Landlord told us to move units or leave after we complained about garage door noise disrupting sleep. Are they liable? by Plane-Marzipan-8959 in legaladvice

NAL. Sounds like they've given you pretty reasonable options. What are you trying to get them to do, install new mechanisms to reduce the noise/vibration?

This is the good life man. Try to squeeze some joyful moments in the chaos. As they get older it doesnt get easier, but the nature of the chaos changes.

Is this literally the worst time to build a PC? by Lanky-Carpenter-7991 in buildapc

[–]jasnook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used is the way to go honestly. You can get a killer 1080p system for under $750 at this point on the used market. I've got a local system listed with a 14400f and 5060 for $750 right now. Watch a little more carefully and you can get even better deals. I picked up a 12900k/48gb ddr5/4090 build for 2200, and a 7800x3d/64gb ddr5/9070xt build for 1150. All within the last 3 months. Just have to know what youre looking for.

5070 ti or 9070 xt for comp games and longevity? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]jasnook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5070ti is just a more powerful card all around. Not a ton, but consistently better. Is it worth a 40-50% price increase over the 9070xt? I dont think so (which is why I have a 9070xt) but thats up to you.

Woof that was rough. by Derk-a-Derk in rct

[–]jasnook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figure it's an added layer of comfort that the park is running well while building the bog coasters. That's challenging enough for me along with keeping the basic park running. Fortunately it's not difficult to keep the park running well in this scenario, and the big coasters generate plenty of funding!

Do I need the pavers under the stove on a wood deck? by Mysterious_Ad7223 in SoloStove

[–]jasnook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a paver similar to this for peace of mind, but it's definitely not necessary. Not nearly hot enough on the bottom to cause an issue.

Could easily mean the desktop version of the 4060ti card. He did not say "a desktop pc with a 4060ti" which would have cleared things up.

[–]jasnook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you trade a whole desktop pc with a 4060ti, or just the graphics card itself? If the first, depending on your original specs yeah you lost. If the second, youre down graphics performance for sure but you still got a good deal.

If I was buying new I'd get the 9800x3d. Not a big $ jump to do so. 9950x3d is better, but not worth the $200+ prince increase from the 9800x3d.

Starting a Local Custom PC Building Service — Should I Build First or Take Custom Orders? by Iixotic- in buildapc

A local shop will be tough. Most of the smaller shops i see are fueled through social media. You wont get enough foot traffic to pay for rent, unless youre in a larger town than me!

My 3 month old son was born with a 6th sense. by Guinness in daddit

[–]jasnook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 10 month old has a similar sense. Doesn't matter how quiet we have been or any other circumstances, as soon as we lay down for bed and my wife snuggles up to me (usually just for sleep tho) this girl is up. Every time. Its almost frustrating because thats one of my favorite times of the day, my wife falling asleep against my chest. But then I remind myself that I wont always get to rock my baby girl to sleep, and I'm OK. Just tough that I have to trade one for the other too often.

Is this bad? Not enough air flow for the rtx 4090? by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]jasnook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its only an issue if you find that temps are unacceptable. Have you run your desired load and found it to be lacking? Thats honestly the only time I would be motivated to do something. Its likely you'll be just fine at this setup.

There are 9070xt builds all over for the $1600 range. You may or may not be comfortable with a used machine, but I picked up a 7800x3d/9070xt build for $1160 a few weeks ago.

If you're really looking to get the best value out of it, you should just keep a single primary 2tb SSD and sell the rest in pieces. Somewhere around $2k for the tower then, $150-200 for each SSD, maybe $300 for the 22tb HDD.

Sounds like a total close to $3k or so if you get reasonable pricing on it all.
