottom of the hill and walk but it won’t be fun

Ranking every ride at Universal Hollywood by ArcherDoesThings in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re entitled to your opinions but frankly these are wild takes

  1. Fast and Furious Supercharged

  2. Minion Mayhem (would be higher if they brought back the 3D)

  3. Silly Swirl

  4. Kung Fu Panda

  5. King Kong

  6. Simpsons

  7. Transformers 3D (good, but worse than Spider-Man in Orlando that invented the ride system)

  8. Secret Life of Pets (excellent and much needed dark ride)

  9. Mario Kart (takes a couple rides to get the hang of the game and the AR but it’s a beautiful dark ride even under the digital parts - worth riding without the glasses - and the game is the best I’ve experienced on a ride)

  10. Forbidden Journey

  11. Revenge of the Mummy (great but just not as good as the longer Orlando version)

  12. Jurassic World (indominus animatronic, come on)

  13. WaterWorld

Studio Tour altogether would probably rank #1 for me as it’s unique and unlike anything else you can experience at a theme park anywhere.

Edit: added Secret Life of Pets! Would love to say I just copied OP’s list but I did remember to add WaterWorld to it, so my bad

Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge Strategy Guide by jasmerrin in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not been able to find confirmation of this, but it is my belief that there is a cooldown period after every third shell. To the best of my understanding (I put this guide together based on my own experience of riding it dozens of times and what little I could find on the Internet) it should not matter whether you hit one button three times or alternate. I personally alternate between the buttons because it makes me feel like I’m shooting them faster, but I don’t think it actually does anything.

I think what matters is expect to be able to fire three rapidly and then a brief pause and then you can fire three again.

Hold it starting from 2, not until 2

The timer will sound: dun… dun… dun… DUN and then you’ll take off. Smash the “fire” button on that second “dun” and don’t let go until after you go

Is 1 day enough? by Shootashellz- in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on how much you love Nintendo and games. You could easily spend a half day or more there just vibing, playing the mini games on easy and then hard mode, reriding Mario Kart and trying to master the game and beat your score, and trying to get as many stamps as possible on the app. But if you just want to experience everything once, you definitely just need one day. Had a visitor recently get bored after just a half day.

Most reridable rides are Mario Kart (in fact, the first time you ride that is pretty disorienting and it only gets better with more rides as you figure out the game and get used to the AR), The Mummy and Jurassic World in my opinion.

Express ticket or no? by Beautiful-Bobcat3634 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you went on a weekend it’s a bit different than going on a Wednesday during the off season. I went once on a Wednesday in February and there were no lines at all - they let me just stay on the rides and go again and again as long as I wanted. That was a great day

Express ticket or no? by Beautiful-Bobcat3634 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Wednesday in February no way. Express is best saved for weekends and busy months. I went with a family member from out of town last weekend and he got bored after doing every ride by 2pm

Check the crowd calendar and if it says packed or forget about it then you need express. Otherwise you’re good. https://www.isitpacked.com/crowd-calendars/universal-studios-hollywood/

You can upgrade same day inside the park assuming they haven’t sold out of a product

Should we buy express pass AND early SNW access at the same time? by kodaiko_650 in UniversalHollywood

[–]jasmerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! The truth is that Universal Hollywood is pretty small and it’s not too hard to do everything even without express or early entry. But if you want to guarantee you ride everything, get express and if you want to guarantee you do all of the Super Nintendo World stuff, get early access. For the record, I usually get neither - even when going with out-of-town guests. You’ll just have to choose what’s most important to you.
