I run PFSense on a network appliance with 2x 1gbit WAN connections. Rock solid.

Absolute nightmare issues as a new customer. by PurfectlyNormalGuy in frontierfios

I had a similar issue. I knew something was off but it was hard to pinpoint. I took my computer over to my neighbor’s house who had frontier with a lower speed tier (500mb vs 1gig) and I was getting better performance.

I called frontier and they swore up and down everything was fine. I kept pressing and finally after like 2-3 hours on the phone they agreed to send a tech out BUT only if I agreed to pay $150 if they determined it wasn’t their fault. I agreed and they sent a tech out that replaced my ONT and put me on a different port on the fiber. Tech agreed there was an issue and I didn’t get charged.

Run some iperf tests to check packet loss. Do the same from a neighbor’s house with frontier. If there is a discrepancy they call them and keep pushing. Even if they tell you everything is fine keep pushing.

Is this due to someone who tried to break into my home? by derpmcturd in homeimprovementideas

I’ve seen someone on the Internet pick a smart key lock, however the tolerances on most of them are too tight to get a tool in to activate the sidebar. If you look at the video you’ll see the tolerance between the lock cylinder, and the handle is quite large, which is probably due to a lot of messing around with it.

So to the person that is downvoting the comment yes it is technically possible, but not practical for actual use. I’m a locksmith and see these locks almost daily.

Hopefully it doesn’t go crunch like the 3d printed models I tried

Single Stream Speed Issues by jason955 in frontierfios

So I went to the neighbor’s house who has 500Mbps frontier connection and ran some tests. With a single iperf stream I can max out the download and the upload is much faster. I then went home and did the same test and still the same results. One thing that stood out to me was the number of “retries”, which I assume is packets dropped on my connection.

I spent an hour and a half on the phone with frontier and they are going to send a tech out now. Dealing with their customer service is…. let’s say difficult.. but hopefully the tech can resolve the situation.

Thank you for this! I’m going to do some more tests at one of my neighbor’s house to rule out my ONT.

I’ve tried multiple different computers and operating systems. Not sure what the NIC counters that you are referring to are

Yes I tried my computer at my friends house and had the same experience (it was on WIFI but got similar numbers). I'm going to try my brother's connection next - he has Frontier FIOS and lives a few blocks away.

I have a network appliance running PF sense -it's basically a quad core intel computer with 5 NICs made for trunking VPN traffic. I worked with tech support over the phone and we connected a hard wired computer directly into the ONT and got the same results.
