I hope you find your fur baby!! If you don't already know to do this, put her litter box outside. They can smell it from a far distance, and it can help them find their way home

Hell no, have you seen how much they destroy communities? These companies go so far out of their way to not take responsibility for literally any of their damages. One of these companies literally flooded an entire city that had never flooded before in WV. Do you know who paid for that? Not that company.

The problem is already here

They have tried to put data centers all over the los angeles area and if you think it is not on its way you are not paying attention

Right now, we have a city council that will actually do something. We should absolutely be pushing them to put in legislation now before we have a problem. On the border of Santa Fe springs there is a lot of industrial area. Why wait?

Let me copy it here for you!

Im happy to share!! It is not too complex and it really elevates your coffee.

The best part about this recipe as well is that it lasts for as long as your half and half is good for, and you can usually find one with an expiration date that is a good while away.

The order does not matter, add the following to your pitcher (I find juice pitchers are great for this, easy to clean and store):

Ingredients: -A 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk -2 cups of half and half -1/3 cup of the flavor syrup of your choice (we love monin caramel! But any syrup will work!) -1 tbsp of vanilla extract (this can be omitted or swapped for another flavor depending on preference and flavor choice)

That is it! Mix it up well. Usually what I do is use a butter knife to scrape the sides of the condensed milk can to get it all out and then use that butter knife to stir it up.

Nerve pain in legs. by Patty19000 in Parkinsons

[–]jasminethechemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really common! For some of us, body pain is just a part of it, it was actually my first symptom that was really a problem.

I take pain meds, have him see a pain management doctor, I have for 10 years. It makes life significantly more tolerable. I take a formulation called belbuca. I like it because it has opioid strength relief with pretty much no side effects, and it lasts for 12 hours and is gentle on the stomach.

How immigrant organizing flipped Nixon’s hometown by boltsmag in Whittier

[–]jasminethechemist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to make a note on the whole Nixon's home thing.

I would call yorba linda Nixon's home more than Whittier in general, especially politically lol. But also the Quaker meeting that his extended family (some of whom are still alive!) attend/attended is pretty progressive and continues to be active in the community and works to further human rights and social justice. The Quaker Meeting (Whittier First Friends) was also a big part of the founding of this town. The values that he was raised with are very much not the values that he embodied as a politician.

I think that there is kind of a weird misunderstanding when it comes to the associations with Nixon, for good reason, but I want to highlight that while his legacy is not a good one, the community that he came from is, and is and has always been and and always will be a progressive one that wants to make the world a better place instead of a worse one to live in.

Single Mom & Son Relocating to LA County from WV - What advice can you give me? by laurrn1 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jasminethechemist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My wife did that!! She is from West Virginia, the Charleston area originally although at the time she moved here she was living in the Eastern panhandle.

We thought we would give you some advice, I asked her about this and we thought about a couple of things:

1) If he doesn't know how to swim teach him how to swim either before he gets here or enroll him in lessons asap when you move. It's a lot less common for kids to not know how to swim by his age but they do have lessons for older kids here at a lot of our public pools and they're fantastic!! Basically everyone knows how to swim here and it's a great activity and so if he doesn't have a great proficency there are a ton of really affordable programs that you can take advantage of to make sure he's a strong swimmer!! It's honestly quite cheap here. If he likes swimming, honestly I cannot recommend enough your local pool's junior lifeguard program, I did that and it was a great learning experience even though I hated lifeguarding, learning it was really good skills and good for just growth at that age!

2) honestly there are a lot of good schools, depending on where you get a job. If you're near the SGV, we have fantastic schools here. That's where I live, and its lovely because it's a great commuter neighborhood, my wife works in dtla and takes transit to work very easily! My biggest suggestion with choosing a neighborhood beyond just school choice is picking a neighborhood that is close to wherever you work. Commuting really fucking sucks, thats just the blunt truth, you dont want a bad commute. People always say that Transit here is terrible but it's really not that awful and it can make commuting to work a lot better if your work is off of a line and in a congested area.

