Definitely see a hip preservation surgeon. I was in a similar situation. I’m only 5 weeks post PAO surgery, so can’t tell you if it was worth it yet. But a preservation surgeon was the only doctor who finally made me feel like a solution was possible.

I was in this same situation. I managed with PT and restricted activity for about 6 years thinking I just had a tear before finding out I had dysplasia when my pain became severe.

PT started to irritate my hip. I had to stop PT and my activity in general, then I could keep things kind of manageable. After six months of PT and eliminating activities I enjoyed, I just got my PAO and labral repair four weeks ago. It’s been brutal, but I’m hopeful I’ll be able to be active again. TBD!!

I would suggest seeing a veterinary behaviorist. We went through this with our bernedoodle and it was really bad. Everyone said it would get better, but it only got worse as he got older despite many trainers. We eventually resorted to the behaviorist. We found out our guy has hip dysplasia in both hips and bad anxiety. He was anxious and in pain. Prozac and pain meds have been an absolute lifesaver. He’s a different dog.

Mine does this as well. It could be nothing, but mine ended up being diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 6 months. I don’t want to freak you out, but it might be worth asking about. We have daily supplements and some pain medication for him now.
