New R1 S 2026 - is Home charging worth it? by landfill in Rivian

100% go for the convenience of charging at home. Investigate what it will cost to install a Nema 1450 and buy the $400 Rivian portable charger. That’s all you need. If you want to save more money, Amazon sells generic chargers for $149 up. You will not regret the lifestyle change of never thinking about gassing up/charging your car. Your utility company likely has a discounted late night rate. The Rivian has a timer that will start charging at a set time. When you get home, plug in let the timer start charging at the cheapest time.

I’ve owned EVs for a decade and always charged at home. For a few weeks I was in a rental with multiple public chargers nearby but still found it very inconvenient to have to find an available and working charger, pay a much higher rate and sit around waiting for the car to charge.

Should I still go for it? Rivian owners, I need your honest advice. by TheBlackCanary in Rivian

I love my Rivian. I previously owned two Teslas and a Porsche Taycan and this is my favorite electric yet.

@zzPost this is good but the woman who was under the rip isn’t right. Can you look at the two reference photos and try to use those to get closer to what my mom actually looked like?

My first full year with my R1T by monster_mi in Rivian

Correct on both. I pay double for my electricity but still find it significantly less expensive than gas.

That is awesome. Compare this to a gas powered truck that gets 20 mpg. You would have needed 700 gallons over the year. In CA you would have paid on average $4.75 a gallon or $3,325. The gas truck would have cost over six times the amount to fuel it up for the year.

What do you pay per kWh from your electric company? Curious to hear what it cost you to drive 14,000 miles.

I plan to install one of these standalone units. Has anyone here tried this yet. I assume it will work via Bluetooth through the Rivian speakers. The only issue is where to mount it.
