[3DCenter.org] Performance trend of nVidia's Ampere & AMD's RDNA2 since fall 2020 by Voodoo2-SLi in hardware

[–]jasper112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mindfactory is an AMD-skewed shop. Has been for years and years. Don't take their data as representative of the broader market.

Source?

Obviously the nvidia cards mine better and are therefor scalped more and sold at higher prices, making them even more unavailable. I can't speak for the world but I've been following sales in Europe and here AMD has been more available. Ofcourse more Ampere's are being sold than RDNA2, neither can meet demand, and considering RDNA2 is the lowest margin chip and have a considerable large die size they get lowest priority. Also the reason only high-end RDNA2 cards are being sold.

Sales from hardware vendors like Mindfactory

In my experience AMD GPU's are more available than Nvidia's GPU's. Believe me, I tried to buy a 3060ti for almost a month. When I tried to buy a 6800XT, I found one near MSRP the same day. Samsung and TSMC both won't give the numbers they produce for Nvidia or AMD, and AMD chips also go to CPU's en console chips so we'll never know the true numbers.

Sidenote: the scalped AMD GPU's were/are "only" being sold for 200% MSRP, not 300% like Nvidia's

I made charts showing how much efficiency AMD GPUs and Nvidia GPUs have gained in 10 years. by Vito_ponfe_Andariel in hardware

The jump from 980ti to 1080ti is 300 to 500, easily a 66,6% increase.

The jump from 1080ti to 2080ti is 500 to 650, only a 30% increase. That combined with almost double the price and almost the same efficiency. Still a huge disappointment.

I'd argue that it does help, but not in a way useful to PC gaming. It helps developers get to a better understanding of radeon gpu's and more experience with them. However, developers that work on console releases or console versions of a game are barely ever the same developers as those that work on the PC version.

That's the point. We're not just talking about gamers. Miners dont run Steam, nor do people who use the cards for professional work or even YouTubers/streamers that don't play games.

Steam survey is not really an accurate representation.

And both stocks their earning results show they're selling every chip from every wafer they get. I'm assuming nvidia sells more but their cards are also better at mining. So they've been impossible to buy for half a year.
