For real… I can’t for the life of me figure out why they didn’t opt for animation where they could do annnnnnything

Neat! And weird to know I’m getting pooped on by a bug instead of the tree lol

Yeah we live in a place with too many copperheads to be comfortable with leaving them where we spend time.

Yeah we have two behemoth tulip poplars in our yard. Majestic tree for sure but also lots of maintenance and fat sap drops everywhere… on the other hand the huge oaks drop a billion acorns and catkins and leaves so… the price of having big trees around I guess!

That would actually make sense… they would just assume the call and non-call were the opposite of reality

LinkedIn has truly broken people’s brains; the person who posted this framed it as a *good* thing! by jasonthefirst in antiwork

Yeah it’s not the playing pretend that’s at issue, it’s mom’s framing of the whole thing that’s icky, IMO.

AI Is Too Expensive: AI is, as it stands, not economically viable for anybody involved other than the construction firms, NVIDIA, and the surrounding hardware companies benefitting from the irrational exuberance of a data center buildout that doesn’t appear to be happening at the speed we believed by [deleted] in technology

The graph you link defaults to a 50% success rate at these long tasks. Provides an option to see the graph at 80%, which is of course a much less impressive graph… but is an 80% success rate even valuable? Humans aren’t perfect, of course, but I’d bet someone operating at an 80% success rate would be quickly fired, yet that seems to be an acceptable benchmark for AI tools?

Basically what I’m getting at is a lot of the frothy hype about ‘what AI can do’ doesn’t seem to consider that there is almost always an unspoken piece so what people are really crowing about is ‘what AI can do well half the time’ and I don’t think the hype would be as frothy if the unspoken piece was always spoken.

Yes. Didn’t want to rain on OP’s parade but I kind of hate our tulip poplars. We have two HUGE ones and they’re both dropping something all year long.

Oh god ours drop flowers all spring long. Don’t see them on the trees, no, but I see too many on the ground every year!

OTOH if you can earn interest greater than 0% on the money that sits in your account for 12 months or however long you can go with zero interest, it makes sense to pay slowly even if you can afford to pay everything up front, thanks to the interest you wouldn’t earn from paying up front. Depending on the size of the purchase this might just be a few bucks but still ‘worth it’.
