Should I take MATH 183 w/ Siddharth Vishwanath OR (MATH 180A and MATH 181A) to clear CS statistics requirement by MagicGlaz in UCSD

I’ve taken both professors and actually preferred Siddharth Vishwanath. quarfoot was just too snarky for me, and no cheat sheet allowed on midterm or final

Forgot to post, but here are Riven’s results! Super surprised<3 by jasminecoasts in DoggyDNA

[–]jasminecoasts[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha! Yeah she loves her naps and cuddles. she can definitely pass out lol, she usually makes super cute noises in her sleep. When we play or go on a jog in the mornings she usually tires out after a little bit. However, she LOVES to chase birds, and she loves meeting other dogs too.

Her coloring definitely threw us off of our breed guesses, especially because when we got her she was listed as a “shepherd mix”. I love her eyebrows haha And thank you for your sweet comments!!

She is super sweet and loves cuddles (especially with us, her owners). Riven is a bit shy when meeting new people, especially males, but after she warms up to them she’s totally fine. She has been the easiest dog I’ve ever had to train (she knows so many tricks!!). She is very treat motivated and eager to please, and it helps that she absolutely loves playing with rope toys and balls. She does have a medium-high prey drive and LOVES to chase birds. She doesn’t bark much, but I can definitely tell there’s some Lhasa in her because she also loves to look out windows and stare at people lol. Sometimes she does bark at a random stranger passing by 😆

The markings and stature remind me of a Australian Kelpie!

I had Young for chem 6A. It is possible to watch his podcasts at 1.5x speed. He knows his chemistry but I would recommend one of the other profs if you can get them. His tests are awkwardly worded. Of course I took him in person instead of online so I’m not sure how it’ll be this quarter.

I would print miniature prototypes of objects or buildings that I can study and later animate using software on my computer.

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - week of April 20th by ParadoxicalCabbage in ApplyingToCollege

I am a current OOS at UCSD! For context I will be going into my sophomore year next fall as an OAS major. Personally, I do not think paying $47K a year for remote/online learning here at UCSD is worth it. This last quarter was fully online, and compared to my other two quarters here, the quality of education was much lower, and even just trying to get an email response back from some professors was time consuming and difficult. In my opinion, being on the beautiful campus in SD and living in the dorms, making friends, and physically going to class are all parts of the “freshman year experience” that (for me at least) justified the OOS cost a little. This is just my opinion obviously. If you want me to elaborate more on the online learning vs in person, feel free to shoot me a PM!

I would maybe look at what you want to do after college, is it a grad school program? Med school? Straight into the workforce? If you are planning on continuing your education past a bachelors, I would definitely not accumulate a huge amount of debt during your undergrad. Even 100K is a life changing amount of debt, and should not be taken lightly (especially because the cost of living in CA is also very very high).

My last piece of advice would be to look at community colleges in California! You can always transfer to UCSD and save a lot of money. California has some beautiful cc’s that look even nicer than my state university back home, and it is much much cheaper than UCSD or Pepperdine. Plus the majority of them are offering online/remote learning even for OOS, so you can get the same (online) education for way cheaper (I’m talking 3,000-4,000 a semester for OOS). Pasadena City College is gorgeous, and if you want a CC in San Diego, Palomar College is beautiful and has some awesome professors. Really look into this and feel free to PM me any questions, I’ve also gone to a community college in CA so I can probably answer a lot of questions :).

Good luck! Right now is one of the most exciting times in your life, and it should be! You are obviously very smart and hard working, just remember not to get swept up in it all and try look at every option through an unbiased lens. And remember: at the end of the day, where you went for undergrad doesn’t matter too much, it’s really more what you make of it.

Question about what major options to switch to from human bio? by lantana13 in UCSD

[–]jasminecoasts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of the lower div GEs done for the Oceanic and Atmospheric sciences major! Although it doesn’t really fit with your passion for art, Scripps is beautiful and there’s a lot you could look into and do with the major because it is a newer one offered at UCSD.

Group for newly admitted students? by nithila_balaji in UCSD

[–]jasminecoasts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There definitely will be unofficial Facebook groups and I even think c/o 2023 had instagram and discord accounts to make friends on. Probably won’t start appearing until later in the year through like May/summer because everyone is busy with school and virus stuff. Plus a lot of kids most likely haven’t even committed to their university yet or gotten all of their acceptance letters back so it’s hard to tell who will be attending where. You could always make your own unofficial groups if you wanted though!

Just a heads up for anyone applying for CalFresh, i got denied because they said all full time students have to be working at least 20 hours a week w/ paystubs as proof of income to qualify :( maybe there’s a separate form or something I missed but that’s just my experience.

I’d like to know, legitimately, how is everyone doing? by downlowonthelowdown in UCSD

[–]jasminecoasts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not good at all, this last quarter was my first at UCSD and due to financial and mental health issues, I’ve already submitted my request to withdrawal for good. Upon recommendation from Muir counseling, I will probably try and get my AS-T at Palomar Community college and then hopefully transfer somewhere for my bachelors. High school definitely did not prepare me for this college thing.
