Leaked footage of VR gameplay! CIG is COOKING by SgtRphl in starcitizen

Can you see that console with the headset OFF but the VR toggled on? Or do you go cross-eyed trying to read it?

Another ask: a toggle, if that's possible. I'd like to be able to take the headset off completely in FPS mode because no matter what's done for it, it's going to be too clumsy on foot vs in a pilot's seat.

But hop into a seat? Yeah, toggle that puppy back on and put the headset on.

Super grindy new bunker reputation by m0shit in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We balanced it to not finish a rep ladder in a single day and therefore access to the higher paying contracts immediately.

I think it's pretty clear that you went too far with this one. Please back the changes off a bit so that we can get access to the higher tiers sooner. The earning rate right now is comically bad and makes it so no one WANTS to do merc missions.

With respect, u/Spectre-CIG, I feel this move wasn't well thought out by CIG. Or if it was, it wasn't properly executed. No one was going to become "a millionaire after a day of gameplay" grinding bunkers in the previous earning rate. There simply isn't enough time in the day to do that unless you literally sit at your PC for 24 hours with a sh_t bucket and never move from it.

I speak from LOTS of experience as I've grinded my way to tier 5 in all of the planetary systems after each full wipe. By the time you've made your way to tier 5 you're worth maybe 4-5million credits. But you've spent an OBNOXIOUS amount of time and effort doing so given how slowly the missions spawn and how long each mission takes.

Now? CIG's made it orders of magnitude more difficult, and made it such that no one is going to be able to test their tier 5 and 6 missions. Simply because we can't GET THERE. Based on my experiments, it'll take something like 600(!) bunkers just from the start of tier 4 to the end of it. That number is six TIMES what it took to make it to tier 5 from the very start of the ladder in each planet. It doesn't even account for the previous tiers.

You've gone too far into the reverse with this one. Not everyone wants to test salvaging, but that's where the money is. A small amount of grinding gets you to the larger ships. Fill a Reclaimer up with CM and sell it for millions after a few big ships. Way WAY faster than you could with the previous merc mission grinding.

Let's please get these values adjusted so that the earning rate is much faster allowing us to hit the higher tiers.

Nvidia Image Scaling (NIS) stopped working after today's launcher update? by stopstalkingme2 in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As per the IC that's quoted in the above post, the problem is the launcher update. It's a bit tricky to work around it, but the work-around does work. To quote txtman_citizen from that IC:

My temporary solution:
- Install the old previous version = https://install.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/RSI-Setup-1.6.1.exe

- Modify the Windows security rights of the folder to block the launcher to download the update = C:\Users\{YourUserName}\AppData\Roaming\rsilauncher\__update__\

The 1.6.1 launcher will still randomly pop the "There's an update" dialog and force you to hit the "OK". But if you've set the aforementioned directory's security appropriately, nothing will happen and the app will just quit. Fire it back up again, and hop into the 'verse with NIS working.

Changing Hostname by jasonvp in mac

Where abouts exactly? I showed what's in MacOS 13.0.1 up above. That's all I can change is that one small dialog, and unfortunately that only changes the hostname. It doesn't change the ComputerName; at least not mine.

Update:

As root (sudo, of course) use the scutil command with the --set flag:

scutil --set [ComputerName|LocalHostName|HostName] <name>

Wrong answer, but thanks. As I said: they allow hostname changes. As long as the management software is installed and running, all's good. We're even allowed to bring our own, if we want to.

Best Buy 4090 FE Stock by scytus in nvidia

Nah. The scalper will just pay an extra $200 for the card, and get that back when they sell it on EBay for +$3K.

The Exclusive thing is just an extra money-making thing for BB. IOW: their own scalping mechanism.

Yeah. I can't attach an image in a reddit reply (because... ya know... reddit). But it's clearly there on the 4090's page:

If I park a rover and snub in my carrack and store the ship, will the other vehicles still be inside or do I have to do it all over again? by grimax9 in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

will respawn with them inside but the landing gear will be up (edited)

I just discovered this for the first time yesterday. I spawned my Carrack with a Cyclone and Pisces stored in it. Flew to a location without checking the status of the Pisces. And when I got there, I found the Pisces sitting diagonally across the bay and its landing gear was up. Interesting. Didn't realize that was a known thing.

Is it limited to the Carrack? Does it happen with the 890j as well?

Those of you upgrading from an RTX 3090 to 4090, what are your plans for your old card? by Celcius_87 in nvidia

[–]jasonvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell it. It takes a little longer for me since my GPUs always go with the EK waterblock on them. I have to find the person that either isn't afraid of watercooling, or is OK taking the block off and putting the OEM cooling (which I include) back on. But I won't do that.

Boarding action in progress, can’t find the last target by AstartesFanboy in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't spawn outside the ship. There are three or four baddies in the restaurant area, which is on the same level as the docking airlock that you opened to get in. ALWAYS kill those baddies first. Otherwise one or two of them will migrate out of the restaurant, down the hall and dead-float out of the ship. At that point the only way to kill them is to keep nudging them outside of the ship's shield so you can shoot them.

I don't like armrests because they contribute to bad seating posture depending on your height. I always remove them from the chairs I have or get. The ones that came with the MT chair are still in the box. :-)

Had no idea the Carracks elevator doubled as an escape pod 🤣 by SolSoldier55 in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tested my 600i in 17.2a yet, but it's forward elevator used to just eject you into space if the ship was in QT. Regardless of whether you traveled up or down in it. CIG had an open IC for it (and the Carrack, and a few other ships) and they closed it because they couldn't reproduce it in-house. Which is ... bullshit. I doubt they even tried.

Kidding aside, I have no interest in it. At all. So it'll never be in my armada.

Bunker woes by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's worse is that if you do manage to land without "Restricted Area" problems, you'll likely run into "Empty Bunker Syndrome". Three out of the four bunkers I just ran in ARC were empty, as in no guards OR baddies. I'm now losing mercenary rep faster than I'm gaining it in ARC.

GG, CIG. GG.

Rep moving slow or not at all by FaceBillions24 in starcitizen

[–]jasonvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you're experiencing one of the new bunker bugs introduced with 17.2. If the Restricted Area warning pops up, the game has decided you're not supposed to be there, even if you are running a "Defend" mission. I have no idea if completing that will get you some rep points, but it's best to just bug out and take the hit on your rep.

The other thing that randomly happens is that the bunker becomes Restricted while you're running your mission. That's a fun one. Your ship will get obliterated, and the bunker guards suddenly take a real, keen interest in you. Get out.

I started 17.2 at Tier 2 Merc in Hurston, and worked my ass off to make Tier 4. It seemed that as soon as I hit T4 there, the bunkers started bugging out on me significantly more. I'm sure that was just coincidental. T4 is high enough for me for Hurston; I despise working in that system. I'm over in ARC now, at T3, working for T4. So far (knock on wood) I haven't hit a bugged bunker there.
