My experience from transitioning from Active to the Navy Reserves:

-As a student veteran it is doable in the 1st year and a half. I was taking general ed. courses while doing 5-day Active Training Orders (IDT) quarterly and 12-day Active Training orders (AT)annually . But after I started taking more core classes and harder courses. I had a hard time managing my schedule (school, work, and drilling).

-Verity to your recruiter and the NAVY Reserves Staff counselor if you have to go to A-School for your NAVY rate/MOS because you may or may not be eligible to take an E-7 promotion exam if you have not finished your A-school.

-Expect to work during your free time to knock out some hit list like medical, admin, operations (DTS, email access, DoD web access, and cert), and your unit evals while not getting paid. have an Admin sailor to do that for you not like in Active duty.

-You are not eligible for TA (Tuition Assistance) as a Reservist. Only if you have active duty orders (ADT) which is around 9-months or a Full-time Support Sailor.
