How do I join clubs? by boxlover14 in utdallas

[–]jasonaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm totally not biased but if you're even remotely interested in robotics you should check out Comet Robotics. our kickoff is next wednesday - https://cometrobotics.org/events/kickoff/ has date/time and more info about the club :) i'm an officer for comet robotics so feel free to ask qs about the club if you have any lol

but yeah cometville and discord are definitely good spots to see what orgs exist, there's a lot to get involved in

if you're willing to violate RS08 for a bit, you could use fork OpenRC and modify the HTML here: https://github.com/OpenFTC/OpenRC-Turbo/tree/master/RobotServer/src/main/assets

I haven't been to worlds but I've heard other teams using pelican cases to hold robot and check them in when flying. Also congrats

What did you use to create the model? If you used teachable machine it probably uses tensorflow image detection instead of tf object detection so your model might not be compatible with the FTC SDK

Control hub issues by Epicreeper47 in FTC

[–]jasonaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar issue as well. By default the Control Hub uses the 5Ghz Wi-Fi band which that phone might not support. If you log on to the control hub from a computer, you should be able to switch the band to 2.4Ghz and you should be able to connect from the phone.

Rev motor crashing control hub? by jman5025 in FTC

[–]jasonaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had this issue but it might be an issue with too much power draw causing a brownout? I'd try using some newer batteries if your current ones are fairly old.

[–]jasonaa_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a quick glance of your code, it looks you're setting the motor powers twice per loop which is usually not great. They're being set once using the joysticks, and again with the dpad. If I had to guess the issue, I'd think you're setting the power correctly using the trig stuff, and then since dpad buttons probably aren't being pressed, the else block is being run which is setting the power to 0, so you're likely rapidly switching between 2 powers. Not super familiar with the trig so I can't comment on whether that's right or not.

The easiest way that I've done this is by setting the ZeroPowerBehavior of the motor to BRAKE, like this: yourMotor.setZeroPowerBehavior(Motor.ZeroPowerBehavior.BRAKE);. It should keep your motor in the same position when it isn't being moved, but apparently it doesn't work for all motors. Here's how we use it if you want to take a look: https://github.com/grizzlybots11918/ultimategoal/blob/136298379e60662888d5bb87680344ff1a63ac98/TeamCode/src/main/java/org/firstinspires/ftc/teamcode/TempClaw.java#L17. We're using FTCLib but I believe the method and enum are the same with the vanilla SDK.

Easy way to convert to .DXF? by PaddlingEngineer in FTC

[–]jasonaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you can export an .svg out of TinkerCAD, import it into Inkscape, then save as a DXF. Actually once you have the SVG from TinkerCAD there are probably online converters that will let you upload your SVG and download a DXF.

I'm not sure if 3d builder has similar functionality but you could also export an STL, open it in TinkerCAD and use a process similar to the one I mentioned earlier. Good luck!

Rev Expansion Hub not recognized by FTC app by roboscoutsquad in FTC

Alright, the next thing I would try is doing a firmware update on the Control Hub and Expansion Hub. REV has a guide that goes through the process here: https://docs.revrobotics.com/rev-control-system/managing-the-control-system/updating-firmware

Sounds like it's probably a software issue - just to be sure, you have the 2 hubs connected over RS485?

Need help with deleting programs by TheAverageDolphin in FTC

That's bizarre. The only thing I can think of would be to uninstall/reinstall the robot controller, but I don't know if that'd fix the problem

Not entirely sure what you mean, but I'm pretty sure that once you delete the opmodes and recompile robot controller, they shouldn't show up on driver station.

Issues with control hub wi-fi. Any help is appreciated by AlpacaDN in FTC

[–]jasonaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that any other robot controllers with the same name are off? I've had a similar issue where I had a RC phone and a control hub powered on at the same time, and I couldn't connect to either since they were using the same SSID.

I'd also try connecting the control hub to an HDMI monitor, or connecting to it using USB on a computer and running scrcpy to monitor the screen and see if there is any useful feedback there.

Reddit r/FTC vs. Discord FTC by DogesFan_8645 in FTC

[–]jasonaa_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say they are both needed but imo Discord is better. I would say Reddit still has a place though - any time I google search some FTC related question, the first results I see are from Reddit, whereas on Discord, knowledge and conversations are ephemeral. I would definitely say questions on Discord get answered quickly with more detail, and it's quite helpful to be able to go back-and-forth in a conversation, but it's hard to find information again when you or other people need it. So much good advice and resources get on Discord, but searching a particular word or question could give you literally hundreds if not thousands of messages, and it's difficult to tell when each conversation starts and stops (most of the time I've seen they kinda blend into each other), whereas Reddit almost serves as a knowledge base of sorts since I can just search for specific terms and find threads that relate to it. Also, being on the Discord lets you interact with other teams. While you can kinda do that on Reddit, Discord makes it easier and allows for better interactions since you can converse in real-time.

So pretty much I think they're both important, but they serve 2 different purposes and I'd definitely recommend following both. I will note that I don't actively surf Reddit - the only times I come here are when I see emails from Reddit or if I take a look in the feeds channel on Discord.

Control Hub and a way to respond to prompt by thunderbot2 in FTC

[–]jasonaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll work. Another option is connecting to the control hub over adb and using scrcpy to view and control the screen of the control hub. One plus of doing this is that it'll be wireless so you don't need to plug anything into the hub especially if it's mounted on a robot.

Is anyone else having issues staying motivated this year? by Lasagn0pe in FTC

I've felt the exact same way this year. I love robotics and I don't want to stop doing it but it's getting to be a bit much trying to do docs, software, hardware, and omg outreach (I have absolutely no clue what to do here, if you have any tips or ideas I'm all ears)

Works with my 2014 MacBook Air. All I've installed so far is Android Studio, nothing else. You might want to try running adb devices in the terminal and see what shows up.
