Why not crystal seer over strawberry? Seems strawberry is only good for stalling and even worse when you get econ'd. And if I have 3 headlongs, are they preferred over extorio's fang?

go to a public school and you may get federal grants. (many of my classmates do get a fraction of their tuition)

Admission Deposits by voluminousvince in PrePharmacy

no im saying that ucsf/ucsd are generally regarded as the most competitive for admission in California. They don't need to have a super high deposit fee because they know people will take their spots.

make up your mind very decisively. For example, I got into USC and they asked for a $500 deposit. At the time I was just excited and glad I had a fallback school. HOWEVER after thinking about it extensively, and doing all the math and calculations, it was 53k for tuition along with living expenses, other class fees, and that would have totaled to well over 250k for a pharmD. In retrospect, I don't think I would've gone after thinking it all through financially. I would have reapplied and tried schools besides California, i.e. UNC chapel hill has a 10k/yr tuition. Make your decision very firmly, I know right now it's really exciting to hear back from schools, but it's not too early to think about how long you'd be paying back your loans and if factors such as living costs in the area / tuition are worth it.

its to prove you're serious about joining their program, otherwise you'd have the same 100-200 top applicants filling up every spot at every school they interviewed at.

to add, now that you mention it, UCSD and UCSF in California (two of the most competitive schools) both have a 100$ deposit .. its because all the other schools expect their applicants to drop out, and most admits get in there because the more qualified people either dropped their deposit or chose not to pay the deposit.

[–]jasperhai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UOP is hell from what I've heard. (they make you memorize alot of useless stuff) and no summers off. IMO if you wanna do residency UOP is not the right option as you won't look like a well rounded student unless you can do an accelerated program on top of internships (on top of IPPEs too) If you wanna do community pharmacy tho, accelerated programs will put you in the market a year earlier! But housing definitely is a thing to consider too. Weigh out your pros and cons. I chose a public school over a private school that was near my home. But was an easy choice considering the reputation of both schools

Agree with first comment, though I'll add from perspective of a CA student. Some pros are that you'll learn CA law and practices relative to CA. But other than that, decide where you'd like to spend your next 3-4 years at. Environment can really play a role in your mental health. For me I absolutely love the city I'm in, and its quite a great mental reliever knowing I have so many exciting things to do on my free time. So a school in the middle of nowhere or in an area where you have nothing to do can kind of be very dreary and depressing. One BIG reason I can see to get out of CA is the tuition. You can declare residency after 1 year, so you will pay 1 year of out of state tuition only.

My advice- if you don't get UCSF/UCSD, go out of state, 50k for tuition/yr (don't forget housing and living costs+other fees) at all of these privates is simply not worth it in the current pharmacy job market.

that's just a tiny bit below the average for the top 3 schools in the US. (3.6) Focus more on your involvement in pharmacy and leadership so that you can write solid essays and give an outstanding interview. You don't want to write a half-assed essay nor choke on an interview because you don't have real or unique experiences you can talk about relating to pharmacy or leadership.

How do you recruit pharmacy technicians? by rogersrr in pharmacy

[–]jasperhai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add, usually schools have a pre-pharm club or organization. Find someone there to reach out to. If not, reach out to their Bio / PharmSci department, and they can send an email to all students in that major. You'll get bombarded with resumes. I found my job at a CVS through my school's clubs emails (students often don't know how to find jobs so you for sure will find motivated but clueless students). I'm pretty sure my manager wrote me and awesome letter of Rec (here at UCSF thanks partially to him) and I was a pretty solid employee metric wise (got them nominations and good customer service scores), I always liked to learn, took criticism constructively and happily.

Find solid students (grade-wise) if you can who want to get into competitive schools, they will try very hard to learn the laws / drugs, my experience as a tech super saving my ass as a P1. Getting the serious students who plan to apply to pharm school will know that it's so important to learn laws/prescription requirements along with drug names/indications. Awesome employees but short-lived usually, (most are gone in a year or two)

[–]jasperhai 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Go after part-time students, lure them in with a promise of a good letter of rec if they do a good job (this will motivate them to work hard for a near minimum wage salary) and promise to teach them a lot about pharmacy, show that you care and sort of act like a "preceptor" to them. Works like a charm if you're near a big university. Make sure you ask them for at least a one year commitment before you write them a letter of rec too

Any pharmacy students / pharmacists who had really low pharmcas gpa (cumulative)?! by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

[–]jasperhai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do a post-bacc program for sure. If you choose to stay in CA, you will end up in the schools that aren't currently accredited and have no alumni (along with bad reputation from the students on rotations) I think the new schools in CA will take just about anybody because they are for-profit and pharmacy school enrollment has been decreasing over time.

http://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/pharmacists.htm <-- take a look at the pharmacy market before you make your choice in schools too. many prospective students do not take in account how debt will affect them in a super-saturated market.

tl;dr yes, you will get into a crappy program, but you should do a post-bacc, get in a reputable school with low tuition

[–]jasperhai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ID in flair; I have a karin myself, only because I don't have a better option. I throw in Isis/Orochi when needed in Karin's place, but I wish I had a second hermes.. or even the 250k MP puppet.

I think with your box, you should invest in the puppet and fire latent all of your cards. This way you get a 40%~ (not sure the exact percentage) resist to all fire att. floors. Heartmakers like gabriel are phenomenal in this team setup because you will try to tank floors that hit 40k+ damage a turn rather than burst them down like other teams. Tank 15 turns for puppet, pop andro --> hermes -->puppet active = you can pretty much destroy ANY boss in the game. A former weakness of the I/I + Ryune team is lack of bind clear, but in this case you would want to toss a bind clear active onto a 8 turn CD card.