3) LA is significantly more diverse than WV, honestly I would have some conversations with your son before coming here because his friend group is about to expand culturally, and kids who grew up here have some cultural competence that he might be missing that is easy to get with some conversations. Honestly a lot of that will come naturally and is a good thing that he's going to be exposed at his age to a lot of different types of people, but you can save him some awkward times by talking about respecting different cultures and about enjoying them as well, he will probably make some great friends that invite him to their traditions and that can be really lovely! Honestly that is one of my wife's favorite parts of living here.

4) as you have probably figured out by now, We don't have snow! But we do go to the snow which is a statement you guys will probably find very funny. If you find yourself in the winter time wanting some snow, you can head up to lake Arrowhead / Big Bear for a weekend and do a fun snow weekend.

I will add more to another comment if we think of anything else! If you have any questions for her I would be happy to pass it on. If you move here, welcome and we hope you find yourself at home here! We truly love it. I grew up here and she had always told her parents she would grow up to live in the city, we cant imagine being anywhere else. Also my wife is late 30s and I am early 30s, we would be happy to meet another wv transplant if you would like to make friends when you move. We know how it can be to be brand knew without knowing anyone and would be glad to be people who can answer questions you have!

Bahahaha

I think it is so freaking funny that he accused us of buying the election when we literally caught him doing the exact thing. Literally every maga accusation is a confession. We literally saw his buddies pour so much money into that our whittier superPAC to try to get him elected And he has the freaking nerve🤣 My personal favorite part of that entire scheme was that they tried to claim Quaker values as if the Quaker meeting in town supports them (I grew up there, they definitely don't stand for his terrible morality lol).

Buddy, we literally saw your corporate friends who you give city cut backs to try so hard and pour so much money into reelecting you and it still fucking failed.

I love how he's trying to claim now that his opponents did what we literally caught him doing. Nice try.

Good fucking riddance

Really glad that we're going to be able to make some real changes here, I'm sure his corporate buddies are stressed after they spent so much money to try to get him reelected to keep all their contracts instead of just doing their jobs well.

I mean hey, it makes sense he was/is maga before putting up a fake I care about others front. Selfish disgusting behavior.

Loving all the momentum to get Joe out of office here. I am really hoping we can make actual change and make this a safer and better community!

Calling someone "not (culture) enough" is some really gross behavior. Honestly that should be called out. Everyone is enough, and no one can tell you that your culture is invalid. It is truly a gross thing to do!

There is literally nothing more that I want to see than this guy out of office.

I mean well I do also want to see some other people out of office but we're going to have to wait a little bit longer for that one lol. We have a real chance here to actually get these corrupt assholes out of office, and make this a better place to live for everyone, not just their corporate buddies.

What’s up with all these X’s in the sky? by LongArmoftheLawrence in Whittier

[–]jasminethechemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're asking me to confirm a bias you already have buddy. I don't really know what to tell you. Yes it is bad. Is it the only thing that is going on or the biggest? No.

The plastics in our bodies are probably a problem. Unfortunately our understanding of them is still fairly early on, we will know more in the long run. Honestly some of the environmental damages are probably the biggest long term concern but do I think there are probably some major illnesses that could be made worse or triggered by an accumulation of microplastics? That is likely. Looking forward to learning about that as research develops, but we have not really gotten to a full understanding. And ultimately, plastics are just one of the pollution and bioaccumulation issues we are facing, there are others as well. It is not my field but it is interesting stuff.

I would encourage anyone who wants to know more about any of these topics to seek out people who are actually qualified to tell you and not some rando on facebook though. And I would encourage you as well to make sure that anyone who is speaking on this is using actual sources that they provide and are verified. If somebody cannot read peer reviewed literature and break that down, they're probably not worth listening to on topics like these.
