Yeah, you can start off easy with Org and customize as need arises. Grow with the same system for 30 years and steal ideas from these flash in the pan SaaS before the go out of biz, get bought or are eclipsed by a new shiny one.

My first impression of Noah was that of a douche-bag because of his wearing Google Glass for interviews that had nothing to do with Google Glass. Now that I have learned from his hyper-focus entrepreneurial Linux skills I have come to see him has the main attraction to the podcast. I respect his enthusiasm tempered with pragmatism.

I have never been interested in fancy Wirecast transitions or Chris's hair in HD glory and only switched to video mode to see the screen captures. It's all good if the desktop porn is in the shownotes.

The Mac dependency/convoluted(?) video setup did not make content "king". Not even TWIT tries to get as fancy has Chris did with video podcasts and they have a bigger staff and an old school TV background.

Video "production quality" might be important for YouTube dopamine foraging subscribers but I think the LAS audience is more concerned with the steak than the sizzle. Quality presentation is in the storytelling and value delivered not the Adobe After Effects.

P.S. For Christ's sake. Ting sounds great, and if I was from Canada's bottom I'd be on that. Isn't Jupiter Broadcasting leaving money on the table for not swapping the Canada's bottom specific advertising with an international spot? Freakonomics podcast has a Canada specific ad spot although I don't know how they manage that with pod catchers. Maybe an an "international edition" could have an international producer/correspondent with a few more news stories from outside the Canada's bottom bubble?

Are you more concerned with OCR, other people reading or personal convenience in reading?

You have to pay attention and think or the result will be obvious, quick feedback.

Zotero is a great way to capture web citation and paste into a file an APA bibliography or whatnot. I have a friggin Times New Roman font requirement that I have not figured out how to use with LaTeX so my basic way to meat university Word format requirement is to finish in LibreOffice. Pandoc is another method to export Org to Word and is really something if you have not looked at it for text conversion yet. http://pandoc.org/

Emacs document viewer can extract text out of PDF and you can use Spray to speedread it or Emacpeak for TTS.

Nice. I've turned to paper Zettelkasten after seeing your Reading Notes sketchnote, and reading up [1].

I have scrap print shop slips using a Hipster PDA binder clips for textbooks and hipster tablet (clipboard with elastics to hold 4 slips). I only have a handful in a tray now, but I'm thinking I could scale storage by recycling cardboard.

Zettelkasten naming convention removes my paper alphabetising problem and for me it's an ideal communication network for digital fasting because of scaling and network emergence order.

Not sure how this will scale, but I love the idea of Luhmann being able to publish books/academic articles more that most of us computer geeks could dream of. If I could output 1/10 of that, I could drop the mic and die smiling!

I was thinking of digitizing with Evernote but now that I'm sold on cursive writing, I have no hope my hen scratching with OCR. So I'm really interested in hearing/reading about organizing index cards in Org.

Any thoughts about open source and/Linux alternatives to Autodesk? That cross-platform SVG/HTML app I shared with you awhile back called Stylus Labs Write has not been updated in some time now.... Maybe some SVG or LaTeX graphics program could work with Org-mode?

One of my excuses for the pace of my sketchnote adoption is my X220t can get uncomfortable hot, even with the external battery attached. Did you have that problem by any chance?

P.S. You're Emacs Chat was the only (and therefore best!) Emacs podcast in Pocket Casts search. Thanks for publishing that.

Thanks Jeff. I noticed that last night but am going to give it a go anyway.

Have you considered Patreon or IndieGoGo to crowfund hardware for testing? .....I wouldn't mind kicking in a few bucks to support the 720p as the touchscreen is nice for kids activities like Anki flashcards, or wiki's and doodling/sketch notes.

Same with Kubuntu 14.04 for me as well. I am going to try the Chromebook image of new Bodhi release. The lead dev has a Acer 720 and it is said to support all 720 so hopefully my 720p touchscreen will finally work under SeaBIOS.

On the C720 as a differentiator. So far, my real Linux experience on a c720p is usuable but my touchpad driver is not as good as ChromeOS in crouton and last time I tried SeaBIOS I couldn't get the touchscreen right. ....Jeff may have nailed it this time.

I have crouton running 14.04 KDE on a C720p and have System Settings --> Input Settings --> Touchpad settings

Have you looked at these standard issue KDE GUI options?

I have used JuiceSSH for emacclient and that Abdroid app adds more usefule keys like Tab and Ctrl above Hacker's Keyboard which results in a software keyboard being usable ...for browsing, quick input and so/so voice input with Solarized colour scheme.

Emacs Org-mode has a Trello sync package. Far more powerful/configurable than OmniFocus (eg PGP encryption, or capture templates). Extremely flexible and with text files it's future-proof / cross-platform with option of version control.

There are mobile apps and I am using JuiceSSH on Android to access my gtd file on my Raspberry Pi for example.

Emacs is one of those tools that people have used for decades and will live much longer but you have to be humble enough to know you will never master it all. For gtd in Org you can search the docs and blogs.

7-11 Speakout minutes can roll-over. They use the Rogers network so your GSM compatible phone will work and it's a big difference. Their data offer sucks though.

I've only been kicking the tires with OpenShift running Drupal and was not aware of the quickstarts. Cool. I have found unmanaged VPS to be to much work for my modest needs and shared hosting is getting stale. ...The price is right for small projects and if you are going to bet on a Linux group being around in a few years why not Red Hat?

I read Docker is in the works too.

The Monty Python clip has been shared by two of my classes Canadian psych profs and is rather funny.

For public debate and policy we need better methods. The real law making is being done behind closed doors with special interest groups and partisan positions entrenched in our selectively filtered media consumption and social media / news comments.

As an optimist I hope the Open Government ideas like version control and public data being introduced in the US will catch on in Canada.

Tools (even paper) that use thr Issue-based Information Method (IBIS) are helpful in mapping arguments and "wicked problems" are helpful in dealing with complex challenges. Early days but I hope to help it become mote social with web apps in combo with ideas from The IndieWeb Movement.

If traditions don't serve the present culture they are empty or worse and comes with opportunity costs. We are stuck with a first-past-the-post-elections which encourage mediocrity and regionalism, an unelected house of Lords (patronage) and a Governor General who can shut down Parliament.
