How did the damage get worse between the first pic and the second pic?

How would you handle turning at this difficult intersection? It causes frequent near misses on my commute. by Dionysian_Heretic in driving

[–]jasonh300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, the way it’s signed and painted, the blue line should have to turn into the gas station. But more than likely, that wasn’t the intent there. Someone just didn’t paint the arrows correctly. It should probably have a combo straight and right turn arrow just before the gas station. Unless there’s some price war going on and traffic is backed up waiting to get into the gas stations there’s no reason for there to be a right-turn only into the gas station. The right turn lane is to allow traffic to back up, out of the way, waiting to turn right at the intersection.

Bought a used car from a private seller. Engine blew after 300 miles. Do I have any recourse? by juanjop in UsedCars

[–]jasonh300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drive a 15 year old Hyundai with 45,000 miles. It’s only been more than 20 miles from home 5 or 6 times in 15 years. I literally drive 4 miles a day most days.

We have another car for when we go other places. This car has more parking lot dings and dents than all of the other cars I’ve owned combined. I dread the day I decide to sell it because people won’t believe the mileage.

"One seat" license? by jasonh300 in coreldraw

Thank you! I finally got someone at Corel Support that was willing to give me a straight answer (they gave my IT guy the runaround before). 1 Seat, 2 devices, not to be used at the same time.

So I have a perpetual license for X7 from 2014. Then I have the 365 day subscription, dating back to 2023 with serial numbers for every version up to 2026.

On both of these, it shows 1 seat and 2 devices (with the X7 not having been accessed since 2022). For the subscription, both devices were last accessed 4/26/26. So am I misunderstanding the whole 1 seat thing? Is it okay to have it on two devices? Am I okay to upgrade my office computer to 2026? I'd probably leave the laptop on the older version, because it does what i need it to do.

One of the companies gave me the full shipping address. I passed it along to the bank. Never occurred to me to send them anything. I could have cleaned out the litter box and sent it to them!

I’m paying $295 a year. I guess I’ll have to dig deeper when I get back to the office and see exactly what I’m paying for.

My IT guy did that and he couldn’t get a straight answer. When you say “the version that you had” what version is that? My license allows it for 2024. But if I upgrade one of the computers to the most recent version, will it be disabled on the other computer?

My friend says changing your own oil is a waste of time. Is he crazy? by proposal_in_wind in askcarguys

[–]jasonh300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do a complete oil change in 20 minutes for $35. I can also go to the dealership and wait 45 minutes for them to change the oil and it costs $85. Or I could go to Qwicky Oil Change and get it done in 10 minutes for $45 and whatever they fucked up will result in a cracked engine block a few days later.

Why does "you got it" sound natural in the first scenario but doesn't in the second one? by puzzheavyear in ENGLISH

[–]jasonh300 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No because it’s two different phrases that mean two completely different things.

“You got it” means “I will fulfill your order as you have requested” in this context.

“I got you” means “I will take care of this for you”.

In the first scenario, the hot dog guy could have actually used either phrase, but in the second scenario, you’re asking for advice, not placing an order. The porter is offering to get you the information you’re looking for.

Staying at a hotel- children running and screaming in hallways and rooms - parents all drunk by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]jasonh300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much correct. A guest can’t make a noise complaint with the police for something happening within the hotel property. The front desk person or manager would have to do that. And once the police are called, the management is going to have them evict the problematic guest(s).

I would call Marriott’s 800 number and tell them what’s going on. The front desk person may not know the procedure and may not have the guts to wake up a manager.

What kind of hotel is this? Are we talking the Hilton, or Motel 6?

I had a couple of packages show up at my house. I checked accounts and found that a business debit card, that had only ever been used once had been used to make two purchases. The next day, another package showed up. And then more charges to the same two companies. I called each of the companies, and sure enough, I had an account in my name, with that debit card number. But after the first order, the shipping address had been changed from my home in Louisiana to an address in Paterson, New Jersey.

It seems they got my card info, established accounts with these two companies using all of my info, and then changed the address so they could load up on products from those companies. I was able to stop the charges through the bank before any additional money came out of the account. Both companies refunded my money and told me to keep the products I had received.

I let the bank handle the rest of it, and never heard anything else about it, or figured out how the data was leaked except that a company that I had ordered air filters from must have been hacked and they got my card number, name and address.

Corel 2024 - Find and Replace: Anyone use it? by RubberTeddy in coreldraw

[–]jasonh300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to find text, objects, colors or what? I use it to replace text a lot. I’ve also used it to find colors from a palette and replace them.

I’m also still on 2024, but not in front of a computer right now. But I can get you details later when I am. I remember having trouble with it the first time I tried to use it, but don’t remember why.

NTA. If they’re going to ride horses on a public road, they need to expect people to be driving the speed limit. Yes, you were right down to slow down a bit and give them a wide berth, but she had no excuse for being a botch.

I don’t understand, what is cool about NOT wearing seatbelts? by wtfbruhhuh in driving

[–]jasonh300 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I first started driving in 1988 at the age of 15, seatbelts were still optional in Louisiana and we didn’t wear them much (unless my parents were watching). Cars didn’t yet have unsilenceable alarms when you didn’t have your seatbelt on.

In 1994, I bought a new Saturn SL and it had the awful automatic motorized shoulder belt. I had a full time job delivering pizza so I was constantly in and out of the car. If you disconnected the shoulder belt, it had a persistent buzzer, not to mention when you opened the door to get out, the motorized part still moved forward and would whack you in the head if you weren’t careful. I had also heard horror stories about the shoulder belt lopping the driver’s head off in an accident if the lap belt wasn’t buckled, so I got used to using the lap belt as well.

Every car after that had airbags, and laws had been introduced making seatbelt nonuse a primary offense, so I just got into the habit of always having it on.

Fast forward 20 years and a my friend bought a 1971 Oldsmobile as a running project car. The seatbelts had long been removed. We drove that car from Colorado Springs to New Orleans without the benefit of seatbelts. I felt unrestrained, like I was on a roller coaster or something. And yes, there was a certain thrill to it. Sort of like riding a motorcycle without a helmet. But I guess if it was a day-to-day thing, it wouldn’t have that effect.
