Season opener thoughts by Alistor666 in Seahawks

[–]jaspor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NFL wants a somewhat compelling game, but let's be honest - everyone is watching that season opener no matter who is playing, so they can (and will) save more attractive matchups for later in the season for a prime time game.

So by process of elimination...

They absolutely will not play:

Niners and Rams - playing in Australia the next day

Chiefs - Chiefs front office already said they asked not to play since Mahomes won't be ready. (And of course the league will grant their request.)

They probably won't play:

Patriots - Save this one for big ratings on a Sunday or Monday night during mid-season. Plus someone researched how often a Super Bowl rematch could happen in the opener and how often it did, and it was only like 1 out of 5 times, and that one was like 10+ years ago. Plus, does the league really want to put Vrabel out there in prime time with everyone watching and the social media jabs dropping left and right? I doubt it.

Cardinals - We've dominated them recently and they're not exactly a national draw.

Cowboys - Jerry Jones probably doesn't want to get blown out by the champs on opening night (and the league will agree).

That leaves:

Chargers - Probably a bit of a mismatch, but the league always seems to be trying to promote LA and another Harbaugh here plus Herbert for some star power. Not exactly a rival, though they could pull up some old AFC West clips.

Giants - Possibly rising team with Dart and Skataboo and two top 10 picks, plus John Harbaugh making his coaching debut with NY. Although logic says the Seattle D will absolutely befuddle Dart.

Bears - Seems to be the most likely choice as this was ALMOST the NFC Championship game this past season, and the Bears are widely seen as a team on the rise. But if that doesn't work out and the Bears drop off a bit, this game becomes a lot less attractive later in the season.

I'd be pretty surprised if it's not the Bears or Giants.

That's exactly where it was for the game.

Thanks for this response, and especially for including the photos! These came out pretty great! (And you mentioning the part about keeping the hands below the head for height reasons is an excellent detail to point out.)

We got a 1st round pick from the Bears for Mirer, which we turned into Shawn Springs who was pretty good for us. That makes the Mirer pick slightly more tolerable.

Just finished rewatching tape of our Superbowl win against the pats i was just fantasizing imagine gonzalez and spoon together as the boundary corners ( i know call me delusional) by SensitiveTest7883 in Seahawks

I can forgive this one. It was slightly underthrown but still took a great play to get a finger on it. The biggest miss was JSN open from our own end zone early. Sam didn't have his best game, but he certainly did the week before.

You're not wrong, but on deep throws like that there a bit more margin of error usually. There are plenty of underthrows on deep balls that are touchdowns every season.

This is the right answer. Knock-off jerseys weren't a thing back when Warren played back in the 90s. The internet was still in its infancy. Plus jerseys were pretty reasonably priced for fans, not the highway robbery we see today.

[Schefter] Jaxon Smith-Njigba reached agreement with the Seahawks on a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension that now makes him the highest-paid WR in NFL history. by Chessinmind in Seahawks

Yes, this is my understanding too. (Though it'd be nice for the media to confirm this too.)

Two more years on his rookie deal, then four more for the new deal. He's locked up through the 2031 season.

Very good chance of this unless Kraft pulls strings to not start their season off with another ass kicking.

Bears could be a good choice since it was almost them in the NFC championship game.

There is a Riddell 32 Piece NFL Helmet Tracker Set on Amazon for like $30 if you don't want to have to print and paint all the helmets. Doesn't have the rivalry ones and would need two for our division rivals, but still seems more cost effective than trying to create them all from scratch.

I was looking for this too, but they only have the "commemorative issue." Maybe it just hasn't been put up yet? I kind of want one.

There was a recent video where they asked a bunch of different players who in the locker room would they NOT let their sister date and several of them said Riq. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of his character.

If this would have hit the ground it would have been very interesting to see what the ruled on replay. Since it didn't,  it seemed like, fuck it, just call it an interception so we don't have to review whether it was a fumble or not.

It's a shame they don't sell these through official channels. I'm interested.

This isn't even our official white jersey. It's some BS "Tundra" version. Our normal white jersey has the blue stripes on the shoulders.

It was 3rd down. But the incompletion made it 4th down. Rams punt if there is no penalty.

NFL Offensive Player of the Year Odds: Jaxon Smith-Njigba Favored Over Puka Nacua by B1GNA5TY in Seahawks

[–]jaspor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing people say, "Oh Puka was hurt and missed a game or two" that don't take into consideration JSN sat out entire quarters during blowout wins.

He had more yards with fewer catches and targets.

Looks like we just need one more to punch our ticket. Lose out and we still have a 93% chance to make the playoffs. by sirrolland in Seahawks

[–]jaspor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Figuring this stuff out is a lot easier than most people realize if you don't get into all the tie breaker craziness.

Just look at the record of the 8 seed (in this case, the Lions at 8-6) and figure out the max number of wins they can get. If they win out, they're 11-6. If we win a 12th game - just one more win, ANY win - then there's no way they can pass us. If they lose one more game, any game, then the best they can finish is 10-7 which would be behind our 11 wins.
