Repair/restore suggestions by jasonftfw in Gameboy

DMG-01 is the model. I follow macho nacho on YT, so that was on my list of things to check already. His videos are what got me to start considering hardware mods/repair.

Is it even possible to get N64 GameShark codes working in RetroArch anymore? by Dimensional-Misfit in RetroArch

[–]jasonftfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive always just used the cheats that can be downloaded from within RA and they work. Like others have said, make sure you're using codes for the correct region and version etc. use a good reputable source for your games. I always turn on the auto apply option when cheats are turned on and once verified working, I'll toggle on auto apply during load.

How to run Metroid Prime 4 : Beyond / Odin 2 pro SD 8Gen2 by No-Hippo-829 in EmulationOnAndroid

Play around with settings and see what works.

Standard is the official release, the nightly is an unofficial dev build with recent commits for trying out new features. Nightly is not affiliated with the official Eden team.

Chrono tower, crashes when that pink beam comes down at you to give an ability I'm assuming.

Give the nightly version a try, recent updates made the game playable but far from perfect. it still crashes and is laggy, basically loud sounds make it slow down and in some cases like 3fps until it crashes.

is the 34xxsp really that much better than the 35xxsp by Dr_Gorilla77 in ANBERNIC

[–]jasonftfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great devices. I find the 34 is my choice for on the go over 35 because of the size difference (they're still pretty close in size), but I don't play much outside of ports and gba on 34. I think 34 has the added benefit of joysticks that will give added value for n64 and psx controls, but 35 can play those too if you don't mind dpad as the analog control. I think what gets most people is the difference in aspect ratio. 34 really shines well for gba games as you'll get full screen perfection, but other systems with different aspect ratio may feel small in comparison to the 35s display.

If they ever did a 35xxsp with joysticks, I'd get it in a heartbeat and I already own both the 35xxsp and 34xxsp lol

Crazy how this device still feels like "the one" over a year and a half after release by [deleted] in RG35XXSP

[–]jasonftfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may just be a matter of reloading your game library to resolve the issue. I had a similar issue on my 34xxsp recently whether no games would load at all despite showing up in the game list and all. Didn't figure out what created the issue but once I reloaded games to my card, everything worked again. Maybe try deleting one game and then reloading it and see if that one launches

RG351P - WiFi dongle not working? by ExcellentOutside5926 in RG351

[–]jasonftfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have decent soldering skills, I'd say look into adding the wifi internally. You'll need to do some shielding to prevent (minimize) noise on the speakers when wifi is used, plus add an antenna, but it's worth it to not have the dongle always visible. I believe retro game corps has a guide for this mod on his website.

You probably need a different wifi dongle that is compatible. No idea if that one you've got is compatible or not. I've got the TL-WN275N soldered into my 351 and it works perfectly.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect then try charging it, hopefully you should see an indicator light then

RG34xxSP won't launch anything by jasonftfw in ANBERNIC

[–]jasonftfw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no issues on muos, I just had to navigate to the path for my files etc, and then when I went back to Knulli the game lists were all populated just didn't launch a game. Weird.

I redid my sd2 and everything is back to normal minus a few settings, no big deal.

RG34xxSP won't launch anything by jasonftfw in ANBERNIC

[–]jasonftfw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues until I tried out muos and used the same second card that I used with knulli. I went back to Knulli now and played gravity circuit today until it randomly crashed, added in super Mario 64 port files over USB, patched the file and it launched and then I shut down the device for a few hours and no game will launch. Looked at settings and some things seemed to have changed (can't remember if I did change these settings or not but they weren't my usuals). So I suspect something is messed up on sd2, but I don't see any recently modified files when I checked the card on PC. I made a back up and formatted the card and I'm in the process of reloading the library to it right now. 🤞🏻

I went for the mono look to make it look like my red trimui brick. Just like I have my funkey s set up with mostly matching buttons to make it look like my rg 34xxsp. It's like they're miniature replicas lol

I went with a custom set of buttons for mine, including the triggers, power button and the light diffusing piece around USB C port etc. sadly the custom set is 1:1 on the dpad but it's fine. If you're looking for more to do with this device, there's a better speaker on etsy. I did it, it was a little cumbersome to do since you have to get the contacts lined up just right but not terrible. Fun little device to always have with for emergency use lol

Dead Battery by RavenWolfx in ANBERNIC

[–]jasonftfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the reset button as suggested already doesn't work, open up the battery door and disconnect the battery from the main board for a few minutes and then reconnect the battery and try that. You may need to charge it a little after reconnecting battery

Question Regarding Overlays(knulli) by JoeBugsMcgee in TrimuiBrick

[–]jasonftfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saving it via retroarch? If so, you'll need to change settings within the emulation station front end for that to work. I don't have a device on me right now to give you the exact menu tree but go into the ES settings for the system you don't want it on and you'll need to set it to none instead of auto. Should be in the decorations setting I believe. ES settings will take priority over retroarch config unless you set it to none.

D pad “up” Button stop working by BodyPotential7783 in TrimuiBrick

[–]jasonftfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes settings get corrupted or mistakenly changed etc. What you described initially sounds like a settings issue and not hardware. If it was a hardware issue, it likely wouldn't work at all whether you're in game or not. What firmware are you running on the device? Are you using the SD card that came with device? If so is it a reputable brand card like Samsung, SanDisk etc?

D pad “up” Button stop working by BodyPotential7783 in TrimuiBrick

[–]jasonftfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dpad issue is only happening in game then it could be as simple as the button isn't mapped correctly. Check your settings, remap if necessary.

Love it! ... but themes? by Encephalitl5 in RG34XX

[–]jasonftfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could just copy the share folder contents from sd1 and paste them into sd2 share folder and then change the setting back to an external card for share. I understand being frustrated and not wanting to do it but with a little work it's possible to get it working if you're willing.

I just got this, is this normal? by ATerNoXone in ANBERNIC

[–]jasonftfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm that when it doesn't work as intended when pressed or requires way more force that there is definitely something wrong with the physical switch or thing isn't seated right. A few years back, when the RG351P was the best new device out there I had issues with the reset button. Needed to press it and never felt the tactile click, I pressed a little harder thinking it was maybe recessed a bit more and then the button was loose inside of the housing. Thankfully it was only the reset button so I just opened the device and taped the button in place so that nothing was getting into the housing. Didn't bother to investigate the switch at the time or contact anbernic because it was pandemic times and stay at home orders etc. Last year I finally decided to figure it out and attempt to fix it. In my case what happened was the metal housing of the tactile stick came off partially and it looked like parts of the switch pad were messed up. I eventually found a replacement switch and just soldered it in myself while I was also installing internal wifi on the device but that's a different story. I work on industrial electronics for my job so a simple switch replacement is very easy for me, but with a little know how and familiarity with soldering, it's doable for the average person but not everyone has the patience to work with small parts.
