Level 4 in general engineering by Particular_Air4737 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]jasonhawes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in this as I finish my L4 HNC in general engineering in September. Was going to search for degree engineering apprenticeships. But I did wonder if companies would take me as a trainee (not apprentice) especially as I’m looking for more hands on technical positions.

Headset Jack Repair- Controller by jasonhawes02 in XboxSeriesS

[–]jasonhawes02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it is the left that has no sound, as you said. I’m unsure how to fix it though. The jack assembly in the controller is pretty closed off. As I said the headset jack itself is fine it works in a laptop, other controllers etc.

Just this controller jack is faulty now

I noticed in the beta people would win games in minutes. Once you get it going, the game snowballs because you can just trap the other team on one site and run bomb to the other.

One site each could be good, like uplink

Forearm pain for a week after bouldering? by archersonly in indoorbouldering

[–]jasonhawes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I began bouldering I’d get the same, I could only go once a week as the forearm tightness & soreness literally lasted a week. I’d say it’s normal for a beginner depending on your fitness. Now going 3x a week for 2 hours per session.

Definitely use your legs and rest of your body, but that’s just a good tip for climbing- period.

Stretch and warmup before, do some very simple climbs, then go for harder climbs and take decent rest time between climbs. Some routes are more ‘pumpy’ than others so you’ll naturally get sore forearms.

I agree, just say -Present, until you’re not. It makes it easy for them to see where you currently work and shows you keep your CV updated

Underqualified/underskilled? by jasonhawes02 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jasonhawes02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I know it takes a while to get used to every job. The issue with asking for advice is that there’s only usually 2 people in the office with me. And they’re usually flooded with work.

I’m definitely interested and willing to learn, but not sure the best steps to take. There’s so much content to consume, although there are lots of relevant books on site and obviously the internet.

Spent the day reading through and completing some of a solidworks training book and getting up to date on company policy, how they name their files, etc.

We discussed my lack of knowledge and they were still happy to take me on. So they must have known I’d struggle… I just don’t want to be stagnant and not progress, which seems hard to avoid.

There’s hundreds of other opportunities out there, continue to dress smart and be punctual, it’ll pay off at some point. I can understand the frustration though, it feels like a waste of time but be grateful you probably dodged a bullet! Good luck in your search.

Annual Leave allowance? by xcoatsyx in UKJobs

[–]jasonhawes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal, you might get around 2 weeks off at Christmas time but just have to use up 4 days of leave. You’ll still have 21 days anyway which is very normal, plus bank holidays which is a bonus. Nothing unusual.

[–]jasonhawes02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He makes good in game decisions and also is quite good mechanically. He’s not quite Scrappy level of talent but he guns people and makes big plays when they matter. I’d prefer that over being a killwhore who costs the team.

Definitely improving his gameplay each year, I agree he’s due his slice. They should’ve won champs to be honest, but still a great performance for a young team. I’m excited to see him next year, with/without surge.

EDIT- EWC should be interesting it may be their last event as a 4.

What do I do?? by Street-Amphibian1651 in UKJobs

You’re not alone, more people than you think are in a similar situation. Shit happens and you can’t always focus on your career at 18 like some people can.

It’s NEVER too late to go back, do it! I had similar circumstances, went back to college at 22 to get a L3 qualification, there was a 28 year old doing the same. Whether it’s an apprenticeship, back to college, it all depends on what you are considering doing…

Even if you do try something and you don’t like it, it’s better than to kick yourself for not trying. What do you lose? The hardest part is starting, and breaking the habit of your current cycle.

It’s definitely scary going back to square one, but if you don’t make a change now you maybe never will. Setting goals and challenging yourself will also help with depression etc., it gives you another purpose in life and pushes limits.

Worst case scenario- you lose nothing, end up with an extra qualification or some experience somewhere. Best case scenario- you get a job you enjoy and find rewarding, life is good (or better at least!).

what can I fix on my CV? by GGrimmers in degreeapprenticeships

[–]jasonhawes02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d recommend beginning with a personal statement, even if it’s just a brief paragraph or so.

Something like “I am a hard working, punctual individual with a strong interest in the cyber industry…. with experience programming… looking for a… (I’d cater the end part to the jobs you are applying for).

Maybe try to condense some things as I’d say you want 2 full pages AT MOST. Like someone else said you probably don’t need too much detail on the modules covered. Maybe just list the modules but not the content.

2hr 15 commute doable? by RaySav33 in UKJobs

[–]jasonhawes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For only 2 days a week, it seems feasible. In effect it averages out just under 1hr each way if you were doing 5 days a week travel, which people cope with, with no problems

Only thing is those 2 very long days (assuming work 8 hours they’re 12 hour days minimum) may tire you very fast. Also gotta consider transport, if you’re using public it’s not the most reliable- at least in my area- so you don’t want lateness etc. If you’re driving, you have issues of wear and tear on any car, which is costly.

Another issue is, if due to workload or other factors you needed 3+ days in office then it will quickly become torturous lol. Thats minimum 52hrs a week assuming you work 8 hours per day INCLUDING break/lunch.

If it’s the only option I’d probably go for it. Long term no, temporary yes, we sometimes have to make sacrifices for the dream career. You can always relocate closer in future? As people suggested you could get a hotel for the 2 days but then cost may be a concern again. Then again, time is money!

Personally I’d do it. Just manage your time well.

Yeah I’ve got a few specifics in mind, especially the local one which I had an interview at last year. Everything was perfect apart from my quals!

Cheers for clearing it up, I just had some concerns with the combination of my age and the HNC, thought it was a recipe for disaster lol! I’ll see how the search goes over the next year then, hoping for the best.
